Prohibition House never fails to impress. The menu is varied, the food excellent (the Kale salad is huge and great for sharing as an appetizer) and the service fast and efficient. The main room can get a bit noisy if there are large groups but not more so than in any other place. Remains my favourite restaurant in Ottawa

Welcome to Bodega!

Bodega is a New York-inspired neighbourhood restaurant from the people behind Drip House. Think chopped cheese, egg and cheese sandwiches, red-sauce classics, and no-frills plates that hit every time.

Begin your day with a coffee and croissant in the morning, then come back and sit down for a cheeky glass of wine after work. Decompress with the warm ambiance at Bodega, and it's even friendlier baristas and bartenders. With good music, honest drinks, and the grit and soul of NYC bodegas, it's a come-as-you-are spot. All are welcome, whether you're stopping in for a fast bite or settling in.

Tucker’s Marketplace - Ottawa

ByWard Market

About the restaurant

Mother Tucker, or Mama Lisa as she was affectionately called by the workers, was a remarkable woman who played a vital role in the construction of the Rideau Canal in Ottawa. Born in 1789 in Ireland, she immigrated to Canada with her husband John Tucker, a carpenter, in 1816. They settled in Bytown, a small town that would later become Ottawa, and opened a boarding house near the canal site.

Mama Tucker was known for her kindness, generosity, and culinary skills. She cooked for Colonel By's men, who were mostly Irish immigrants like herself, and served them hearty meals of stew, bread, and tea. She also provided them with comfort and care, tending to their wounds, illnesses, and grievances. She was a mother figure to many of the workers, who often faced harsh conditions, discrimination, and danger while building the canal.
