Actually my reservation is at 7:15pm;however, when my mom and I got there, we waited 20min to sit beside the bar cuz there were 2 tables still staying. But the manager came to us for several time, made apologies for us and gave us some snacks!!! We were a little bit displeased at first, but the service was soooo good and several waitresses came to us and tried to explain and apologize! We felt much better!
The food is good! But it took us about 2hrs30min to finish the dinner!!!!
The Modern never ceases to amaze. An outstanding dinner and fabulous service.
3course meal that was outstanding. The portions were appropriate for the meal. The was innovative and expertly prepared. The wait staff were attentive.
Wonderful setting, excellent service. The creativity of the courses, the choices - even with the 3-course lunch, the quality of the ingredients, and the presentation- all superb.
My wallet cries, but my tastebuds dances. I like the no dress code policy. For those who have never been to a fancy restaurant, this is one less thing you have to worry about. Casual-fancy or business casual is perfectly fine. The food was delicious, the pacing was just right and the sommelier did a really good job recommending us non-wine drinkers something we’d like. Overall, I would definitely go again.
The restaurant is top notch in food, service, but, in my opinion, it is too expensive for the value you receive.
Just amazing from start to finish
Great evening of dining with fantastic food and attentive staff. David our Captain and Steve our waiter were both charming and efficient! Look forward to returning soon!
Food and service were top notch. Eggs, eggs, eggs dish was incredible.
The food was superb, creative, so full of flavor and combinations of herbs/meat and vegies. The customer service was the best I have experienced any in the country. Our main person was full of knowledge of the dishes, how they were prepared and selection of cocktail/wine.
Very nice place for business lunch. Quite and no one is trying to upsale.
Simply outstanding! An excellent meal, full of pleasant surprises.
Belle table au Moma. Service très bien, et compris !
No hay mejor restaurante en New York
Everything was superb. My hat is off to Brian for a masterful orchestration in the dining room.
Food and service at our table was great as expected. However the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because as we walked into the main dining room there were 2 staff members at different points who ignored me completely and only greeted my husband with “good evening sir” despite the fact that they saw me too as I walked in first. I would never expect this from a Danny Meyer establishment. In my past experience, service is usually exceptional all around. How am I less deserving than my husband of a simple greeting or acknowledgement because I’m a woman and/or non-white? This put a very bad taste in my mouth to say the least.
An unforgettable experience. The food was outstanding!
I took a wonderful friend here to celebrate her birthday. Yes, it is a splurge, but well worth every penny.
We had the three course lunch, each trying different things and all the food was imaginative, beautifully prepared, lively, bright flavors. The service was excellent; someone heard me wishing my friend happy birthday and they prepared a lovely birthday treat for her. We enjoyed a truly memorable meal.
Tasting menu only, with three chosen course, two additional courses, and several little things. Very very good, but also fantastically expensive.
We were in the dining room.
I tend to judge a restaurant by the memorability of the food. That is, when I look back on it, do I smile and remember specific dishes and taste the food again in my mind. By this standard, The Modern was definitely great. It's crazy expensive, but: 1) egg on egg on egg - fantastic looking, very rich - a yolk, caviar, egg custard and don't ask me what else served in an egg dish. Truthfully not the kind of thing I'd go hankering back for, but very good and I 'll never forget it. Best caviar preparation I've ever had. 2) a small butternut squash round with a crispy sweet topping served with a froth with truffle. Oh my goodness..exceptional. I like meat, but I could have a meal of this. And speaking of meat, 3) I had the suckling pig. Tender, moist, flavorful, crispy rind and a perfect jus that I just had to use my bread to finish. I'm not sure it could have been prepared more perfectly. 4) Crazy little thing, a pretzel croissant with mustard butter. Soft and subtle and flavorful not overpowered by the mustard. Surprisingly memorable. Dessert for me was a pear something that was very nice, light, refreshing and sweet and a perfect finish for me. I was not knocked out by the accompanying green tea ice cream, but the pear thing was great.
The Prixe fix included six total rounds. Others included a lobster dish and a potato soup. Both very good, but likely over time I will not remember them. that said, two days later I at least remember what they were. Most places I can't remember the next morning. My wife's tenderloin was great. Her salad good.
Service was perfect. Friendly, always there, but not overwhelming. Knowledgeable. They gave us a little visit to the kitchen (impressive) when we inquired about how they manage the dining room vs the bar.
Worth the Michelin 2 stars and a visit for a special occasion or a really good night out before the theatre. A little too expensive for me to become a regular visitor.
The food is spectacular but it is very slow .
Almost 3 hours for lunch?!
That’s a bit too much even for European standards
Phantastical; it was a high level experience, not only for the elegant venue and the elegant Scuplture Garden outside, but also for the sublime food and the outstanding service.
Not for the gluten free option that's for sur, the bread was just a piece of butter !
Nice moment for us , we wanted to be in special place and we red good critics but very very cold welcome when we arrived so atmosphere a little bit spoiled by this not very nice woman at the entrance, its a shame !
Good place but it miss some soul ...
A great experience! All delicious
Thank you. Gracias por la cena
Loved everything about this restaurant- food, service, ambiance! Very “modern” but not pretentious!
We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary there. Fantastic meal. Every dish was outstanding. Service fantastic, Steve in particular.
Mind blowing experience !!!
Everything is arranged like a ballet concert.
The servers glide around the restaurant while bringing the food to the table.
The 3 course pre fixed for lunch is a hit.
Ordered with the wine pairing which was a really good call.
The sommelier came to the table and explained with great details the wines served.
For certain will add it to our must visit again list in our next visit to NY.
Great food, great service, great environment. I had a wonderful time.
The tasting menu is divine!
We came for honeymoon and it was spectacular experience in The Mordern.
Congratulations to the Executive Chef and all the staff of The Modern , everything was espectacular!! The creative dishes , the presentations , the high quality ingredients everything was like a perfect simphony, my family and I enjoyed it a lot , when we comeback to NY we will go again !!
this was not a meal it was an experience - the food was exquisite and amazing. only complaint is that the sommelier was a little lacking, my partner ordered the wine pairing and it felt a bit lazy when he gave her a wine that I initially refused and then a glass of the one I did order......it seems very odd that those were the exact wines he chose when there is such a huge selection.......for an $800 meal I would expect more
Great restaurant, in outstanding location. Nice service great experience!
This is one of the best meals we've ever had. We enjoy tasting menus and have been to other Michelin star restaurants. Everything about the meal was wonderful from impeccable service to perfect wine pairings. We will definitely return!
Food. In the top ten of anyplace I’ve ever dined
Amazing food, outstanding service. When our waiter, Jeremy heard that thru a problem with their reservation system, I wasn’t seated in the Kitchen as requested. He moved us in there after the 1 st seating was done so we could enjoy our dessert in there. The Modern made for a memorable birthday meal- we Will be back!
Incredible anniversary dinner
My wife and I come to NYC to enjoy the arts, which includes fine dining. The restaurant was very accommodating as we got stuck in Sat night traffic and we were 30 minutes late but we only had to wait a few minutes for our table. Innovative presentation on many dishes with wonderful and complimentary flavors made this a hit for us! Service was spot on...spacing was good and atmosphere was casual and comforting. As with any restaurant of this intent, some dishes were a huge hit for us (Egg on egg on egg, the duck, and dessert) while others were so-so (but still delicious). We ate in the Dining Room but look forward to coming back to eat at The Bar on subsequent trips! Highly recommended.
