Unreal corned beef sandwich and Chicken Milanese! RL has a great old world feel and is diserving of its status.
Our water was outstanding. Shame on me for forgetting his name, but he was great!
Tables were completely overbooked, which left parties waiting for a ridiculous amount of time in a very cramped part of the front of the restaurant. Overpriced meals for regular American fair.
The only issue that occurred was the hostess did not seat us for 45 minutes after our reservation time , plus the time we got there which was 30 minutes before our reservation time. She kept on telling us they were cleaning the table each time we asked how much longer. I would have preferred if she was honest letting us know they were running behind. Besides the wait and bad communication, the waitress, food, and atmosphere was pleasant.
Réservation for 12.45 and couldn’t get a table before 1.30 pm
Don’t get me wrong, we love RL, and are frequent diners. But its usually impeccable service was anything but today, Father’s Day. It was clear the team was understaffed, with harried hostesses scrambling to fill in as table turners and meal order takers. If anything, I would have thought there would be extra staff on such a popular brunch dining day.
We waited 30 minutes after our appointed reservation time to be seated, and then were promptly ignored by the waitstaff for at least another 15 minutes before taking matters into our own hands and flagging down a waiter who agreed to serve us, even though it wasn’t his station.
Things got back on track from there, but overall a disappointing service experience.
Fathers Day brunch. 11:30 reservation. Checked in 11:15 Got table at 11:57! Not acceptable. Was very disappointed. Poorly managed. Food was subpar. Turkey burger was hard. French toast was dry and ordinary. My husband ordered the shrimp with grits and enjoyed his. The sweet bread basket and strawberry butter were delicious.
For an establishment that has been operating for years they are quite familiar with holiday reservations therefore there is no excuse for our reservation not being honored in a timely manner.
I've eaten here on several occasions and find that the food and service is very good and makes for a great relaxing and enjoyable meal whether it's lunch or brunch on a Sunday morning. Afterwards you can walk out the door and do some serious shopping on Michigan Ave. I have no complaints and find RL one of my favorite places to eat on special occasions or "just because".
We received a firm reminder email about our reservation to be sure we arrived within 15 minutes of our reservation time AND it stated that if not, we would be required to have an abbreviated dining experience. Okay. Then we arrive 10 minutes prior to our reservation and had to wait an add'l 30 minute PAST our reservation time. They did not express apologies or try to accommodate us in another way.
The dining room is absolutely cramped -- too many tables shoved into the room. Guests at tables were not able to get in our of their chairs without asking neighboring table to move due to no space to move their chair away form table. Because of this two in our party we sitting backs to a bustling walk way of servers and were constantly being bumped.
The food was great!
Be prepared for tables very close together and having to talk very loudly with you companions.
Great. Love dining there.
The lobster roll was unbelievable. The patio was lovely and the service was excellent!
Beautiful restaurant & great service. Food was fresh & delicious
We eat here occasionally and it’s always very busy and very good. Waiters are efficient.
Our first visit to Chicago’s RL, we were impressed with every aspect of the restaurant. The tables are a bit tight, but food quality and service were excellent. Highly recommend.
Every time I visit Chicago, I eat at RL!! I especially love the ambiance, everyone is so friendly and the food is delicious.
Outstanding good and service! We celebrated my granddaughters 3rd birthday and it couldn’t have been more perfect!
I am a local who lives within walking distance of RL. Food was good--the service was not up to its usual standards. One of my guests asked to take her remaining salad home, and asked for it to go. The waiter or bus boy (not sure which he was said that RL does not provide that service. We knew RL Provided to go service and had to keep going round and round on the issue with him until he finally understood. He thought we were asking for the coffee to go which was not the case. Not typical RL service.
Every time we travel to Chicago we definitely make a reservation. One of our favorite restaurants for many reasons
Great space, food and location.
Having taken a client to lunch here on a working day and been impressed, I took my wife out for a special dinner, to which we were both looking forward. I booked for 8.15pm, as I had a meeting earlier in the evening. Arriving early, I was told we would be seated closer to the time for which our table was booked, which is fair enough. In fact, we were seated just after 8.30pm. We ordered both food and drink fairly promptly - we made our minds up quickly, and by this point we were certainly hungry. And then a server came back to tell me my entree was 'sold out', so I chose another dish. And then he came back and I was told that dish was also 'sold out', so I chose a third dish. Then I was told that choice A would, in fact, be available, but it might take 'one or two minutes longer' to prepare - I said I would stick with Plan C.
We shared an appetizer, which was brought fairly promptly - shrimp and calamari deep fried. This was fine - not remarkable, but not unacceptable. And then we waited, and waited and waited for the entrees. Eventually, we were served our entrees at 9.26pm - 71 minutes after the time for which we booked our table.
During this time, I think four different manager types came by and apologized. Way too many managers - and not enough actual waiting staff, which might explain the delay. The restaurant was full, and was simply not coping. We overheard a server at a nearby table explain to someone trying to order they didn't have quite a number of things on the menu, which set a context for why I had to chose 3 times.
When the food did come, the liver and the rib-eye were very good - but by this time we barely had the energy to eat them. The fries were overcooked and inedible, the green beans were OK.
For a place of such style and aspiration, this was a DISASTROUS showing. The server looking after us rather glibly said we would not be charged for the fries (damn right!), and he'd taken 'a round of drinks' of the check. Not a good apology.
You can't find a more beautiful restaurant in Chicago. The interiors are just luscious and the service is just exceptional. At every moment that are there when you want them and not when you don't. The food was outstanding. It's both elegant and fun. No matter how many times I have dined there - I always want to go back again and again.
Always impeccable service and scrumptious food. crabcakes are out of this world!
Fantastic! Hope to return every trip back to Chicago.
Great. Always go there when I am in Chicago.
We have made dining at Ralph Lauren Restaurant an annual tradition. The food, atmosphere, and service always makes for a memorable dining experience. We shared oysters, a vegetable salad, and Dover Sole deboned table side while paired with a beautiful Oregon Pinot Noir highly recommended by the sommelier. I unequivocally recommend R.L. Restaurant for anyone seeking a wonderful dining option in the Gold Coast.
Elegant atmosphere with delectable entrees that are served efficiently by a very friendly and accomodating staff.
Fabulous place, definitely recommend. Delicious food, fantastic service, great atmosphere - 5 stars all the way. Bravo.
Always a pleasure to dine at RL.
We celebrated our son's 24th birthday with Saturday brunch at RL, a favorite of his. Although the day was cool-ish for June, thanks to heat lamps we sat comfortably half inside/half outside. This allowed us to enjoy the world strolling by, on top of gracefully prepared food and almost best of all, our professionally friendly server Joseph. You might think from all the expensive Ralph Lauren magazine ads that this is a pretentious place. Not so. It is welcoming.
A minor irritation was the blare of passing sirens (RL is on Chicago at Michigan), but control of street noise is not within the restaurant's purview. Our middle-class little family has now eaten here any number of times. We have always left happy to have come.
A favorite spot when I lived in Chicago and a great spot to come to for a visit. Good food and drinks, close to lots of shopping including American Girl Place! The food is tasty—lots of classic dishes plus a nice wine and cocktail list.
Dining at RL with my Friends made my Birthday into a Very Special Day; However, the RL Birthday Brownie made it Extra Special! I hope to return to RL during my next visit to Chicago.
The food was delish- we had the chopped salad and turkey burger... but the wine glass pour was the smallest I have ever had... for a $16 glass of chardonnay, it was tiny!
Always amazing service. Great people. Cannot be beat.
Wonderful but tables are so close together. I was as connected to the next table as to my table.
Our waitress Nicole was absolutely amazing! We were torn between trying several things and she helped guide us to choosing the perfect entree and dessert! The birthday/graduation surprise for our girls was great and delicious. When we were done, Nicole even gave us some great ideas on things to do in Chicago during our visit! We will definitely be coming back whenever we are in Chicago! The service was prompt, fast, and everyone was very nice and welcoming!
I go to RL often and it consistently great! Everything is so well done, it’s a pleasure to go!
All that you would expect from something associated with Ralph Lauren. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the staff were exceedingly friendly. Of course, every detail was considered and exquisite.
The food and service were outstanding. The noise level was deafening, we were a party of four and could not hear the person next to us speak We’re constantly saying “What” The whole night. Beautiful Decour as well, but horrible acoustics
No Open Table pojnts? That's disappointing, to say the keast
