Our visit to Le Vieux Comptoir (not long after the first) ticked all the boxes. The ambience was most civilized, the service friendly and efficient, yet inobtrusive, while the food and wine set the seal on a pleasant and relaxing afternoon. We look forward to returning soon.

We had a table booked for 9pm and were seated immediately on arrival. The service was excellent from start to finish. Given the late hour, a few ingredients and dishes were no longer available, including the partridge. However, the chef and waiting staff were extremely accommodating, offering thoughtful alternatives. The food was excellent throughout. The burrata and clementine salad was a particular highlight, as were the vegetables accompanying the main course. The Basque cheesecake was outstanding – beautifully balanced and not overly sweet. That said, while the food was certainly memorable, it was the warm, friendly and thoroughly professional service that really stood out. The staff were genuinely excellent and would be one of the main reasons we’d happily return.

After hearing how difficult it can be to get a booking I made sure to get a booking in early for my birthday and I was not disappointed! My girlfriend and I shared the pâté and calves brain to start and both were unique and full of flavour, the brain is definitely worth a try and not offal-y as one might imagine. For mains we went for the rabbit with mustard sauce and the goats cheese orzo. The rabbit dish was incredible and one that I will be thinking about for a long time, perfectly cooked and complemented perfectly by the sharp and creamy mustard sauce. The orzo was the perfect mix of light and fresh with the richness of the goats cheese. Dessert was similarly fantastic: crème caramel and ice cream with hot chocolate sauce. These were both dishes that can be found elsewhere in abundance but these were taken to another level. Worth a try if you have any room left! The quality of the food and drinks was paired with truly exceptional service. Unfortunately I didn’t catch our waitresses’ name but she was very friendly and helpful and was full of recommendations and tips based on what she enjoys which I always love to hear from restaurant staff. Everyone had the perfect balance of professionalism with an informality that made you feel at home and comfortable, with no condescension around not knowing certain French dishes or what wine to pair with them. All in all a fantastic birthday meal and I am sure I will be fighting for another reservation shortly!

Really lovely small French Bistro. The food was delicious, wonderful ravioli with mushrooms and chestnut and a dollop of chocolate mousse to die for. The duck was delicious as was the black cod, my onglet steak could have been a bit more tender. Really looking forward to going back.

I came for lunch with my cousin and had a super table at the back . We had the set menu and he really really enjoyed the lovely staff and good value food. It was very relaxed with no one hurrying us to leave. Our Brazilian waitress was totally charming and helpful.
