We had an amazing time at Modan for dinner, celebrating my mother’s birthday. They accommodated our four children and were super attentive and friendly. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. and the food was phenomenal. Thank you to Chef Chiko, our server, Alana, Corey, Peggy and Parsa for their hospitality.

As always, the food was delicious the Service wonderful. I always highly recommend Sushiko. Last night we tried their crispy beef gyoza which was a special. It was absolutely delicious and you should grab it while it’s there.

It was our first time dining here and we were pleasantly surprised. As vegetarians, there are plenty of choices and we thoroughly enjoyed the small plates. We will be back to try some of their sushi and other dishes we were not able to try on the first trip. The pickled okra were delicious. We had Gabriel as our server and he was excellent. We look forward to trying out the Ramen place, too. I was curious that I did not see items with tofu or silken tofu on the menu - are these available at all on the 2F restaurant? Cheers, Ashwin

This is one the BEST Japanese food places in DC. I have been to multiple places including the high end ones where they don’t let you even have a soda with your meal to the hole in the wall sushi spot. Their hamachi roll was SOOOO good that I ordered two. Even my friend who hates eating raw food was thoroughly impressed. Other items I really loved: the beef gyozas, the spicy tuna roll, and edamame. I wasn’t a huge fan of the miso cod because it was a little too sweet for me. Other than that, everything was amazing. I can’t wait to return.

I stumbled upon this restaurant after shopping at Wegman’s and was intrigued because it brought back fond memories of a solo trip I took to Japan a couple of years ago. So, I knew I had a lunch meeting with an old friend and scheduled a reservation. While there in my haste and attentive to all the good news she was sharing, I failed to write a review during this visit. But another opportunity today came around today and made it my point to not miss the opportunity again. We were greeted again by “Helen” who was one of the nicest people you would want to meet. I would not expect less from the culture. We sat inside at a window facing outside. It was an old friend from childhood (6 years old) celebrating her birthday because she too was intrigued by the food since she had never eaten any. We started off as a starter with the Shinwa Chicken Wings; perfectly cooked, seasoned, and glazed to perfection. Then she ordered the Shinwa Stir Fry Udon Delight and I ordered the Sesame Chicken Lunch Bento. We were so full after eating because everything was absolutely delicious. I told her that she had to get a dessert because it was her birthday and that I could assist her in eating it. I happened to mention to Helen that it was her birthday, and she came out with a surprise of the following: Chocolate Souffle, Matcha Ice Cream, and Mochi with a lit candle on it. We both looked at each other and dug in; it was the right thing to do, don’t judge. For two people who said they were filled when Helen came to get the dessert plates, they were clean. So, if you are in the area, as I say make your way Shinwa Izakaya. The atmosphere is beautiful and so calming along with wonderful service.
