What the experts say:

“There’s something about a rooftop that feels innately special. Vancouverites love to be outside, and they’ll take any excuse they can get—including a rooftop patio. And thankfully, more and more of them are starting to pop up around the city and its surrounding areas.“ — Sara Harowitz is a journalist and consultant based in Vancouver. Northwest
Coal Harbour

There’s a strong case that LIFT holds the finest rooftop real estate in the entire city. Sitting right on the Coal Harbour seawall, it’s Vancouver’s only oceanfront rooftop deck — a two-level terrace where the views sweep across the harbour to Stanley Park, the North Shore mountains, and beyond. This isn’t the kind of place you stumble upon; people plan evenings around it. The menu is a polished showcase of Pacific Northwest cooking — regionally sourced seafood, fresh oysters, prime steaks and a raw bar — complemented by an award-winning wine list spotlighting BC and Pacific Northwest producers. Indoors, floor-to-ceiling windows vanish in summer to merge the room with the water, and the honey onyx bar glows warm against the coastal light. Outdoor fireplaces keep the terrace comfortable well into the evening. And if you’re planning to bring your four-legged companion along, LIFT welcomes dogs on the patio — the kind of thoughtful touch that turns a great dinner into a truly local experience.

Amazing as always. The food was particularly superb (brunch) this visit. And Steph and Tasha are always a charm to deal with. Nothing but happy and delicious vibes! 🥰

Downtown

Reimagined in 2025 by acclaimed local design firm Ste Marie Studio, Reflections at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia is the Downtown rooftop that set a new benchmark for what a Vancouver terrace can be. The newly designed secret garden features a custom retractable glass roof — open to the sky in summer, cosy and enclosed in cooler months — lush Pacific Northwest plantings, cascading preserved florals above the bar, and a colour palette of natural travertine, honey-stained wood, and bronze glass. The food and cocktail programme matches the setting’s ambition: an all-day menu celebrating local seafood and the Pacific Northwest terroir, with a brunch offering that includes Dungeness crab benedict and truffle scrambled eggs, alongside a signature cocktail programme inspired by the city’s coastal landscape. A curated entertainment calendar brings local talent to the terrace nightly. For a golden hour escape Monday through Friday, the terrace serves cocktails and bites in one of the most beautiful rooms in the city — rain or shine.

Burnaby

Three levels, 17,000 square feet, and a heated rooftop patio with a retractable roof — Tap & Barrel’s Brentwood outpost at The Amazing Brentwood is the kind of destination that Burnaby’s dining scene genuinely needed. The ground floor lounge buzzes with a central bar, big screens, and a state-of-the-art sound system; the second-floor dining room is more relaxed and booth-lined; and the third-floor rooftop terrace looks out over the Brentwood Plaza and the Burnaby skyline with the mountains forming the backdrop. What makes it work is the retractable roof — patio season here isn’t at the mercy of the weather. The menu runs the full Tap & Barrel comfort-food playbook: New England-style, crispy Humboldt squid, shareable starters, pasta, and crowd-favourite mains, with a Brentwood-exclusive beverage programme built around local craft beer, international wines, and handcrafted cocktails. Daily happy hour and weekend brunch round it out. Book the rooftop and settle in.

Burnaby

JOEY Burnaby earns its reputation as a neighbourhood staple the honest way — by consistently delivering on everything it promises. The sleek, modern interior with handmade lighting and a relaxed lounge feel is a draw on its own, but it’s the rooftop patio — complete with outdoor fireplaces and cityscape views — that makes summer evenings here something to plan around. The JOEY team of award-winning Executive Chefs has built a globally inspired menu that covers all the bases well: lobster spaghetti, crispy tofu bowl, Baja fish tacos, steak frites, and a full cocktail and wine programme that keeps pace with the food. The rooftop lounge is also thoughtfully designed for events, with a focal-point bar, social table, and intimate booths — a setup that works just as naturally for a birthday celebration as for an after-work drink. JOEY Burnaby is the kind of place that draws you back not because it surprises you, but because it never lets you down.

Sports Bar
Abbotsford

Watching sport is best experienced as a communal activity, and few places in the Fraser Valley do it better than The Canadian Brewhouse in Abbotsford. The Canadian-themed sports bar and grill greets guests with a giant Inukshuk at the door and delivers on the promise inside: a venue loaded with big screens, tabletop speakers for nights when multiple games are running simultaneously, and a lively, unpretentious atmosphere that feels like coming home. The rooftop patio is a genuine seasonal draw — a breezy perch overlooking west Abbotsford, where signature Caesars, Wings Wednesday specials, and legendary 40-ounce steak nights land with predictable popularity. The extensive menu covers all the classics — smashburgers, poutine, ribs, fish and chips, pasta — with gluten-free and vegetarian options throughout. Since opening its first Fraser Valley location in 2016, the Brewhouse has become a community institution, the kind of neighbourhood spot where regulars are known by name.

The waitress we had was wonderful, though she was new- she was always at the table refilling and chatting. Very kind and considerate.

Yaletown

Perched 120 feet above Yaletown at the top of The Parker Hotel, Parker Rooftop is one of Vancouver’s number-one rooftop bars — and a visit quickly explains why. The 4,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor space boasts soaring 20-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows framing unobstructed city and ocean views, and three distinct patio spaces that feel more resort than city centre. The cocktail programme is the real draw: artisanal creations that are as visually striking as they are well-constructed, from the spicy, punchy Devil in Disguise to pitcher-format PR Smashes built for sharing. The food menu is shareable and carefully considered — house sourdough with tomato jam and maître d’hôtel butter, scallops, beef tartare, fish-and-chip cones with caviar, and a show-stopping Baked Alaska that arrives flambéed. The fireplace on the covered patio keeps the mood warm on cooler nights. Whether it’s golden hour cocktails or a late-night dinner after a Yaletown stroll, Parker Rooftop is the city’s most polished rooftop option.

Not every great rooftop is obvious from street level — and 1931 Gallery Bistro is one of Vancouver’s most rewarding discoveries. Suspended on the second floor of the iconic Vancouver Art Gallery building, between soaring concrete columns and overlooking Robson Square below, the bistro’s licensed outdoor patio is widely regarded as one of the best-kept secrets in the city. The West Coast menu rotates with the seasons and sources local flavours throughout: think salmon burgers with dill aioli, fresh poke bowls, roasted herb chicken salads, and brunch plates built for a leisurely weekend morning. All proceeds from the bistro go directly to support the Vancouver Art Gallery and its programming — so every meal here is, in a small way, an act of cultural patronage. The patio stays warm and convivial in summer, with live music adding atmosphere on certain evenings. For anyone who hasn’t yet discovered this spot, pairing a Gallery visit with a long, sunny lunch on the terrace is one of the better afternoons Vancouver has to offer.

Cocktail Bar
Coquitlam

Bar Lucia is named for the beloved wife of Gigi — the Italian restaurant below it at Coquitlam’s TriCity Pavilion — and everything about the space reflects that spirit of affection and care. An intimate rooftop bar on the second floor above Gigi’s, Bar Lucia is a seasonal terrace with mountain views that shift with the light and a cocktail programme built for the kind of unhurried evening that good company and a well-made drink demand. The curated cocktail list leans Italian-inspired, with shareable snacks — refined finger-food bites — designed to complement rather than compete with the drinks. The mood is quietly elegant and decidedly more intimate than the vibrant dining room below. It’s the kind of place that rewards those who plan ahead: Bar Lucia is popular among couples and small groups who know that not every great night out needs to be loud. A genuinely lovely rooftop addition to the Tri-Cities dining scene, and well worth the trip from Vancouver.

Came to celebrate my birthday with my husband for the first time upstairs. The food was delicious and we loved everything, and service was good. My only disappointment is that even though they knew it was my birthday, there was no little desert offered. We ended up ordering our own, the Ferrero Rocher, which was very delicious, but we’ve also celebrated many birthdays downstairs at gigis and know that they offer you a little something to celebrate your day.

Langley

Moxies Langley has positioned itself as the anchor dining destination of the Fraser Valley — a newly renovated, bright-and-modern restaurant connected directly to the Sandman Signature Langley Hotel, just minutes from the Langley Events Centre. The venue covers an impressive spread of spaces: a lively lounge with plenty of screens, a full dining room with a globally inspired menu, and two outdoor spaces including a summer rooftop patio that draws a reliable crowd on warm evenings. The rooftop runs a 19+ atmosphere, a full bar, outdoor TVs, and live local music every Thursday through the summer months — a combination that makes it as suited to a post-game wind-down as to a date night. The menu balances comfort and creativity well: mango chicken, baby back ribs, miso ramen, pork and ginger gyoza, and a wine list that goes half-price on bottles every Wednesday. Whether you’re heading to an event at the Events Centre or simply looking for Langley’s most versatile rooftop, Moxies delivers.

Downtown

A beloved Downtown izakaya institution — Eat Bar & Patio Haraheri is known for its dazzling rooftop garden terrace that made its name so popular. Set between the Granville Entertainment District and the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre, the patio is lush with greenery and faintly transported: traditional Japanese design elements meet a modern, hip interpretation that conjures the feeling of arriving somewhere new. The kitchen blends Yoshoku techniques with Washoku traditions to produce a shareable Japanese fusion tapas menu that earns its regulars: chicken karaage, wagyu hamburg steak, A5 wagyu oden, tonkatsu, crispy ebi fries, and a plant-based menu robust enough to impress committed vegetarians alongside the most committed carnivores. The patio can accommodate up to 150 guests and is well-suited to group bookings, team events, and celebrations. The combination of well-priced set menus, sake, and rooftop garden seating under a Vancouver summer sky makes Haraheri one of downtown’s most genuinely enjoyable outdoor Japanese experiences.

Richmond

Steveston’s Fisherman’s Wharf is already one of the most scenic spots in metro Vancouver — and Catch Kitchen & Bar makes the absolute most of it. Perched on the second floor of Bayview Pier, the rooftop patio delivers a 270-degree panoramic view of the river’s inlet that catches sunsets spectacularly, making it one of the most coveted outdoor tables outside the city proper. The menu is a bright, locally inspired seafood programme built around the bounty just outside the window: in-house prepared crab cakes, miso-glazed black cod, seafood bouillabaisse with saffron and fresh focaccia, lobster carbonara, and a prawn and scallop linguine that earns frequent praise. For those who aren’t purely in the mood for seafood, the kitchen also delivers solid steaks and comfort plates. The sports lounge with high-definition screens makes it an equally good call on game days. The friendly, attentive service team and the fact that staff will happily accommodate seating preferences for special occasions make Catch Kitchen an easy recommendation for anyone exploring Richmond’s Steveston waterfront.
