Coastal vibes to match the menu—thanks to our friendly staff and murals by Atlanta artist Christina Kwan, spanning the dining room, covered front patio, and enclosed, heated back patio.

• Fusion / Eclectic • Downtown
Booked 60 times today
We know the word "fusion" has been wielded about to justify everything from Hula Burgers to Mexican lasagna. But the East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL. After working in kitchens around the world, Calvin Phan wanted to shake things up a little. And so, into the mac 'n cheese, the Thai spices went. Now, Calvin's giving Southern staples, like sea bass and fried chicken, a decidedly creative Asian-inspired twist (and a nip of spice, too). He has created innovative dishes, approached in much the same way, leave the hands of Calvin Phan day in and day out. His dedication and attention to detail are evident in each dish and dessert. You won't be disappointed.*Last seating 1 hour before close*

Our waiter was excellent, attentive, and funny!! All the staff was friendly, like they know you for years. The food, oh my goodness, delicious and like nothing I've had before. We ordered the Wonton appetizer with cheese sauce. I've need had wonton like this and won't be able to each any others! And the WB Burger, cooked perfectly! We all tried it different, with egg, with bacon, regular and no cheese (don't ask lol) and we all 'tried' to finish even the last bite. We'll be back and we'll be regulars!! Thank you for such excellent service and food.

I finally had the opportunity to dine at La Grotta, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome, and the atmosphere was elegant without feeling stuffy. Every dish was absolutely delicious and beautifully prepared. You can tell they take pride in using quality ingredients and paying attention to every detail. The service was outstanding—attentive, professional, and perfectly paced, allowing us to enjoy each course without ever feeling rushed. What stood out most was the overall experience. It’s not just a place to eat; it’s a place to slow down, enjoy great conversation, and appreciate an exceptional meal. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for one of the best Italian restaurants in Atlanta, La Grotta is worth every visit. I’ll definitely be back, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. Also, I loved the minimalist lamps on the table and already order two of them on Amazon 😊

Our third visit here since they revamped the restaurant and menu. We love the creative, varied menu, which seems to cover a bit of everything no matter what mood you’re in (though it’s not one of those long menus where nothing it good). Ben, the server, is great. The booths are comfortable.

Our red snapper was outstanding and someone also ordered the short rib and declared it melt in your mouth delicious. When we left we each got a complimentary box of yummy pastries. The service was so attentive and efficient that it bordered on too much ( taking away bread plates) but give me that kind of service any day to being slow and being ignored. We will come back.
