The Greenfield Restaurant
Let me start out by saying that this was our first visit to this restaurant since the change of ownership. We frequently dined at this restaurant under the former ownership.
Despite booking this reservation 1 week in advance, we waited 20 minutes to be seated at table in a noisy bar area and asked to be moved to an area where our party could talk. There was an additional 10 minute wait for a table to be cleared. We were taken to a room on the 2nd floor which was cold, had no background music and looked a mess because 8 table needed to be cleaned from the previous guests. When we left 2 hours later, 3 tables were still pot cleaned. The menu prices at this establishment are not in line with this lack luster atmosphere.
With respect to the food, our party of 4 ordered the soup of the day which was a seafood chowder. When it arrived the soup was cold. It took quite a while to find someone who could correct the situation. When we finally received our meals, the presentation was not good and the crab cake were browned too long and the fingerling potato that accompanied it appeared to be over baked oven fried potatoes that you would expect with breakfast and not a $32 crab cake dinner. The vegetables were also cold and no tarter sauce was provided on the plate and the server never asked if we wanted any. When we finally found someone to assist they said they would send the manager and this took another 15 minutes. The manager was very apologetic and said that this was not how our food should have been served. He also gave us a gift certificate to return after the holidays so that we could have relaxing dining experience.
I am hopeful that our return experience to this restaurant is better than what occurred today.
Not only great menu selections but great food and presentation. The atmosphere is top notch!!
Christmas celebration with friends- lovely atmosphere and good food- just a little loud where we were seated. Normally not a problem but we were seated over the first floor on the balcony.
Lobster tail, crab cake, filet, pork chop well prepared. Good wine list. Mashed potatoes Luke warm. Veggie side small and salad okay but unremarkable. Service seemed stressed and impatient.
Other than being a little chilly, everything was perfect! The food was amazing, (especially the quiche), we were not rushed, service was great! Will definitely go back when visiting the area.
Our group of 6 had a great evening of jazz and food. OK, my salmon was a bit dry, but easily overlooked because of the overall positive experience. The staff seated us as requested. Having forgotten to ask for split checks, they accommodated us with a sincere smile and never skipped a beat.
First time visiting. The food was outstanding. Highly recommend the South African Lobster tail. The proportions were on the mark, service was prompt and attentive, and the price was reasonable for high end casual dining. Will definitely visit again.
A few vacation days in Lancaster. We’ve been coming to the greenfield restaurant and bar for over 30 years. The food was terrific. With the exception of the crab cakes which were cool inside. Lamb tenderloin was terrific
We had a wonderful meal and plan to return when we visit the Lancaster area.
We are never disappointed
Wonderful meal! Wonderful wine!
I took my daughter for her birthday. We were greeted right away by a nice gentlemen and seated at very nice table for two. Our server Lynda was very pleasant and attentive throughout our dining experience. The Bloody Mary and Expresso Martini were a great way to start out our brunch. The food was high quality and prepared perfectly. I give our over all experience a five.
I made a reservation for a standard table and was shown to a high-top. The standard table we were lead to was fine, but the place settings were not arranged properly. The host said we could move them if we wanted to!
The waitress was fine.
I got the scallops. They were cooked very nicely, but the "risotto" was terrible. Tasted like poorly seasoned instant rice.
I mentioned it to the waitress and she said she would tell the kitchen. They had changed the presentation to reflect the season. If this passed the taste test for a new recipe, something is seriously wrong in the kitchen.
For the price point and reputation of the chef/owner, I was expecting a much better experience. Not fine dining.
Everything was delicious and the live jazz music was a great addition to the evening.
Service was a little slow but we were visiting with friends so it was ok. Food was great and service attentive. We will return.
I would recommend the Greenfield Restaurant to anyone visiting Lancaster County. I love Amish country but can't stand the food at most restaurants and was so happy to find this place years ago. Greenfield is a lovely restaurant w/a menu with something for everyone. My husband had the prime rib and it was a big piece of beef and very tender.
Great atmosphere and food. I would definitely go back.
Dinner was delicious and the service was terrific. My wife and I tasted a little bit of each other's food, so we both agreed each of our selections was very good indeed. If you ask about the White House china in the entryway, you will find that the chef was formerly the personal chef for two U.S. presidents.
Greenfield Inn is a longtime Lancaster County fine-dining establishment that has been reliable for years, and this continues under the latest owners. Food is competently prepared and tasty, and the menu is interesting and appropriate for a restaurant of this caliber. At this family lunch, I had their delicious and flavorful tomato bisque, and a burger, perfectly prepared at medium rare. Others at the table were similarly pleased with their food.
On this review, I rated service as "good." Our server was competent, friendly and helpful, and she did a nice job of managing the table of six adults and one infant. The middle rating comes from the fact that I made the reservation on OpenTable within an hour of the time, which was showing as available on line. When we got to the restaurant, the front of house was surprised to see us, and not prepared. This is the second time it's happened here, and we were made to feel slightly unwelcome at first. Though they were able to accommodate us both times, this is the only place I've ever had that happen, and only recently here. Throughout our lunch, plenty of tables were available, so I was surprised at the initial reaction to our reservation. I suggest keeping a closer eye on the reservation system, or set it so that times show as unavailable a little further out if that's not doable.
With that said, don't hesitate to go to Greenfield Inn for delicious food in a classic atmosphere, in a beautiful part of the world. A personal favorite of mine due to our long history together, Greenfield Inn continues to serve Lancastrians and tourists alike, in its classic, upscale fashion.
Perfect place to celebrate my mother’s 92 birthday. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. We’ve never been disappointed. The chef even wished my mother a happy birthday.
It was wonderful being able to take my 89 year old father to brunch at what has been one of our family's favorite restaurants in the area. We enjoyed being there and the food/menu was great!!
This place is always top notch. The food is delicious and impeccably prepared. The atmosphere is lovely and service was very good as well. We had a large group of 7 some who never experienced the PA Dutch area and being from NYC truly enjoyed the food, service and the interesting story of the chef. Will definitely come back again.
Excellent. Nice setting and fantastic food
We visit The Greenfield whenever we are in Amish Country and have never been disappointed. This time we dined mid-week so the dining area was relatively quiet and moderately full. The sweet potato soup was delicious and the salads which come with the meals are nice. The crab cakes are generously stuffed with basically only crab meat-YUM. The herb lamb was cooked as requested and was tasty and tender enough to cut with a fork. The portions are good. The vegetables were the only disappointing part of the meal, little taste and some were overcooked and others undercooked. If you have any room left for dessert you will most likely not be disappointed. I noted on the Open Table reservation that it was our anniversary and both the host and server wished us a Happy Anniversary. Overall the quality and quantity are in line with the cost of the food.
Our Waiter was excellent and the host was very good and very nice. It has a nice atmosphere. Disappointed with the food, though. What we ordered was not very good. Ordered salad with shrimp. Super small salad for 25.00 and the shrimp was awful. Although the entrees other people ordered looked good.
I like the venue a lot and also thought the food was outstanding. If I am in Lancaster again I would recommend this restaurant.
Chef Moeller, staff and family make every visit a memorable experience.
Great ambience and service. Calamari and the salmon special were outstanding. The crab cakes had more filling than expected but were okay. Sadly, we did not have room for dessert. It's a true gem of a restaurant.
Love the atmosphere and the food was excellent! Service was top notch.
Wonderful evening on the patio. The food and value is good but the patio is what keeps us coming back!
Top notch restaurant when visiting Lancaster County, PA. High quality gourmet meals excellently prepared. Great, varied menu selection. This restaurant is consistently good. This is our "go to" restaurant when going to a performance at Sight and Sound Theater (as is staying at the Hurst House B & B).
We had a reservation and noted we had 3 young children and requested to be away from others so we didn’t disturb them. They seated us in the middle of everyone, much to everyone’s dismay. Two of us ordered the quiche of the day but were served a different one - the waitress was annoyed that the kitchen didn’t tell her and even more annoyed that we didn’t eat it. I ordered the chicken and cashew salad instead - it was so bland. Two others ordered the same meal and it came out very differently. Overall it was a very disappointing, inconsistent experience.
Just comment, while I can’t complain about the quality of the food or the service, our hostess INSiSTED we had to be seated at a high top table in the bar because we had made reservations late
However, we arrived, there were many empty tables and when we left there were still many open tables both inside and outside
Very frustrating to have to be seated in one of the few high tops while there were so many standard tables available
Next time I will request confirmation of seating before going there
An otherwise pleasant evening was spoiled by an arbitrary decision of the hostess
The setting of this restaurant is very nice. However we ordered appetizer plates which we felt were way overpriced for four pieces of cheese, sparse fresh fruit and thin sliced bread.
No lumps of crab meat in either crab cake and whipped potatoes were Luke warm. The green beans were excellent. The salmon in my wife’s beet salad was very gamy and barely warm. The drinks were a little over priced compared to similar restaurants.
The wait staff was very attentive and responsive.
Overall, the restaurant is a bit pricey considering the food quality.
Was nothing like my first two experiences there which were great and why I brought my father there for the first time for his birthday. We will not come back. The service was bad and the food it's not like it used to be.
The food we had was amazing, restaurant was very clean. The main problem was the hostess was not very pleasant, was very short with us, and basically ask if we had a reservation and then said follow me. We went upstairs and sat at a table and she cleared 2 other settings from our table. She didn't say anything else. The waitress came to take our drink order and I ask if there was a drink list and she was very short and said right here and pointed to a menu on the other side of the table. From then on she was very rude with us and seemed the same with other patrons as well, ither tables were making comments also. The guys who were refilling water glasses were amazing. Sarah P if you see this you should find a job you like.
Food and service was fantastic. Crab cake was delicious. The pork chop was exceptional.
Always enjoy the food at Greenfield. Love the patio dining
I really could not say. We had reservations and never got served because accordingly they were short on help. We sat for almost 20 minutes before we even got a glass of water. The waitress said she would be back in 5 min to take our order and the food would not take long to come out. Another 15 minutes went buy no waitress. After 1/2 hour no ice tea, no food ordered, no waitress attention we left. Plus the pictures on the web and open table are deciving menu has nothing even close to that except maybe the ceaser salad.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at the Greenfield Inn! It was highly recommended to us by friends in the area who told us that this was the best restaurant in Lancaster County! Our recommendation to make the experience a total 5 Star experience, would be to either offer additional training to the hostess, or find another hostess! We both found her to be rather rude, and not a warm and friendly person! I say that because I had requested to be seated outside when I made our reservation. The hostess escorted us upstairs, not mentioning anything about outside, and when I mentioned it, she just gruffly said, we're not seating anyone outside! Not the type of person to welcome you to your establishment! We also had mentioned in our Open Table reservation, that we would be celebrating a birthday. That information did not make it to our waitress!?!
