Oma's Hideaway is a vibrant, maximalist restaurant inspired by the life and spirit of Chef Thomas Pisha Duffly's grandmother, Kiong Tien “Tina” Vandenberg. Her ability to adapt, to make the most out of limited resources, and to stay creative while projecting warmth and brightness is the guiding force behind Oma’s Hideaway.Born during the pandemic as a pop-up in the Gado Gado parking lot, Oma’s became a permanent beacon of iridescent light in Portland’s Richmond neighborhood in 2021. The menu draws from Tina’s life story, taking influence from the craveable, soul-satisfying hawker food of Singapore and Malaysia and “turning up the volume” with exaggerated yet balanced flavors in Chef Tom’s signature style. Oma’s serves dinner accompanied by a seasonal list of hand-crafted cocktails and zero-proof drinks.

    Our experience at L’Echelle, was absolutely amazing! The food was outstanding, from the appetizers to the main course, with every dish exceeding our expectations. The service was equally impressive. From the warm greeting we received upon arrival to the attentiveness of our servers throughout the evening, every detail made us feel welcome and well cared for. The staff was exceptionally polite, knowledgeable, and happy to answer all our questions about the menu. Their recommendations, especially regarding wine pairings, helped make the dining experience even more enjoyable. It’s clear that L’Echelle takes great pride in both its cuisine and its customer service. The combination of exceptional food, thoughtful wine recommendations, and attentive, professional service made for a truly memorable evening. I would highly recommend L’Echelle to anyone looking for an outstanding dining experience.
