The Marlborough Tavern
Food is essentially, though not slavishly, English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. Its food reputation is matched by their service - always friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and there's an extensive wine list and selection of local ales to choose from. The Marlborough's pub garden is arguably Bath’s finest; a walled courtyard space, that’s perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.
Visited from out of town and enjoyed a really impressive veggie curry, and fish and chips (lovely chunk fish, great crispy chips and proper mushy peas).
Warmly welcomed, good vibe with a mixed crowd, we went back the next day for drinks.
Our memory of Marlborough Tavern has always been excellent, however having not visited for a while, we were on this occasion a little disappointed.
The food was average. For example, the pastry on the Spring Rolls was stodgy and the Lamb Burger was fine but nothing more and expensive for what it was.
We have always thoroughly enjoyed the our previous visits, but this time the food was not as good as we remember.
Since the Chequers shut in Bath this is our go-to gastro boozer. And what a beautiful walk to get there round the Crescent!
Excellent service and food with great value for money
Fish and chips was poor - fish was tasteless and a very thin piece
Veg Curry was very mild and uninspiring
Burger was good
Considering this is a 'sister' pub to Hare & Hounds, the food falls a long way behind
Comfortable, friendly environment, and a varied menu including both pub standards and "new" cuisine. We enjoyed the vegetarian Indian curry and the wild mushroom risotto, as well as the local ciders.
We love the pub, its a great local, the staff are fantastic, but the food has been very low quality recently, and poor value for money. Our last meal has made me not want to eat there again.
Great food, relaxing atmosphere. Dog friendly, what more can you ask for!
Lovely food and the service was very good. I particularly liked the pakora starter.
I'm definitely giving 5 stars. But with a couple of comments (hopefully constructive). After two visits in 3 days, both times the delicious oxcheek balls were definitely not in the shape of a croquette, nor hot in the middle (hence the need for the shape of a croquette). And the seafood mixed grill was perfectly cooked, but £22 for 2 very small bits of fish and one delicious scallop was a bit punchy. If I could have paid £27 for double, I would have been gushing right now, and you still would have made good profit.
Definitely coming back. Hoping to see how my GF yorkshire pudding recipe is being used
I love this place - they SO deserve the Bath Award (again?). The food is always consistent.
We must have booked this place about 20 times by now. Which should tell you all you need to know.
Felt the food was okay but not where it has been on previous visits. Restaurant had a couple of raucous tables in, not the fault of the restaurant but still a bit of a pain nonetheless.
Friendly, good food and service. Tables well spaced and attractive place
Excellent, high quality gastro pub food, great friendly service
Great food, friendly staff and great service. Highly recommended!!!
We were greeted warmly arriving early for our meal on a very wet day. Our food was good, we liked the atmosphere and background music which was quiet enough to make conversation easy, we had an enjoyable evening. Only minuses were the draught of every time the door was opened and the loos which were a bit grubby.
Really lovely pub, great food & dog friendly throughout
Charles Dickens ate here!! Truly lovely ambiance...food was great-get the pudding...might be best dessert ever.
We were really looked after here and, at short notice, they gave us our first Valentine’s meal, serving up Prosecco to begin with.
Food and service was great, highly recommend for lunch or dinner
Had a cosy table for two by the fire. Food was really good, as it always is! Great wine selection and wait staff were attentive but not overbearing. Would highly recommend
Easily our favourite pub for lunch in Bath
It was really easy to book a table online, and someone called to confirm the next morning. Service was excellent throughout. Food was delicious and filling. Could not fault!
Really delicious food (especially the “proper chips”) staff are really friendly and attentive & the place has a lovely cosy feel. Would definitely recommended!
The Marlborough has been a go to for us over the years we have visited Bath and we have never yet been let down by them. This time was with a group for Sunday lunch and they dealt with various food issues patiently as well as juggling numbers twice in advance! Always a pleasure.
Good food, discreet efficient very friendly service, and best of all could have a conversation with my guests.
Lovely pub, lovely food service could be better, location is great
Gorgeous Sunday roast. Food and service was great. We'll definitely be back.
The food was lovely. The only small complaint was that my husband had the roast chicken. The meat he had on his plate was such a small portion. Only comparing to other Sunday roast dinners that we have received. The Yorkshire pudding however was huge so if they can reduce the size of that and put a bit more meat on the plate then that would take the food to an excellent. Thanks
We regularly have family celebrations here and just love it. Sunday lunch is fantastic and the service great. However, on this last visit this Sunday for a 17th birthday treat, all our food (except the non roast choice) was served cold! It was, of course, replaced though inevitably we ended up eating after one of the party had finished. The meal was missing cauli cheese that was billed on the menu, we asked we where this was and the waitress churlishly told us it would be 'underneath' - it wasn't so we again asked for it and this time it was served separately. Two of us ordered cheese following the main course and this came without one of the 3 billed cheeses ... For the most part the staff were great at sorting, particularly our main waitress and the man who sorted out the missing stuff but I have to say it certainly marred the 17th birthday. Teenage kids really find it uncomfortable when their parents 'complaining'.
Excellent meal and service. Very high standard as usual. So good we’ve booked for February.
Delightful attentive staff serving top class fish& chips.
I’ve been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience - the food and service is always great.
Delicious traditional roasts, succulent beef with all the trimmings. I prefer my gravy served separately and I am not a fan of spiced red cabbage with beef - hence my score of 4 rather than 5 stars.
Very nice food and a good atmosphere. The service was friendly and helpful. Would go there again.
Our first visit to the Marlborough. Nice to have good service that isn't intrusive. We all really enjoyed our food and it was very reasonable for Bath. Pleasantly warm, enough space between tables to offer some privacy and no unpleasant noise from sound bouncing off hard surfaces.
Really enjoyed our visit. Food was great and it was really relaxing. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious
