Seafood
West End

A seafood-and-chop house that has been operating since 1985, Joe Fortes Seafood & Chop House is a Vancouver institution. The restaurant is known above all for its rooftop garden patio: a lush urban oasis above the West End streets, complete with a living green wall, an outdoor fireplace, and a bustling horseshoe bar that draws a reliably lively crowd. The kitchen sources ingredients from Pacific Northwest farmers, fishermen, and food artisans, and the menu reflects that connection to place — more than 50 kinds of fresh fish alongside premium oysters, a legendary three-tiered seafood tower loaded with lobster, crab, oysters, and chilled prawns, and miso-marinated sablefish that regulars return for reliably. Live piano music fills the main floor most evenings. The rooftop garden runs warm and welcoming from the moment the season opens — arrive early, claim a fireplace seat, and let a plate of oysters do the rest.

A really outstanding dining experience—from walking in the door to walking out and everything in between. Highly recommended!

Few dining addresses in Vancouver combine heritage character with a view quite like Tap & Barrel Bridges, a two-storey restaurant perched at the western tip of Granville Island. Operated under the Tap & Barrel banner, this is a space with spectacular waterfront patios looking out over False Creek and the city skyline beyond. The menu mixes Canadian comfort classics — chicken wings, wood-fired pizzas, chowder — with market-led specials including chilled seafood platters, ahi tuna ceviche, and a rotating Fresh Sheet that chases the season. The seasonal seafood lineup regularly features lobster mac and cheese and steak and lobster combos. Happy hour runs twice daily, brunch is served on weekends, and the two-level covered patio stays comfortable through even the coolest summer evenings. The Aquabus stops nearby, which makes arriving from Yaletown or downtown half the fun.

So glad to see old Bridges 'staples on the menu' like the seafood caesar salad are still as good as ever. Very attentive service; thank you Liam.

Yaletown

Minami is where Yaletown comes for Japanese food: an aburi-specialist restaurant in the tradition of its sister venue Miku, built around flame-searing techniques. The kitchen that integrates Ocean Wise sustainable seafood and locally sourced Pacific Northwest produce into a menu centred on pressed, blowtorch-seared oshi sushi — the aburi salmon oshi and the champagne roll are perennial favourites — alongside hot entrées, house-made Japanese-European desserts, and a sake list assembled by one of Vancouver’s foremost sake experts. In summer, Minami’s hidden garden patio opens to the street: a zen-conscious, tucked-away terrace that feels genuinely secluded despite sitting in the heart of Yaletown. Two private dining rooms, each decorated with original murals by Kyoto-born artist Hideki Kimura, make it equally suited to private celebrations. The chef’s tasting menu is the most complete expression of the kitchen’s range.

We had a fantastic experience at the bar, albeit i wish the vision was less obstructed by their knives and papers and such. Watching them make the sushi is a real show, we love that part. Kim was was absolutely charming. 3 year in a row we have come for Marlow Bday! We will be back soon.

Steakhouse
Downtown

Gotham has been one of Vancouver’s most awarded steakhouses since 1999, and it earns that reputation in part by occupying one of the city’s finest settings: a protected heritage art deco building on Seymour Street, designed in 1933 and faithfully restored when the restaurant opened. The soaring interiors — sumptuous leather, velvet upholstery, and the building’s original art deco detailing — give way in summer to a secluded garden patio on the south side, one of the city’s favourite al fresco dining spots. Executive chef Jean Claude Douguet oversees a classic steakhouse menu built entirely on Canada Prime grade beef and the freshest available seafood. An extensive award-winning wine list and hand-crafted cocktails round out the offering. The lounge hosts live music most evenings; and daily social hour on the patio with 40% off all sparkling wine. Gotham is the kind of Downtown steakhouse that earns lifelong loyalty.

Beach House sits at the foot of West Vancouver’s Dundarave Pier — at the water’s edge, in a heritage-designated building — and delivers what it promises: a West Coast seafood experience with panoramic views of the Burrard Inlet and the city beyond that are, on a clear summer evening, genuinely difficult to surpass. The seafood-centric menu rotates with the seasons and chases the freshest available ingredients: oysters served icy cold on the half-shell with raspberry mignonette and cucumber lime granita, a chef’s selection seafood tower, maple soy sablefish, and miso sea bass that reviewers return to reliably. The heated beachside patio sits directly above the water; the seawall runs just steps away. An award-winning wine list of over 100 selections pairs with every course. Live music runs on Thursday evenings. Beach House is worth the drive across the bridge — and if anything, that is underselling it.

Botanist occupies the second floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Coal Harbour, and it has become one of Canada’s most celebrated restaurants — listed on Canada’s 50 Best Restaurants and on the World’s 50 Best Discovery list, with a MICHELIN Guide recommendation for the bar programme alongside. The restaurant’s philosophy is grounded in the principles of botany: the menu highlights regionally grown produce, sustainably sourced seafood, and ingredients from organic backyard farmers and suppliers across British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest, handled with contemporary technique. Laguna’s signature black pepper salmon with smoked buttermilk is the kind of dish that defines a kitchen’s point of view. Four distinct spaces — bar and lab, garden, dining room, and the TASCHEN Library — each offer their own personality; the garden room brings the outdoors in with abundant greenery and natural light. Beverage director Grant Sceney’s cocktail programme, named World-Class Canadian Bartender of the Year, matches the kitchen’s ambition at every turn.

Acquafarina began life as a planned pizzeria — the large wood-burning ovens still preside over the room — but evolved into something considerably more ambitious: a MICHELIN Guide-recommended fine dining Italian restaurant set inside a former Bank of Montreal, with soaring ceilings, a copper bar, and a 5,000-bottle wine cellar that would be the centrepiece of any room. Seasonal Italian classics are prepared with local ingredients and old-world precision: Hokkaido scallops with pink peppercorn and crispy shallots, hamachi with limoncello foam and pomegranate, hand-rolled pasta, and wood-fired pizza that the kitchen — smartly — still produces. The enclosed heated patio with a retractable roof is the spot that offers the best mix of formality and fun; it’s available for private group bookings and makes an ideal summer soirée setting. Celebrity sightings are not uncommon — Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are among those who have found their way here.

Provence Marinaside is at the heart of Vancouver’s dining scene, and its waterfront patio on the False Creek Marina in Yaletown is the most reliably transporting outdoor table in the neighbourhood. Chef and co-owner Jean-Francis Quaglia — a native of Provence, France, who was personally knighted by the French government as a Chevalier of the Ordre du Mérite Agricole for his dedication to French cuisine — brings a distinctly Provençal sensibility to Pacific seafood: fresh oysters at the raw bar, classic bouillabaisse, crab and shrimp cakes, mussels and escargot, and a menu that extends through pastas, lamb, and duck for those who prefer to go further afield. The award-winning wine programme is one of Vancouver’s most extensive, with over 100 wines by the glass and a reserve list curated around exclusive winemaker dinner events throughout the year. The patio faces the marina directly, with seawall activity playing out at eye level. A taste of the South of France, without the jet lag.

False Creek

Bae Side Co. arrived at Stamps Landing on the south shore of False Creek in summer 2025 — a Bohemian-inspired waterfront concept from Mishree Restaurant Concepts, operating from one of the city’s most coveted patio positions, with open-sky views of the downtown skyline, the North Shore mountains, and Yaletown across the water. The outdoor terrace was previously home to a beloved Vancouver waterfront institution; the Bae Side team has filled it with comfortable new seating, live music several nights a week, and a menu that globe-trots across cultures without losing its West Coast footing: hamachi crudo marinated in citrus and herbs, Pacific poke bowls, urfa kebabs, Smash burger sliders, and shareable small plates drawing on Pan-Asian, Mediterranean, and Indian influences. Zero-proof cocktail options run alongside the full bar. An Aquabus stop sits just below the patio.

Chinatown

Owner Giovanni Mascagni, a Florence native who refined his artisanal craft in Tuscany, founded the MICHELIN Bib Gourmand-awarded Fiorino as a tribute to Florentine street food. The Chinatown original transitions seamlessly from daytime to evening, serving authentic schiacciata sandwiches at lunch before shifting to a Negroni-focused aperitivo hour and family-style sharing plates for dinner. The kitchen keeps the menu grounded in honest Italian technique: coccoli e prosciutto (deep-fried dough with prosciutto di Parma, the quintessential Florentine aperitivo snack), arancini, pork belly, and vegetable-forward share plates alongside the Negroni list. The small pop-up patio alongside the Chinatown dining room is a coveted warm-weather seat — intimate, unpretentious, and completely Italian in spirit. Wine is poured by the ounce from the carafe, the way it should be.

PIER 7 sits on the historic boardwalk of the Victory Shipyards in North Vancouver’s Shipyards District — one of Metro Vancouver’s most celebrated waterfront dining addresses, and one of the most visually striking in the entire region. The restaurant offers 180-degree views from its two heated patios and floor-to-ceiling windows: Coal Harbour, Stanley Park, the Port of Vancouver, and the full arc of the downtown skyline spread out across the water. The boat-to-table seafood menu is built around Ocean Wise sustainable sourcing, with a signature seafood tower featuring poached lobster tail, wild red prawns, tuna poke, and Dungeness crab; blackened salmon with grilled prawns; and steelhead and scallops among the standout mains.
