One of the top St Albans restaurants, Thai Square is housed within a beautifully restored 15th Century timber frame building.

We are one of the top Thai restaurants in this ancient English city, and were honoured as a finalist in the 2017 Hertfordshire Food and Drink Awards.

Our St Albans restaurant location has a bar area with a wide and varied selection of wines and cocktails, making it the perfect place for both dinner and drinks.

Be sure to try the Massaman and Green curries and our popular house special grilled barbecue pork on skewer ‘Moo Ping’. They are lovingly prepared by our head chef who was trained in Northeastern Thailand, which is known for spicy salads and soups. These dishes are recommended by our customers and dedicated kitchen team alike.

We arrived early for our booking which was no issue, and they seated us straight away. The restaurant is strikingly beautiful in such a gorgeous old building. There were only the regular menus on the table, so I had to ask for the early bird menu, which the staff seemed like they didn’t really want to give us. The food was absolutely delicious. Fresh and piping hot. The service was a little slow, but overall a great evening and would definitely return!

The starters were not very good. Our dumpings seemed like they were mass produced and left a long time under a heat lamp before serving. The chicken satey were not home made and the peanut sauce was terrible. The mains were good but small.

Thai Square is set in a beautiful mock Tudor building, and the service was decent. They offered a few vegan and gluten-free options, though most were based around tofu, which I try to avoid. Unfortunately, my experience was spoiled when I found a (body) hair in my green curry. The server was apologetic and removed the dish from the bill, but it put us off the rest of our meal. For a birthday dinner, this was very disappointing. I think they could have handled things much better.

We were welcome buy a lady who just could not smile and was fretting visibly stressed. We had to ask for prawn crackers and taking at least the drink orders after a good 5 minutes wait. The food was ok and prices much higher than the amazing Thai only up the road (which was closed on Monday). Such a shame as the building is beautiful but for me that’s about it!
