We always enjoyed being at Stella Mare’s. We have been going there for many years and We feel like family there and we love our server Angel. We are always being treated first class and will always definitely go back whenever we take our mother, family and friends. Every staffs are great.

Set in a beautifully restored house built in 1872, this looks like a French Country House ought to look, with roses on the drapes and decorated plates and lithographs on the wall. Tres charmant, my Maman used to say.
The food was charmingly presented, too. We shared the oeufs (deviled eggs with accompaniments, which were tasty but they were deviled eggs) for an appetizer. The French onion soup was the best we’ve ever had, with melty cheese over a slice of baguette and the most delicious beef broth ever!
For the mains, I had the duck burger with a lovely cherry sauce, blue cheese and toasted brioche (the duck was tasty but overdone for my taste). The French fries were very good, skinny and hot and well salted.
My husband had pork, porterhouse cut, and enjoyed the meat and various vegetables, well cooked and surrounded by a lovely sauce (I can’t remember which one he chose of the three sauces offered).
We each had a glass of the house merlot. It is in a wine growing region.
Dessert was an excellent strawberry sorbet that was as rich as ice cream. It came with nothing on the side, not even a cookie.
The service was a little slow (we had to ask for water refills) but very nice. It felt more casual than forgetful.
Expensive, delicious and charming. But I need a cookie with my sorbet, please.

Have been here many times and it is reliably good. This time, I had the Canard al'Orange and it was exceptionally nice with crispy skin and a perfectly delicious orange gastrique over pureed parsnip with roasted asparagus and stone fruits. Really good.

We went on Santa Barbara week to try different items on the menu at a fixed price. Frog leg appetizer, Coq A Vin and Shirt Rib Bourguignon, as main courses were excellent. The Chocolate tort for dessert was almost like eating fudge; the bread pudding was not quite as good. So, wow, what an excellent meal overall and the service was very attentive. We would highly recommend.

Dish with the fish had too many little bits of veggies. They were not enough to really enjoy and they all mushed into whatever was next to them. The potatoes were the only thing of any amount. Probably the cheapest item. Dish sounded better on the menu than in real time.
We have been to Stella Mares quite often, but I think the food is becoming less of quality and more emphasis on quantity of tid bits.

The server and the manager are all very polite, very kind. But the restaurant does not serve authentic French cuisine at all. No presentation on the salad. No right flavor on escargots, other SPECIALITÉES. Very disappointed!

Best brunch. All was delicious, excellent pineapple mimosas, fresh ingredients in all our dishes, tasty entrees included bay scallops, ratatouille, pain perdu & berries. Even the cafe latte was a perfect finish. Host, server and ambiance were fantastic.

We were a group of seven, and the hostess seated us in a private room, which was perfect for our dinner and conversation. I can't speak to the main dining area. Cuisine is French-accented with Californian touches. Wait staff was attentive but unobtrusive. Some of us ordered off the Restaurant Week menu, others the daily menu, and everyone was pleased with their meal. The menu is not extensive, so I suggest looking at it ahead of time. They have vegetarian options, but specialize in more traditional entrees such as braised beef, coq au vin, and poached salmon.

It was a lunch on our anniversary day and it was so cute. The decor is very French/rustic country in a glasshouse by a lake. Nice view. Food was delicious and server was very nice. Had a lovely time and we would definitely be back

Excellent place to eat. Tremendous amount of focus showing in the preparation and delivery of the food; after all, that is what we are there for. Wine pairing is an exacting thing to pull off - the choices made for this for 'restaurant week" meal was very well balanced and expanded the flavors found in the wine.
Service was calming, accomplished with minimum effort it seemed, but underlying that is expertise to allow the diners room to enjoy themselves with little interruption.

Great lighting, very nice servers, unbelievable little boat of free bread at the beginning that I really wish was bottomless. I asked for seconds under the pretense of a birthday (true!) and we got more. Altogether the best burger I've ever had - I just wish there would have been more of it! Frog legs (there were 3) were not worth it, just get a second duck burger instead.

My husband and I celebrate Valentines Day with a dinner at a fancy restaurant. We tried Stella Mare last year, but it was full. So I started early this year and we were in. It is a beautiful restaurant by the bird refuge, so there is no traffic and it is quiet and has ample parking. We were seated in a small room with only four tables. They had a set menu with three choices for each course. $69 per person and there was an option for unlimited sparkling wine by Charles LaFitte for an additional $10. They also offered two special cocktails for an additional price. We opted for the sparkling wine. We both ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon, which was excellent! Very tender and rich. I had the Yellowfin tail tartare for appetizer. It was delicious. I could have had that for my dinner and been satisfied. We both ordered the chocolate flourless cake for dessert. Delicious! The portions were just right.
The service is the right amount of attentiveness without being intrusive. There was no hustle and bustle and it was quiet in the small room. I would definitely request it on our next visits which I hope will be many more times.
It was the perfect evening made special by the Stella Mare staff and chef.

The food, ambience and service was excellent. We were in the greenhouse room which unfortunately tends to get loud with all the reflective services...especially since there was a large group of eight in the room instead of just couples or tables of four. Otherwise, a lovely evening.

They must have changed chefs, the food was not as good as it usually is, the salmon did not have much flavor and the green sauce was not good at all. The ratatouille in my husbands dish was flavorless. But we still love this place.

The service here is always on the slow side ordering drinks the waiters and waitresses don’t come by the table often and so if you’re needing something else you got a wave them over. I would expect a place like this to be at your table all the time getting you what you need the food was not exceptional the cream spinach was in a soup sauce the braised ribs really were overcooked but it had a nice sauce. Dessert was good

My wife, 14-year old son and I went to celebrate 31 years of marriage. It was the perfect place for lunch. We enjoyed the appetizers, main dish and dessert. We left very full but very happy. We will be back next time we are in Santa Barbara.

Carol, as always, was warm, professional and tended to our needs. The short ribs and salmon with Bordelaise sauce was excellent. Stella Mare's is our favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara.

Awful. Awful. Every dish appeared to come out of a walk in fridge not prepared fresh. Pate was tasteless served with stale toasts. Onion soup was weak with no flavor. Duck ala orange appeared to be cooked days before just like the cassoulet. Wine list thin and not very good. It’s a beautiful venue without any care from the kitchen.
