My husband and I found Stella Mare on OpenTable and had a delightful early-afternoon brunch. The setting is absolutely lovely (and light-filled), the food and drinks are perfectly prepared, and the service is both friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!
It’s an easy brunch gem in Santa Barbara!
Amazing service food and ambiance.
Very pleasant with great food!
In SB for a two week vacation and this was our absolute favorite meal.
Honestly we have always had exceptional service there and the other night it seemed like someone took our order who didn’t know the menu and screwed up 3 of the 4 orders. We were pretty confused because we didn’t understand what got misunderstood. Also we would have ordered another round of drinks and we never got asked (we only had one round). We love it there but by far our worst experience
Had the halibut which was ok . Nice environment but food was average
Excellent food and service!
The food was very good. The cocktails were tasty. Waitress was attentive and provided useful recommendations. The old house is charming.
Stella Mare's is our family go-to for celebration dinners and it does not disappoint. Food and service are consistently superb!
My 3rd visit to Stella Mare's...this time for Mom's 91st Birthday. Always fine food, great service and a lovely atmosphere.
We eat often at Stella’s. Everything is always predictably perfect. We are never disappointed with the service or the food. My filet mignon special was incredible and my wife’s pork chop was tender and huge. Eric took great care of us as always. The best Beefeater martini anywhere too!
Great food and nice, out of the way location. The escargot were fantastic, great sauces and the deserts are ridiculously good.
Menu is v good but the portions were too large compared to many French restaurants that we have been to and the sauce for the frogs legs was too creamy and not enough taste with herbs etc.
Location and service is good just felt could have provided less food and raised the quality of what was provided a little more.
Perfect: food (every course), and portion size, and service
The Jax music was fantastic!
Amazing food, great music & lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend.
We have been to Stella Mare's several times. Sometimes we've been for a special occasion or as we did tonight, a date night. We have never been disappointed.
I used to love this restaurant. We recently went for lunch and all of our meals were mediocre or poor. The salads that accompanied our meals were TERRIBLE. No dressing, old lettuce. I'm not sure how the felt they could call it a salad. It was like someone dumped an old bag of leafy greens on to the plate. The "special" quiche of the day was disappointing. did NOT taste fresh at all. We ate out of necessity since everyone was hungry and on a tight schedule, but everyone was really disappointed in their meals.
I would absolutely never go back.
We love this place. The atmosphere is awesome, it's a beautiful place. The lake is across the street and is makes for a killer sunset. The service is always great. The food is amazing and comes to the table the way you ordered it. The food is actually still hot when it arrives at your table!!! A simple thing, but their French fries are soooo good.
Three nice salads at lunch. One salad was inexplicably loaded with brown lettuce and avocado. When the manager asked about boxing it up we declined and showed him why it was uneaten. He really went out of his way to not acknowledge the issue. The waiter was nicer.
Many fine experiences here and this was not typical.
This is one of our favorites for special occasions. It was my birthday and our server, Francois, did everything to make it a wonderful event. I had the pineapple mimosa and TARTINE DE SAUMON
butter toasted sourdough bread, caper crème fraiche, fresh dill, pickled red onions, marinated cucumber, shaved radish, crumbled egg yolk, parsley. It was very good except the smoked salmon was way too salty. My friend had the omelet du jour which was a bacon and cheese omelet with a sauce which was very tasty. Service was great and atmosphere was great.
It was wonderful....food, service and atmosphere were perfect!
Beautiful location, beautiful decor and exquisite food and wine selection--outstanding!
I can't even describe the feeling you get when you walk into this place. The atmosphere and ambiance is just once of a kind. Then you get a unique french menu, lovely and professional staff, and THEN an amazing bartender. I love this place. Will be back!
Outstanding ambiance, meal and service. The French onion soup is a must have - the food is remarkable!
We came to Santa Barbara by train, and selected Stella Mare based on Open Table reviews. The evening that we went a jazz combo was playing in the “greenhouse “. The attention for service was excellent as was the Sole Merinere.
The food is delicious! French onion soup is the best anywhere. Good wine selection. The service was really good. Waiter was very attentive. It was full but the noise level was still decent.
The service was extremely good. The food was great as always However, the noise level was high.
Stella Mare is one of our favorites in Santa Barbara / Montecito area. Beautiful ambiance, amazing service and great French style cooking.
Great food and ambience
Nice place to eat and a local favorite
Food was delicious. Server was incredibly attentive. Would go back again.
We were running late and they said they would keep the kitchen open for five minutes. We ended up having the whole restaurant to ourselves! And they were awesome! We told them we would hurry so they could get out of there but they told us not to rush and to enjoy our evening. Dave was our server and gave us special attention. Thank you Stella Mare’s and thank you Dave for your kindness! You know your patrons well!
Amazing, great food, great service and the decor was very beautiful. I recommend having dinner at the greenhouse. They also have live jazz on Wednesday’s
Both my husband and one of the friends with whom we were dining wear hearing aids, and are uncomfortable in noisy restaurants (most restaurants in Santa Barbara are extremely noisy). We asked for a quiet table, and that we got, in one of the smaller dining rooms. Sad to say the food was not up to par. I ordered sole meunière; I got fresh fish, nicely cooked, in a reasonable facsimile of meunière sauce, but it was definitely not sole. Why not tell the customer there is no sole? My husband's country pate was flavourless and had a very firm, rubbery texture, not as expected. The coquilles St. Jacques were bay scallops under a thick layer of melted cheese. The moules frites in cream were abundant, but the cream sauce was too bland. In short, it seems the chef has no idea what French bistro food is like. It's not that anything tastes terrible, just nothing like what it purports to be. I hope that someone (perhaps a Go Fund Me campaign?) will send the chef to France to learn what bistro food is really like. I hope so, because in spite of all this, I like Stella Mare's and want them to succeed.
The staff was very friendly & professional...our teens tried frog legs & escargot!
I had asked for a nice seat and to be seated with a bottle of wine and to not bring up the bill, we were taken care of from the beginning. My girlfriend was completely surprised and the services was phenomenal. Dave took care of us throughout the night and it couldn’t have gone any better. This has been one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.
We started with frog legs and escargot, which were ok. However ,mussels had been over cooked as a consequence most of them were not edible.
Feels like the south of France! Excellent food, atmosphere and service. ❤️
