The best restaurants in Houston for 2026

Houston’s food scene is one of America’s great underreported culinary stories — a city of an extraordinary diversity that has quietly built a dining landscape as cosmopolitan as any in the country. The MICHELIN Guide arrived in Texas in 2024, and Houston collected six stars: a Mediterranean tasting menu destination; an Indian restaurant whose chef spent 100 days traveling India’s 29 states before writing the menu; and a Spanish bungalow lined with Picasso and Dalí originals. But the best restaurants in Houston tell a wider story still — one that takes in a James Beard Award-winning Thai chef who opened in a former Popeye’s in the East End, a West African restaurant whose chef holds an MBA and a Bib Gourmand, and a Southern kitchen named for a pioneering Black Texas culinary entrepreneur who founded her own food corporation in the 1940s. Whether you’re searching for where to eat and drink in Houston for a landmark occasion or a neighborhood dinner, the range is exceptional.

Book your table on OpenTable and discover the best restaurants in Houston today.

Like his beloved food stall, James Beard semifinalist Ope Amosu’s first brick-and-mortar restaurant is a full-on celebration of the West African diaspora. Come for hits like jollof jambalaya, suya with yaji peanut pepper spice, and a deviled Scotch egg that landed the restaurant spots on the New York Times’, Esquire’s, and Eater’s 2025 best-of lists. Don’t miss playful cocktails like a plantain-garnished old fashioned, ideal for lingering in the vibrant space decked out with African textiles, books, and records.

We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at Musaafer, and we had such a wonderful time! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, and the atmosphere made the evening feel extra special. The food was amazing, and everything about the experience made it a great choice for our anniversary. Our server, Mark, was great and helped make the evening enjoyable. I also had the pleasure of speaking with Assistant General Manager Khadisia, which was a nice touch. I really appreciate when people take the time to make you feel welcome, especially when you're celebrating a special occasion. Twenty years of marriage is a milestone worth celebrating, and I'm glad we chose Musaafer for ours. Between the beautiful setting, delicious food, and wonderful hospitality, it was a memorable evening. I would definitely recommend Musaafer for a special occasion or a nice night out. ❤️🥂

Always amazing food and phenomenal service. The venue is exceptional and consistent with the experience. It’s our go to “special occasion” spot and never disappoints. The table side Caesar salad is the best in the city. The wait staff is excellent and truly appreciates your patronage.

Perfect lunch dine-in experience. Took my mom we were greated by friendly hostess, followed by a nice attentative server. We ordered The Hot Chicken sandwich plate, it did not disappoint. Filled with flavor with a hot temp amplified the bold seasonings. We left pleased.

Seafood
Montrose

The Houston Chronicle, Eater, Esquire, The Infatuation, and more have all heaped praise on this gorgeous seafood restaurant in Montrose. Chef Jason Ryczek puts a fresh spin on Gulf cuisine with dishes like baked Gulf oysters stuffed with blue crab and absinthe or chicken fried snapper with sauce ravigote. The raw bar is a main focus, as is caviar service if you’re feeling flush, and the creative cocktails, such as the vodka-based Dill Breaker, served at the beautiful mirrored bar are another reason the restaurant has become a local favorite.

Absolutely incredible experience, I took my girlfriend here to celebrate our anniversary and not only did they go all out on the service but also surprised us with complimentary lobster gnocchi, wine, and dessert. The food was absolutely delicious we loved the oysters and the lobster gnocchi was just amazing. Can’t say enough good things about this restaurant, Alex was awesome, the service assistants made you feel catered to, drinks were delicious, and the carrot cake was excellent. Will come again 100%
