Absolute top class meal. Always up to the highest standard. None of the other people at lunch had been before and were bowled over. Will always come back.
-Food: We tried the 6 course tasting menu for lunch along with a couple of cocktails. The meals were made with our dietary restrictions in mind. The flavors and presentation, as well as the fresh ingredients were exquisite!
-Service: Lovely and attentive staff members and well-paced service. This is a no tipping restaurant, which makes the service feel more genuine.
Excellent experience for enjoing dinner and wine
Utterly exquisite on every level. The staff could not have been more attentive and helpful and the food was utterly divine
One of the best meals I have ever enjoyed. We chose 4 items and the chef chose at least 3... the sommelier was amazingly helpful and spot on. The service was impeccable. Fun team! Loved it and will return.
Everything was on equal footing of superb Excellence. A Truly outstanding culinary experience from top to bottom. An oasis in midtown Manhattan with soothing views of the tranquil MoMA sculpture garden. The service by the ultra professional staff was heart warming presenting delightful, supreme, appetizing, well prepared, enticing culinary preparations along with exquisite pairings. I’m planning with ardor my next Modern experience.
The Modern was a great experience for lunch. The service was very attentive. The pauses in between dishes were a bit long but I was also hungry. Three courses is very adequate and fulfilling. I will definitely be back for the dinner menu at some stage.
What an incredible experience! We celebrated our anniversary here and they made us feel welcome in every single detail. The food was beyond words, an experience we won’t forget. Thank you for everything!
Outstanding! We ordered the 6 courses, so the chef chooses (and worked around my gluten allergy). Every dish was more magnificent than the prior one. The aesthetics were spot on for an art museum setting. The dishes, cups, etc. were all works of art as was the presentation of each dish. My favorite thing of all, for as busy as the place was, the wait staff was so fine tuned that we felt like the only guests there. We were able to relax and enjoy. It was THE BEST restaurant experience ever! Thanks for spoiling us! You really made us feel special.
Superb!! Worth visiting.
I had looked forward to having lunch with a visiting friend from Los Angeles. The only admirable thing I can say about this entire event that the waiter was charming. One had a choice of a 3 prefix choice lunch or a six course prefix. Although charming to look at the food was horrible. I noticed a rather large amount of gentlemen dining and was surprised that they would be satisfied with the tiny sizes of each dish. I am a small eater so size did not bother me, but the only thing worth eating was the bread. My dessert, carrot cake consisted of a sliver of carrot over sorbet. My scallops were tasteless and I had to hunt for the pieces of asparagus.
Loved the ambiance and service and the food was delicious. Was not aware it was Pix Fixe and expensive do my group had sticker shock. That said, once we settled in it was truly wonderful experience.
As good as it gets. Hard to imagine a better dinner.
The Modern is a beautiful tribute to food and artistry. Paula, Jackson, Dimir, and Emerson were all amazing. Thank you for this experience!
We had a wonderful experience at our Mother’s Day lunch. The service was outstanding and extremely personable and friendly. They really went out of their way to make my wife and daughter in law feel special. The food as usual was also outstanding.
Perfect place for a great celebration and great food
What an incredible experience! The food was absolutely amazing from the presentation to the pallet. The flavour combinations were bold but incredible together. The imagination and preparation behind every ingredient on each plate really shows the unbelievable talent of the chef and kitchen staff. The service was incredible! The whole service team works together to ensure you are well taken care of with out every feeling like you are being over served. Every person that visited our table were very kind and knowledgeable. Hats off to the sommelier as the wine pairings where spot on and we were presented with 7 different varietals. Don’t skip out on the cheese cart either! The selection of cheeses is a tip of the hat to local artisan cheese makers and offers an incredible variety of flavours, textures and ingredient blends. Being from Canada it was a great opportunity to embrace the artisanal cheese culture the surrounding area has to offer. Thank You to The Modern staff for an unforgettable night out!
A bit noisy from the other side (we were in the fine dining area)
But not a problem for me.
A very very nice experience!
Notes of dill and acid are too strong in so many dishes, and soooo five years ago. Duck and beef dishes were good. Everything else is garbage.
Perfect service! Delicious food
The presentation matches the museum...artistic at all levels.
Outstanding experience in food and service - excellent
At the price of the menu de dégustation and with two Michelin stars, I believe that one's expectations can legitimately be quite high. Mine were not met, in view of the preceding. The food was outstanding, but a few things were "off." I was overcharged $10 for the wine pairings, which is strange, because I can't imagine that the waiters enter in the numbers one by one for each bill, but rather press on a key labelled "wine pairing." I paid $12.00 for sparkling water, yet midway through the meal, my glass was filled with normal flat water. My partner and I ordered the tasting menu, but never received the final service, which we only noticed once we verified the menus that were given to us at the end of the meal and that we looked at later. The service was perfunctory at best, and both my partner and I had the impression that the staff was anxious to go home near the end of our meal, and it was only about 10:30.
Unfortunately, a very slow dinner, almost four hours.
Superb food and service. The fact that service was included in the price was a breath of fresh air compared to the usual demands (almost literally) for outrageously high service charges.
The seven course dinner was good for myself and my girl friend. The wine was nice. The atmosphere was modern. The view could be better because of cloudy day. Overall, a nice restaurant. Will go again
Everything was perfect. The service is very nice. Each plate is visually wonderful and so tasty. It is right that it's quite expensive but the quality is here.
If you are a gourmet who loves art, it's the great place.
This dinning experience is very much like its fellow museum’s modern art experience, not for everyone, definitely not me, and I myself am an artist as well as a somewhat a food connoisseur. Just like modern art, the food in The Modern is overpriced for what it is, unpalatable to most expect the seekers of the avant-garde (and those would have to be from the 20s), and entirely trying too hard in perhaps just one or two of its flavors, namely for our dinner, saltiness and sourness, which basically overpowered all other ingredients used. Those two flavors were as powerful and unbalanced as the colors of the picasso’s painting and maybe those dishes might be better received upstairs in the white cubes.
Kind staffs, excellent view of the MOMA's scalpture garden and amazing cuisine. (It was a little bit salty for me.) Should pair their glasses of wine collection.
Perfect!! Well done!! Came after the walking the gallery and the food was perfect to cap off a great day
Absolutely hands-down my favorite restaurant in New York City every time I come to the city I come to this restaurant ....,seven course meal was to die for
Food was so delicious it brought me to actual tears at times! Staff was happy to explain everything on the menu multiple times. It’s business casual which made for a much more enjoyable dinner. Fiona was great server! Great place to go as a solo diner, they made me feel very welcome.
Amazing upscale dining with impeccable service. Very creative dishes from starters to dessert. Friendly knowledgeable wait staff including sommeliers. Outstanding wine list. Great for relaxed dining, Casual dress code but the experience is enhanced if one dresses up a bit! Highly recommended!
I expected more from a 2 Michelin star place . I would give this place no star, average food .
Food was on salty side . We were seated at 9.20pm , food came out so slow that we were falling asleep around 11.40pm waiting for last course dessert , and it was not what we ordered .
They offer tasting menu with 4 courses of your choice and they give 3 more in between , 7 in total . The 3 they offer kind of nothing as if they laugh at you .
It is way over priced for what it is . 2 people with food tips and drinks close to $700 rip off. Not worth it. Go somewhere else .
A great experience for the cooking and the ambiance, andin addition a perfect way to take a break during the museum visit.
Perfect dinner date. Great sommelier.
If you are already familiar with the world of multiple Michelin-starred restaurants then you can skip this review. However if you are a neophyte (like myself) perhaps you'll find this helpful.
We came for dinner @ 7:30 PM. The staff were attentive and we were seated pretty quickly. The vibe of the dining area was very nice - quiet, classy but not overly formal/stuffy. Getting a seat with a clear view of the sculpture garden was very nice (put in a request when booking through OpenTable).
The tasting menu was billed as seven courses, four of which you can choose. There were some additional extra "bites" which were great complements to the meal. We enjoyed all the courses but the highlights were definitely the tuna tartare, the beef w/ morel mushrooms, the dry aged duck, and the lychee ice cream w/ passionfruit meringue. Unbelievable seasoning and tenderness in the meat. Perhaps the most playful/experimental courses were the eggs three ways and this sort of asparagus/cheese sabayon/broth combination. But I really appreciated that we could tell we were eating well prepared, natural food throughout and not anything particularly experimental. There were definitely some very rich bites but the portion size was calibrated well so you never started to feel uncomfortable. Espresso and sparkling wine also were top notch.
Final notes - the servers really knew their stuff and were very professional and friendly, which is always a plus. The whole dinner lasted ~3 hours, so keep it in mind if you are booking later in the evening. Overall I'd definitely recommend this place for special occasions (I'd say it's priced appropriately), would love to come back sometime in the future.
