The Crown at Bray
The Crown has a genuine old English pub feel, low beams, friendly atmosphere, interesting menu with a few surprises and presumably Heston’s take on some pub classics. Highly recommended
A lovely Sunday lunch
Needed a decent local place to take visiting friends, so it was a great chance to try the Crown which has been on the to-do list for a while. We were seated in a nice, quieter area away from the bar which was perfect for dinner. Welcome and service was warm and friendly, seated immediately and offered water whilst we selected drinks.
Wine menu is extensive and reasonably priced, a slight shame that they had very low stock on the wine we were most interested in, but we just sampled a few different wines during the evening instead.
Food was sublime, particularly the Tomahawk Steak that two of us shared. The group all reported excellent meals. Cheeseboard slightly disappointing value for money, but nice nonetheless.
Overall a really enjoyable evening, fantastic food, wine and service. Can't wait to go back.
Very enjoyable Saturday lunch. Looking forward to our next visit.
Something has changed! Not necessarily for the better. The previously outstanding prwN cocktail has rather lost its twist. Presentation no longer special thanks to a change in stemware. Lettuce suffers as a consequence. The rib eye steak was truly excellent, a real triumph. The chunky chips and the fries were bothe very good, but what happened to the fish from the fish and chips. This was a standout, but the last couple of times it has been poor. The batter was floaty and brittle, lacking that all important mouth feel. The haddock inside was mediocre. A small piece that rather dried out. Not up to standard, despite it being a very quiet night.
What a great place and amazing food highly recommended to everyone if I was going to be real picky then the Yorkshires were a little greasy but the rest of the meal (3 course) was incredible
Fish and chips ok, too much mint in mushy peas. Risotto ok but at best a ten pound meal. 45 quid for proseco - complete rip off as well 19 quid for a coffee liqueur - and the 12.5 service charge is not required when u hike up the drinks prices like this. Great service , lovely waitress 10/10 for her. Value for money is poor - would recommend 10 others pubs which provide better food and reasonable prices
Amazing meal and lovely friendly staff. The food was really delicious and they mad us feel very special on our anniversary. Thank you so much.
I was really looking forward to this given that it has so many good reviews and is part of Heston's portfolio. It wasn't a terrible meal, but it wasn't great either. The fish and chips were overdone and I've had better finishes from the local take away. The cost is fine for the audience it is targeting, but i wasn't the only person walking out the door saying "It isn't good enough really" and "I'm not happy with that". Wouldn't be in a rush to go back for anything other than drinks
I took my parents for lunch at The Crown. The service was very poor, the waitress was not particularly friendly. The manager was very poor and unhelpful when getting my mum to the table. My lamb was raw, and sent back. The fish and chips I then ordered wasn’t even up to the standard of the local chip shop. The chips were awful! Even after complaining about the uncooked lamb shank, they still charged me for the fish n chips?! It would have been far more polite and courteous to not charge me. Extremely disappointed and definitely will not be going back, or indeed recommending to anyone.
I have been a regular lunch visitor to The Crown for several years (maybe once every two months). This time I booked through Open Table and specifically requested our usual Table 12. The booking was confirmed but when we arrives (2 of us) at 12.30 we were told the Table was reserved by someone else. We were put on a much smaller table. When we left at 2.15 the 'someone else' had still not arrived. To be fair, the barman apologised and said the bookers had just not turned up. The menu was certainly not as appealing as it used to be. What has happened to good pub food like steak and kidney puddung? This time I tried cauliflower pie - I won't make that mistake again, I had an upset tum for 24 hours.
Great sunday roast. Service was particularly nice and attentive. I will come back again and again.
We have been regular visitors to the Crown. Must say the food was not quite up to the usual standards. We all felt that way. Afterwards we found out it is no longer ipart of Heston’s group of restaurants and owned by an independent company, something that is not advertised.Disappointed to discover that.
A lovely cosy pub- the fact Heston has taken over definitely did not change the vibe of a local pub in my eyes. The Hind's head we went to before for a drink had a more boujee vibe, however The Crown at Bray was calm, warm and had a mix of customers.
Love this place. Never had a bad experience. Very consistent.
I had dinner with friends in the bar. The pub is very traditional and is welcoming and attractive. However the lighting in the corner table we were given was very dull. We had fish and chips, mushy peas. The portion size of the fish and chips was small. I complained but nothing was done - they said they would speak to the chef about it, but there was no response. I was still hungry so had a dessert, which was very good - Crewe brûlée.
It’s pricey. We each had one drink, a main and a dessert plus coffee. It cost £40 each including their discretionary service fee. Expensive night out.
Nice place, with a great ‘pub’ atmosphere. Good choice is very limited. Don’t need dozens and dozens of choices but the menu was a little limited and oddly for me personally not much jumped out as appealing. The food was cooked really well and was excellent quality. The staff were great and the value for money was good.
Never disappoints. Excellent food and service from Monica and the rest of the team. A firm family favourite
Very good food. Nice venue. Good service and gave my girlfriend birthday card and mini pudding as well which was unexpected.
Excellent meal and service
Myself and my guests were sat near the bar. Through out the whole evening we had a group of office/city workers swearing, raising their voices, ranting etc... right near us standing by the bar. The restaurant team should have done something about it (it was constantly obvious) it had a negative effect on the evening and needed to be dealt with. If I was with my family and not with clients/guests I would have dealt with it myself. No one would want their children or partners to hear what we were hearing. A poor experience considering the expected quality of the Crown.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere lovely pub with outstanding service, always enjoy visiting the crown
Good food, wine and beer. Fish and chips is a signature dish, chips and batter were superb the fish not quite in the same league .. Puds too good.
Struggle a bit as a vegetarian but always delicious food, lovely service and nice cosy pub!
Fantastic night at The Crown. The atmosphere was relaxing, the food excellent and the staff very attentive without being intrusive. The celebration chocolates were an unexpected touch to a fabulous meal.
We were greeted warmly and were well looked after throughout our visit. We were there for my husbands birthday and this was marked by he staff with a card and chocolates which was a lovely personal touch. Thank you
Another great meal. Always well looked after by the staff. Thanks to Monica who was very good
Looking forward to the new additions to the menu over the next few weeks
As always fab meal and service. Looking forward to returning soon.
The staff are lovely, the food is perfect and the place is stunning - non pretentious just fab
As one of our party was allergic to sulphites the Staff had to to attend to that which they did constructively offering alternative courses.
The service by one individual could have been better both in friendliness and information.
We had to wait an age for the coffees and then for the bill despite the place being almost empty by then.
This was our third visit in two years.
I would recommend going in general as it is a lovely little pub. But the food is over priced for what it is. I expected more. I'd say just have a pudding and a drink and that would he perfect!
Delicious food as always
They totally rely on the owners name and make no effort- £35 for a piece of ribeye- which was actually tasteless
For someone who is renowned for inventiveness- he must have been on holiday when this menu was designed. Although you could go to the Hinds Head and pay nearly £50 for a ribeye- the mind boggles at what you get for that
Very poor quality- overpriced and tasteless
The waitress was great
Lovely meal - great quality, excellent service - would go again.
I took friends to celebrate their 40th Wedding anniversary. The ambiance was so lovely, the staff very attentive and knowledgeable. The food and wine were exquisite. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Crown at Bray. The extra special touch at the end was very much appreciated. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Fab meal we will be back
My second dinner here, and once more I was pleased with service, interiors, food and drinks. Definitely worth another visit, it’s a gastropub with prices similar to many other places but food is slightly better than average at similarly priced pubs.
Can’t get enough of this place at the moment. Great food, nice relaxed atmosphere. Ticks all the boxes every time
It’s not the biggest of menus but the food choices were very good. We had the burgers and they were both delicious. Staff kindly refunded our drinks too after an accident occurred near to us as we were eating our delicious burgers .We would dine here again.
