It was a wonderful experience
I was thrilled that this visit delivered what has become the accustomed high-standard, widely imaginative, country-side cooking based on seasonal game/fish & ingredients
We have always had lovely food at the Greene Oak but unfortunately on this occasion the food was not the normal taste and quality. We returned one fish dish as it tasted and smelled very strange. Two of the other 3 diners felt their food was disappointing. One guest who had plaice was very happy.
Food was outstanding. Staff were both friendly and professional. Relaxed atmosphere and yet it was well organised and efficient.
Will definitely be going back.
Birthday dinner with the family
Amazing food, delicious starters followed by exquisite mains and sumptuous sides! The recommended wine was superb...
The restaurant looks very nice and the staff are very welcoming. The menu was was very much over the top though (trying too hard). My meal was tasteless and the portion sizes for all 7 of us was small especially for the prices.
We had a lovely meal. The staff were attentive and helpful. Would recommend!
Great service, great food and plenty of it. The pub was very busy including with young families but we shown to a quiet table in the corner. I assume as we didn't have kids. So we had the best of both, being in a vibrant pub but in a corner where we could chat away to each other.
Lovely Sunday lunch...great staff and ambience. Will definatly be back!
Lovely place. Fantastic staff. Great atmosphere. Excellent bar staff. Wide choice of drinks. Superb menu. Will return.
Very friendly staff and fab food! will hopefully go back soon..
Excellent pub with extremely helpful staff and wonderful food. We have eaten here many times, and it has never let us down. Delicious and well worth it.
We used to go to Greene Oak often but with the prior managment from today, we felt the quality had gone downhill and the prices stayed the same or higher. Each of our meals under the current management and chef was very nice and well presented. The service was good and it was a nice atmosphere.
Food was so tasty but for the price I do think the mains should be served with vegetables not have to purchase these separately.
A delightful find. Small but perfect menu. Plenty of vegetarian food - never tasted cauliflower so delicious. Some unusual but not too unusual choices. Great atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend. My only problem was that it was a bit cold.
We had dinner here recently and it's one of our favourite restaurants. The food is outstanding and the service by our waiter Chris was second to none. I would highly recommend for lunch or dinner any time.
A must go to in Berkshire The Green Oak is a slice of Mayfair in the country without the Mayfair price tag. Wonderful ambience, charming staff, excellent Chef, decent wine list and delicious cocktails.
I booked this meal for my husband’s birthday, it was enjoyable and very good quality! We shall return.
Fantastic Sunday lunch as usual!
A lovely evening at The Greene Oak. The food was absolutely superb, the service was quick and friendly.
The general ambience of the place is lovely and cosy. We had the daily special; roe deer with juniper gravy, which has got to be one of the best dishes we've tasted! Would highly recommend The Greene Oak to anybody, we will be definitely be back again!
We had read very good reviews of the Greene Oak though we did not have a clear idea what to expect. The food was interesting and generally good, from an unusual, imaginative but slightly limited menu. Prices were pretty reasonable and the service was competent.
The general appearance of the pub interior and dining room wasn't special and the low ceilings and hard floors made it very noisy despite not being particularly full. Visually somehow it reminded me of a 1980s Berni Inn (showing my age!)...maybe that was the 'ironic' intention?
So despite being an interesting visit, I don't think I'd add it to my list of regular local places to eat.
Visited here many times always had a great meal and great service will continue booking probably one of the best steaks ever. Well done to the staff and chefs.
Excellent. Better than it used to be. Give it a try.
Friendly and professional service in a nice atmosphere. Good food but not particularly generous portions. Considering you have to pay for vegetables as a side, or a sauce for the steak, plus (optional,I think) service charge, it‘s rather expensive.
We had the set lunch menu, excellent food at a very reasonable price. Generous portions,
we will certainly go again
Lovely venue and fabulous food. Friendly service too.
Lovely meal, great value and friendly/professional service.
Would highly recommend.
Welcoming & attentive staff, plus consistently imaginative in it's menu choice - a great gastropub!
Fabulous food, wine and service, a must if you are in the area
Absolutely outstanding food, lovely staff and a beautiful venue. The menu is entirely seasonal and local and was genuinely one of the nicest meals I’ve ever had. Already planning to go back, despite living nowhere near! 10/10
Really loved the Greene Oak. We ate there for Valentines evening and had asked for a table out of the way and they obliged by giving us lovely corner window table.
The staff were friendly and obliging. The food arrived quite quickly which I liked as I was hungry but it may arrive too quickly for those wishing to make an extended occasion out of their evening.
The menu was varied and imaginative and it was really hard setting on only one starter and main. Both were incredible. My starter of Hampshire Trout was a lovely balance of flavours and textures. My main of Roe Deer and side of parsnip gratin was gorgeous!
I’ll just have to return to sample the rest of the menu!
Place where really nice and perfect for a occasion. Some food where super nice but other not so.
Overall very pleasant evening.
We had a lovely dinner there on a Friday night & went back for Sunday lunch it was so nice.
The service was great too.
Would definitely recommend!
Lovely evening with excellent service and fabulous food
Lovely food and service. Was a great lunch, thank you!
First visit here. Good choices on lunch menu, and food high quality - except battered fish arrived slightly
undercooked. that was immediately replaced and cost of coffees taken off the bill. Pleasant friendly service
Nice enough pub - nothing remarkable. Sunday roast was extremely bland
Yes but..........I felt that the Sunday roast dinner was on a par with a Beefeater. Tough potatoes, huge uninteresting Yorkshire pud, un exciting carrots, the beef was good though.
Bake well tart was ok but couldn't find the Cranberries.
We had a great evening with friends. The food was excellent; well presented, extremely tasty and a varied menu. The atmosphere was great. The service was friendly and timely (just one small hiccup).
