Melbourne takes brunch seriously. From laneway cafés pulling some of Australia’s finest specialty coffee to sprawling nursery restaurants on the city’s western fringe, the best brunch in Melbourne is an endlessly varied, genuinely world-class affair. Whether it’s a Japanese-inspired spread in the CBD, a bottomless brunch fuelled by gin tonics and sangria, an all-day Italian in South Yarra overlooking the Royal Botanic Gardens, or a pot-to-plate feast tucked inside a Werribee plant nursery, Melbourne’s best brunch restaurants span cuisines, neighbourhoods, and occasions with remarkable range and quality. The weekend brunch culture here is embedded in the city’s identity — a ritual as central to Melbourne life as the footy, the laneways, and the flat white.

Café
Melbourne CBD

Code Black Coffee is one of Melbourne’s most respected specialty roasters, and its Flinders Lane café in the CBD brings that coffee-first philosophy to one of the city’s most celebrated eating and drinking corridors. The space has the considered, understated aesthetic that characterises Melbourne’s best café culture — clean lines, serious equipment, and a team that treats coffee as the main event rather than an afterthought. The brunch menu matches that sensibility: carefully sourced, seasonal Australian fare that complements rather than competes with the cup in hand. Code Black has built a devoted following among Melbourne’s coffee cognoscenti since its founding, and the Flinders Lane location captures the brand’s commitment to quality and craft in a setting that feels distinctly of its neighbourhood. For those who measure a brunch by the quality of the coffee that anchors it, Code Black on Flinders Lane is an essential Melbourne stop.

Spanish
Melbourne CBD

Crossley St Cantina brings the colour, warmth, and unapologetic conviviality of Spanish dining to the Melbourne CBD — and on weekends, it hosts one of the city’s most spirited and genuinely fun bottomless brunches. Running every Saturday and Sunday, the 90-minute bottomless brunch delivers free-flowing gin tonicas — the Spanish-style gin and tonic in sweet, savoury, and citrus variations — alongside vermouth spritz, Aperol spritz, sangria, beer, and wine. Five plates of the chef’s favourite dishes round out the experience, turning the weekend afternoon into something that feels far more like a fiesta than a meal. The cantina’s warm, animated room on Crossley Street — one of Melbourne’s most charming dining laneways — provides the perfect backdrop for this kind of celebratory, Spanish-inflected abandon. For the best bottomless brunch in Melbourne’s CBD, Crossley St Cantina is the answer

Fantastic food. As a coeliac not having to think about it was great. Service was brilliant. Sat outside and the atmosphere was fun.

Café
Melbourne CBD

Operator San is one of Melbourne CBD’s most distinctive café propositions — a Japanese-inspired brunch destination that brings the precision, restraint, and ingredient reverence of Japanese culinary culture to Melbourne’s beloved weekend brunch ritual. The result is something genuinely different from the standard brunch circuit: clean flavours, considered presentation, and a menu that finds natural common ground between the Japanese kitchen and Melbourne’s café sensibility. The space reflects that same aesthetic — minimal, intentional, and quietly beautiful — attracting a clientele that appreciates the difference between brunch that is merely good and brunch that is genuinely thoughtful. For those who find the best brunch experiences in the intersection between cultures and culinary traditions, Operator San offers a CBD morning visit that stands apart from the crowd in the best possible way

Very happy with all aspects of location, menu offer, food, service and ambience. Limited number of tables, so it is a good idea to reserve a table.

This is my second time dining at the Secret Kitchen, on Exhibition Street. Was as amazing this time, as the first time. I have been to China, and the food at SK is as good, or better, than what I enjoyed in China.

Mexican
Melbourne CBD

Bodega Underground brings the bold, festive spirit of Mexican cuisine deep beneath the Melbourne CBD — a subterranean dining room that channels the energy of a Mexico City cantina into a setting that is as fun and unexpected as it is genuinely good to eat in. The kitchen draws on the Mexican culinary tradition’s extraordinary range and depth: fresh salsas, proper guacamole, slow-cooked meats, and the kind of warm, corn-based cooking that makes Mexican food so universally loved — all executed with the flair and confidence that makes a great Mexican restaurant feel like a celebration rather than just a meal. The underground setting gives Bodega a sense of occasion and discovery that above-ground venues rarely achieve, and the atmosphere on a weekend brunch service is animated and welcoming. For those seeking a brunch that is genuinely different — and genuinely delicious — Bodega Underground delivers.

Omg this was absolutely amazing. Only one small complaint is that the margarita mix ran out. We had ordered our last round and told 20mins later it was sold out. We would have liked the option of another flavour but it wasn't available. Everything else was absolutely amazing. Will be highly recommending to family and friends. Thank you for having us.

Werribee

The Feasting Shed at The Garden Feast is one of Greater Melbourne’s most enchanting and original brunch destinations — a licensed café set within the lush grounds of the Simpson Family’s Garden Feast Nursery in Werribee, where guests dine surrounded by tropical ferns, potted plants, and the kind of greenery that makes the room feel like a botanical escape from the ordinary. The kitchen is built around a genuine pot-to-plate philosophy: house-made cheeses and yoghurts, garden-picked salads, local Werribee South greens, and foraged native plants anchor an all-day brunch menu that includes brioche French toast with mascarpone cream, corn and zucchini fritters with roast capsicum sauce, and smoked salmon on multigrain with honey and dill dressing. The Garden Feast has been family-owned since 1972, and that sense of deep-rooted care and community runs through every aspect of the experience. Dogs are welcome, kids are catered for, and the nursery itself is worth a browse before or after the meal — a brunch experience unlike any other in Melbourne

A truly delightful brunch. Impressed with the chef's homemade hash browns! I had zucchini fritters with added mushrooms and hash brown - kept me full until dinner. My friend had eggs on sourdough - just perfect! Great coffee. Attentive staff - moved our reservation to outside without a drama. Checked our meals were alright -a caring, professional touch. Will definetely return.
