About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
Cured – The gastro-pub style restaurant, in the heart of the Pearl District of San Antonio, TX. Cured is endowed with a name that celebrates Chef Steve McHugh's successful battle against cancer, as well as the artisanal cured meats that are the cornerstone of his menu. The three-time James Beard Award finalist began his culinary journey on a small farm in Wisconsin and a vibrant decade in New Orleans. This position eventually led him to San Antonio where, with a new lease on life after beating lymphoma, he ventured out on his own to open Cured. McHugh's gastronomic foundation relies on the purity of natural regional ingredients and the hands-on unadultured methods that enhanced his own healing process. This from-scratch focus finds its way to seasonally dynamic menus of cured delicacies from the charcuterie to pickles.

It was their second to last day before closing, but our first time there. Really wish we had paid them a visit sooner as there were limited options due to things selling out.

I’ve been a fan of Cured since they first opened in 2013. I remember hanging out at the bar on a random Tuesday and having the best meal of my life! In May, my now-husband proposed to me during dinner, and the staff was quick to notice and congratulate us with big smiles and sparkling wine. They helped make a memorable moment just that much more special. We had the pleasure of returning this afternoon for our last meal there. It was exceptional, as usual, and a beautiful way to say goodbye. Thank you for all the memories!!!

We enjoyed our chance to eat here during their final weekend. Our server, Hunter, was impeccable. Best wishes to all staff as they seek jobs elsewhere.

Service was excellent! Coffee and desserts delicious! The kale Caesar was great! The dry aged pork steak was overall good, but slightly overcooked and definitely over-salted. The charcuterie was good.

I was really looking forward to this meal. Chef Steve McHugh was cooking in New Orleans for a long time before arriving in San Antonio in 2013 and opened Cured. I was in San Antonio from New Orleans for Christmas and wanted to make sure that I had one meal at Cured. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. Since the weather was very cold that night I passed on the Charcuterie and chose 2 hot dishes, Broccolini and the Lobster Gnocchi. Both items came at the same time which would not have been my preference. The Broccolini was very fibrous and I could not cut it and I noticed that the ends appeared to be what would normally be trimmed from the vegetable. I love al dente vegetables so that wasn't the problem. I did send the Broccolini back and the new plate was much better. The Lobster Gnocchi came with a lot of oil and I stirred it and it had a very good taste but there was not a whole lot of lobster but the gnocchi was good. I had the Opera Cake for desert and it was excellent as was the Gamay Red Wine. Subsequently I learned that Cured was actually closing permanently on January 4th so this may have been the issue with the food which was unfortunate this possibly does not make this review of much importance since the restaurant will be closed but I wanted to post this to be informative.

The chef-curated charcuterie was outstanding. Grilled steaks and chops were cooked to order but were unpleasantly salty.

Food was average and kids’ “grilled cheese” was a flipped over bun with disgusting spread instead of cheese.

I wasn’t impressed. Apps came before drinks. They didn’t look very busy. Food was good, but there are better place in San Antonio.

The service let the food down. Not a very busy evening and our server seemed well intentioned but not well trained. The biggest hitch was in the delivery of beverages and this seemed related to the bartender not really being attentive. Steaks were perfectly cooked and the frites were some of the best I’ve had outside France. Charcuterie was interesting and beautifully presented.
