We ended up visiting 3 times during our 7-day visit. Loved the view watching the sunset over a cove and monkeys in the distant trees. Service was very attentive and excellent food. We had fish, sushi, octopus and chicken dishes over our three visits. Would definitely return again on our next visit.

Both the food and the service at Insurgentes 21 is impeccable, we started with the tortilla soup which was one of the best I have ever had, very flavorful and perfectly prepared. Then we had the lomo tacos which were delicious, for the next course we had the picanha with a side of Mac and cheese and the bone marrow, this is our second time having the picanha and it was even better this time, absolutely perfectly cooked, and very high quality beef. The Bone marrow on tortillas is incredible too, and we put a little bone marrow on our beef and it was outstanding as well. I'm usually disappointed with restaurant mac & cheese but this one was outstanding, very cheesy and with a Mexican twist, the spices and jalapeños they used really enhanced the flavor. I also tried the Insurgentes Paloma which was very good and finally the wine by the glass is outstanding it was reasonably priced and a broad selection which is often rare to see. I can't recommend this restaurant enough.

I would not heaitate to recommend 11.47 to anyone in San Jose. We got the 5 course tasting menu with the drink pairing and every detail was sublime. Every ingredient had a story, each flavor complimented the others, the plating was creative and beautiful and we were mesmerized and delighted with each bite! The service was great … felt cared for without overdoing it. The dishes were a perfect blend of celebrating the farm to table and true to Costa Rica experience, while also elevating each dish with innovative takes on traditional flavors. For the final course, the dessert knocked it out of the park. They created a gorgeous coffee ice cream sloth, over a caramelized banana log with some type of crunchy brittle heaven drizzle. My description doesn’t do it justice … just take it from me and GO TO 11.47!
