Via Italia Restaurant
We had a reservation, arrived 10 minutes early on a Friday night and they told us they were closing!!?
I haven't been to Via Italia in about 10 years (went there last when I worked midtown) and while I was looking for a restaurant post Broadway matinee, I thought of Via Italia and was happy to see it was still in its current location. I loved the food then and I loved it now. The restaurant was quiet, the food was wonderful and will definitely be back again.
Was recommended by a friend for my wife's an my 40th anniversary. We wanted to get some dessert but the food was SO good and such a large portion we were too full. One thing is for sure, when we return to New York Via Italia will always be at the top of our list of places to eat!
Great Italian food ! Tito is awesome . Everything that we ordered was excellent and rhe portions were a nice size .
I highly recommend Via Italia! The staff are attentive and kind; you feel both respected and like family the moment you walk in. The ambiance is fantastic, and the food is wonderful; it's the perfect spot for a quiet conversation over a great meal, with Italian hospitality at its finest.
Wait staff was exceptional and the food - off the menu and the specials --> delicious. (Loved the bread too!)
I made a reservation, it was confirmed, got there and not only did the owner not allow me in, but he was extremely rude.
We, 6 of us gorgeous goddesses, had the most amazing time.
The service was impeccable with their attention to us and their warmth and hospitality.
My veal piccata was perfectly cooked, delicious and pounded incredibly thin.
My only request is for the lighting to dim for better ambience.
An excellent choice for midtown with very good food and reasonable prices.
Cordial and attentive service, convenient location, delicious Italian favorites at reasonable price. I'd return again.
I had a date there on Saturday night, we had fresh mozzarella salad appetizer, chicken & sole pan fried, with homemade parts Alfredo. The food was great! Only thing was they could dim the lights & have some music to make more romantic. But overall very good.
If your looking for a family run Italian restaurant then Via Italia is for you! The entrée prices were reasonable and the menu selection was good. The staff was extremely attentive. The restaurant was located a few blocks from 30 Rock.
We have been eating at Via Italia for nearly twenty years, starting when our two kids were in middle school. This time, it had been more than four years since we've been back. Mario and his team remember our faces and make us feel like family.
The food here is delicious and made in house. The menu changes frequently so that everything is fresh. We have never been disappointed in anything we've ever ordered here.
The people who work at Via Italia will keep you coming back, and we will come back every time!
Had an amazing time food was amazingly delicious service was impeccable. Alfonso was our server and the best service I ever received made me feel at home and he's an great bartender too. Alfonso was very attentive to all or needs and was very happy to help as I had gone with my family from Ukraine. Must say service was impeccable and quality of food and service was fantastic. My hats of to you guys. Great restaurant. My new favourite restaurant. 10 stars if I could must check this restaurant out. Can't say enough about our wonderful evening and experience there. AMAZING!
We went to New York to see our son and had a nice quiet dinner. The service was excellent and two of us really liked our meals. The spaghetti wasn't near the best I have had but the portions for all of us were generous. All in all it was a nice quiet setting and were glad we chose this place.
We sat there for 25 minutes whiteout being acknowledged. We were not even offered a menu, water or anything.
Walked out and they did not even noticed!
Great service, felt sorry for the guys since only two of the guys showed up for work. But they managed very well
I dined at Via Italia during the holidays. The service was very poor. We waited 45 minutes to get the check after requesting it. Additionally, our table went long periods without beverages. We were not well taken care of. I will not be dining here again.
Meal and service were absolutely spectacular!
OpenTable somehow overbooked this restaurant because when our party of 8 arrived, the proprietor said that he's been booked for weeks. He was incredibly gracious and said he would find a way to accommodate us. He unfortunately had to turn away several others that had confirmed same day reservations as well. I'd call to confirm your opentable reservation.
I’m not sure how they are on Open Table, we made a reservation and show up and we’re told they only use open table as a second option for reservation. If you call them direct your first on the list and open table isn’t a guarantee. We along with 8 other groups of people who used open table were turned away because our reservation didn’t actually have a reserve a table for us.
We wanted to eat around Times Square so chose this restaurant. We got there quite a bit early but they were very gracious about seating us.
Our dinners were mediocre and did not taste homemade. We never saw our waiter after our dinner was served. We were never offered grated cheese although we saw other tables getting some. We were never asked if we wanted refills on drinks. We asked for additional bread because it was so good. Never got that. The prices were quite high for the quantity and quality. We would not go back.
Good food but prices are higher than advertised online.
Food was delicious. Bread served with meal. Easy to find.
the food was terrific we both had the veal parm and it was extremely tender. only it was too much to eat. our waiter was MIA the whole meal
my wife asked for capellini but the waiter told her only spaghetti or penne as a side. when he left after taking the order, we called over who was either the manger or the owner and asked why she cant have the capellini. he said no problem. i will tell the waiter to change. after he told our waiter he became very distant to us and even ignore us for the entire rest of the meal. it was served and attended by other individuals. in over 50 years of dining out i never had this happen. is this all because she wanted a different side? with this i would not take exception to return, for the food was excellent and fair price
This place is a hidden gem. Great drinks and food. Great atmosphere as well. Go here!
Its our favorite Italian restaurant in Manhattan. We have been there with family and friends and they concur.
Food and staff were great.!
Wonderful food and service!
Sorry, the level of cocking was very poor, none professional.
We visited once before and all was very good. This second time though we thought the Lasagne was a bit dry. BUT this maybe how true Italians like theirs whereas we prefer it less dry.
Lovely authentic Italian, great service and fantastic tasting food just what we were looking for. Servings were generous and not overpriced.
Would recommend to anyone in the area.
Lamb chops were amazing 😋
This was our first time here & we thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was good & the manager or owner (not sure which) was very friendly and made us feel at home. The gnocchi was very good. My only recommendation is that they needed to serve olive oil with their delicious bread instead of just butter.
Terrible decision to come to work his place! Very tasteless parmigiana and fish smelled bad my wife didn’t even eat it, pour customer service from the manager!
Delicious gnocchi and manicotti, excellent service and relaxed atmosphere
Just a terrific little joint
Very quiet on a Sunday afternoon and we had a great meal and experience.
I didn't need a reservation because there were only 3 other tables when we arrived. The first thing I noticed about the restaurant was the odd smell. I wasn't sure if it was just me, but my husband agreed. The servers were very kind although perhaps a little distracted. We were a party of 4 sat at a table for 5 or 6 and while the person who sat us removed the extra settings, he didn't rearrange the settings that were left on the table. We also were sat near the door, which was odd being a cold day and having the rest of the restaurant (away from the door) available to sit in.
The food was fine, pretty equivalent to the prices, which for midtown Manhatten were great. The portions weren't huge, but that's ok. The decor was severely outdated and there were Christmas lights which seemed left over from the holiday but in a very haphazard type of way. The music was coming from YouTube playing on a TV from behind the bar. All in all, while prices and food were fine, the ambiance left much to be desired. With a little bit of energy, that could all be helped.
Prices are 25% higher than menu on Open Table and food was mediocre. Service was slow and we were very disappointed. Too many other restaurants to go than this one.
First, I am very disappointed that the restaurant reflected me as a "NO SHOW" when I expressly identified myself upon arrival and said I was there on a reservation.
Second, I was also disappointed by my food. I ordered a simple dish -- veal parmigiana and pasta. The veal seemed very old and was exceptionally tough. The sauce on the pasta was very mundane -- not flavorful.
Also, I was surprised by the choice of soup at an Italian restaurant -- New England clam chowder. Somehow I missed this at my Italian friends' mom's dinner. My guest and I passed. We were hoping from something more traditional.
The restaurant was an exceptionally good bargain for the neighborhood, however and our waiter was very friendly, although service was slow.
Unfortunately they allowed us to book a restaurant that was closed.
