Papi is a low-waste focused restaurant located in London Fields with a changing, seasonal menu and a low intervention wine list.

Our dining room is intimate and cosy, with low tables, counter top and a high-top chef’s table in front of our open kitchen.

Our menu, which is designed to share, changes regularly but we offer dishes such as BBQ potato bun with tuna ‘Nduja, raw bream and Tosazu as well as larger format plates like whole John Dory with yuzu Beurre Blanc or adobo Guinea Fowl with baby leeks.

So sad it’s closing down, had a really great experience. The food was amazing, the staff fantastic and it was such a chilled and relaxing environment. They were also really accommodating of our dog Iggy! Loved the dessert option after their ice cream machine broke. Look forward to visiting the new venture!

We first waited 45min for the table we had booked. At first no drinks or snacks offered, while we were waiting standing in the entrance. After 25min, they finally sat us down downstairs and brought us some water. Even though I had booked a table, they ended up seating us at the kitchen counter. Food was good but portions small and overall way too little for £75. Not worth the value for money. We left still hungry and ended up ordering pizza once at home.

Despite booking in advance for NYE they were running very late, everything was chaotic. The food wasn’t handed together and they forgot about our mains resulting into them rushing and burning it and part of the waiting staff had to start help cook as one chef had already left which then was burnt. Followed by waiting a very long time for one dessert then another 10 for the next at this point it was nearly midnight. The portions were small and of not good quality considering it was 100+ each.

We came here for my birthday dinner and we’re a bit disappointed overall. The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice and lively, food is regular east London style, experimental, a bit overpriced but good. What we didn’t like was the service. All the food was brought out at once within 3-5mins of ordering, so we were basically done eating in 25mins, we felt super rushed, like the restaurant was aiming to get us to finish and leave asap so they could sell the table again. This always happens in London, but this was extreme. Also absolutely no acknowledgement from the restaurant that it was a birthday, not even a simple happy birthday wish.

We chose PAPI because it had a more refined menu than many other places in Hackney. Overall the menu is varied and interesting, and some of the dishes were pleasant and well executed. However many were simply just alright. I felt it was almost trying too hard to be different but some of the dishes just didn’t quite work. The partridge was a bit tough, potatoes in a cheese sauce … alright. The prawn toast and the desserts however were very nice. Good atmosphere and excellent staff and service.
