Amazing omakase. The ingredientes felt so pure, and savory. Incredible variety of seafood. Come here if you want to get a fully traditional japanase experience!
Found hair in the food. The first pieces of sushi are poor quality. Won't go again.
We went for our anniversary dinner and the food, for being a Michelin Star restaurant, was just ok. For both of us, it seemed that there were flavors like ginger and wasabi that overpowered our palettes so all we could taste was that and not the fish. Also our waitress was soft spoken so with the noise level in the restaurant, we could barely hear her. And we went thinking we would have really good sushi like at another omakase but it was somewhat of a let down.
Excellent food and thoughtful service. Special occasion for sure!
We had a wonderful evening at Wako. We sat at the sushi counter and enjoyed personalized experience with sushi chef. Very fresh sashimi. Reasonably priced omakase. Only disappointment was the dessert.
This place was incredible. Would recommend for anyone who loves sushi.
One of the best omakase experiences I’ve had in the Bay Area, and it was reasonable in price. I would come back for another dining experience!
Traditional style Japanese sushi preparation. Blue Fin Tuna items memorable. Nothing special about Omegase menu or preparation. Smaller size fish portion on each piece of sushi.
Excellent food and attention to detail.
Amazing sushi. Great experience. Loved it!
Wako provided the best omakase sushi experience. The food had amazing flavors and was beautiful. The service was impeccable and friendly. I would definitely eat here again for an elevated yet casual/comfortable experience.
The experience was great. When we sat down, our attendant asked to ensure the restaurant knew we were celebrating a birthday (we’ve been to restaurants which actually forgot this even though we entered this information into the reservation notes) and the crew made it a special night by adding the celebratory events on top of the good food, service, and ambiance.
It was a very disappointed experience, not worth the price.
Absolutely amazing! Tomorrow is a sushi artist!
Amazing cuisine, art-ful plating, and food that is as lovely to look at as it was delicious to eat. We also appreciated the fact that it was quiet enough for us to have a wonderful conversation in this cozy, warm, hidden gem. We lived in Japan for 5 years so we are very particular about high-end Japanese food. Wako exceeded all our expectations.
We came to celebrate my retirement, they stamped "Congratulations" on our menu (taken home as a souvenir). The even decorated the dessert plate!
We came last year for our anniversary, and had similar treatment.
The food is to die for; we've tried other Japanese restaurants known for their Omekase (fixed price) menus, and this is by far the best, most succulent bites! Nothing ordinary about the taste and flavor of the fish. We were pleasantly stuffed by the end of the meal.
The sushi was yummy, but I think you’d have to be a sushi expert to tell the difference between several of the bites. The 3 flight meal gets old after about the second flight. Everything is excellently cooked and beautifully presented. I just cannot tell the difference when everything tastes like horseradish. Maybe that’s just me.
Such fine dishes and sushis. Great value. I will go again for sure
The staff were really friendly and chef tomo san really has a great attention to detail. The sushi experience was better because of some training the chef had in kaiseki which were incorporated in the middle of the course. Overall, amazing experience.
What a great dining experience! We went to Wako for my girlfriend's birthday and had such a nice time. The food was fantastic, as was the service. Not once did we feel rushed. The servers and sushi chefs were super attentive, polite and friendly. Food-wise, we both did omakase #2 and were very happy we opted for the larger tasting menu. We also sat at the sushi bar right next to the chef which we really enjoyed. It seemed like everyone at the bar was there for a birthday/special occasion so if you're going to celebrate something, make sure you notate it in the reservation. We definitely recommend Wako and look forward to going back in the future!
Food was delicious and reasonably priced. The chefs were awesome and very friendly.
This was my second time dining at Wako the service was very attentive (without being intrusive); & the ambiance was serene. We were celebrating my best friend's birthday & the staff surprised her with birthday confetti & a candle in her dessert--very thoughtful! I would definitely dine at Wako again.
It was great experiences, great services and food!
Food was amazing, but not cheap! Parking difficult and storefront unassuming. Looks like an average Japanese restaurant, but the service and fish are 5star. A real gem.
Amazing top quality sushi flown fresh every day!
The food and service are impeccable!!!! Will definitely be back!
Some of the best sushi outside of Japan. Beautiful presentation, fresh and high quality.
Came here twice:) Food is good! Fishes are fresh! The waitress was kinda demanding... idk maybe because of her accent?
This is the best Japanese restaurant in SF!! The food is delicious and beautiful. The atmosphere is intimate and service is great! I highly recommend Wako!
The ambience, service, and food were all fantastic. The servers were very attentive and knowledgeable. For the price of the omakase I was hesitant at the quality of the nigiri but I my expectations were blown out of the water. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Probably the best Japanese food experience and we have had many around the US. Blows away Nobu in NYC and London and Matsuhisa in LA by a long shot. I’m constantly given names of Japanese Restaurants to try. Wako is superior in taste, presentation, and service to every place in SF. The dinner was “memorable” and I have only said that about French Laundry, Quince, Per Se in NYC and Les Ambassadeurs in Paris. Pricey but worth it.
outstanding quality -- food, drink, service, setting
Top service experience from staffs and chef. Every course is a piece of art. Quality is exceptional. Highly recommended.
It was absolutely amazing!
My mom and i got the second menu option, which is three courses of a long list of items. A lot of the items were hit or miss. Some were good, like the butterfish nigiri, hamachi nigiri, and cherry blossom dessert. But some were items i was not familiar with and maybe perhaps thats why i didnt enjoy them. The two that specifically come to mind was a piece of sushi made with Japanese mountain pepper. The flavor i would honestly compare to the taste of being maced 😂. The second item i did not enjoy was a piece of raw tuna (nigiri style) that was marinated in jalopeno that i did not enjoy as well. Overall, i feel like the menu items let me down and I was disappointed. I would not reccomend this to a friend.
Celebrating birthday and the food is good. This one of our favorite Sushi to go and dine.
Fish was very fishy , service so so
We made a reservation but couldn't get a bar seat somehow. I don't get why they call it Omakase if they give you a table and serve dishes at once. Overall sushi quality was okay but not worth to be the price. I feel like it's def overpriced. Quality of fish was okay that I couldn't taste much difference. Quality of rice was okay but formed badly. Some sushi rices broke down into pieces. Portion of fish and rice was also not good.
I've tried other Omakase restaurants in SF but I'd put Wako into low scored place in my list. I'd never revisit the place unless they lower price or improve quality.
