"The Sherborne is a reborn wonder. Once a grand house with a staircase mural by Sir James Thornhill, whose other works include the paintings on the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral, Sherborne House became so dilapidated that it was placed on the Heritage at Risk register. Now sensitively refurbished, it’s the town’s premier arts venue, with extensive galleries, an impressive events space and shop. The Sherborne also welcomes visitors to the popular Macready’s Restaurant and Bar, serving everything from light bites (from £12) to substantial main courses such as smoked ham hock with confit garlic and leek and pearl barley risotto (£22) and pan-fried gnocchi (£19.50), in an atmospheric and glamorous setting with attentive, unfussy service." As noted by Jon Woolcott in The 50 best museum cafes in the UK, The Guardian (15 April 2025)

Excellent family meal, able to cope with all our needs and flexible as we had children and people that wanted flexibility with pizzas etc. We are glad we had table early as it got busy later and the only minor things was getting bill when we wanted to go but that said the person taking the cards ( several) was very patient . Excellent value and choice

Fantastic place to eat, beautiful decor, really nice beer garden, lovely staff very helpful, they want you to have a good experience. The menu was varied, you get quality on a plate. The steak was perfectly cooked. We went there for my brothers 60th and they gave me a recommendation for a cake maker and they decorated the table for us. Jon and his staff went over and above. We would definitely recommend The Royal Oak if you are staying in the area.
