We feature an 8 course vegetable inspired tasting menu showcasing seasonal ingredients sourced from our own organic urban garden in Long Beach and local farmer friends. Thank you for considering us for your special evening. We book parties of up to 4 people four weeks in advance. We require a credit card deposit of $45 per guest to hold your reservation. We will refund the amount held when you and your guest(s) arrive for your reservation or if cancelled with in 48 hours of your reservation. You have up to 48 hours to cancel your reservation or to change the amount of guests. If we do not receive your cancellation with in 48 hours of your reservation a $172 per person plus 3% service charge, tax and 18% gratuity will be billed to your credit card. By booking a reservation you "agree" and "understand" the reservation terms. We look forward to cooking for you and your guest(s).
It started off a little bumpy as they had not received my email instructions about gluten, dairy and sugar restrictions. But Keven was exemplary in trying his best to make it work. I ended up having no issues whatsoever even though there were hints of gluten and dairy in their fantastic offerings. The beef was exceptional. I enjoyed the wines which made it work seamlessly, since they were extremely well matched to the food. Delicious and light--a true ensemble of unusual tastes and textures in the ambiance of entrepreneurs with idiosyncratic artisanal flair!
Le Comptoir is a VERY special experience. From the moment you sit down, it's obvious how much care and preparation has gone into the meal you are about to enjoy. The chef does a brief intro describing the dishes on the menu for the night, highlighting certain ingredients and why they are special, and then does his thing. The staff is busy but friendly the whole time whether they are plating the next dish, serving the next course or answering questions. We watched in awe as our 'fruit and veggie' plate was meticulously built by the apprentice using tweezers, one piece at a time. Literally every single course was an A+, we wouldn't have changed a thing. The base price is $120 for the tasting and $54 for wine pairing. There were four courses with a supplemental option, all of which we got, this does add about $100 to the bill, but it's sooooo worth it! Le Comptoir is definitely a special occasion kind of dinner, hope to be back soon! Oh, and make sure you special order a loaf of their sourdough bread when you make your rez. They bake it in the back while you dine, and hand you a hot loaf when you leave. It's the best sourdough you will ever have!
Chef Gary Menes and his fabulous team created a very special evening for my husband and I, and our two dear friends. The fresh garden to counter vegetables were fresh, beautifully and delicately cooked. The scallops, beef and truffle pasta were the perfect supplement to our menu. The 24-yr old starter donut and the cheese platter were the memorable ending to our amazing evening. Thank you to Gary and his great team!

Le Comptoir smashed my expectations with its vegetable-inspired cuisine. Truly a farm to table experience with a strong emphasis of sustainability and no hint of pretentiousness - 80% of the produce served comes from the chef’s own garden and tap water is served upon seating. I don’t know how they whipped up all the dishes for 12 people on 4 induction stoves but they worked magic in such a small space. Highly recommend this place!

Tasting menus can be intimidating. Chef Gary Menes takes care of that. His vibe is anti-Ramsey, like he'd be comfortable chilling with you and taking down some chips and guac after a surf sesh.
While the tasting menu experience can often be a beautiful ballet, Le Comptoir is like watching your friend make an elegant meal at her house on your birthday.

Delicious meal. The way they showcased different vegetables was pretty incredible and eye opening. Such simple ingredients went a long way. The beef was also fantastic. At first, I thought it was too rare but it was seared to perfection.
Foods are too salty with too many fried and oily courses. Overpriced for the quality of the food.

This place is a treat! Michelin starred Long Beach Chef Gary Menes is rocking a 10 seat 40s lunch counter in a beautiful 1920s Spanish Revival style hotel. Definitely upscale dining, be prepared to be thrilled with the versatility of fresh organic urban grown vegetables. My husband, Mr. Meat, conceded that the veggie-centric meal scared him, but ended up being one of the best meals he's ever had (And we've eaten at three Michelin starred restaurants). The evening was wonderful, his sous chefs and assistant were attentive, and it was amazing to watch professionals assemble the meal with surgical precision. Love! Love! Love!

A true experience! We loved every minute of our time at Le Comptoir. The space is tiny and everything from meal prep to dish washing happens right before your eyes. The chef was personable and informative, dishes were creative and delicious, wine was perfectly paired. An amazing way to spend an evening. We'll be back!
Great tasting menu ; all the food was perfectly cook ; Head chef does all the cooking ; and wine pairing my favorite of all were the soup ; donut; and the 35yrs yeast bread made in the house ; thank you for a great experience.

One of the best meals we have had in LA. And by a long shot the best vegetarian/vegan menus in the city. Wonderful wine selection, incredibly thoughtfully prepared courses. Overall an outstanding experience from beginning to end. Do make sure to visit - it won't disappoint.
WOW - that is all that I can say. What a wonderful experience we had on Friday night. Going into it, I wasn't sure about having a veggie forward meal, but everything was delicious. Plan for it to be a little pricey, but well work the experience.
The food, the ambiance, etc. was great, but I have to tell you that the relationship between the chef and his son who happened to be helping that night just added such a personal touch to a wonderful evening. Also, having the Chef available afterwards to talk was such a delight.
We were a party of four and two of the party added the supplements (proteins) to their meal so that we could all try everything and one person got the wine paring and we each took a sip of that as well.
8 Courses - the two favorite courses were the Corn Veloute and the Scallops - both truly heaven. Though not bad, the two least favorite items were the egg brown butter dish (even though the bread is to die for) and the donut. I will tell you, you have the option to order a loaf of the bread for each guest if you want - do it. At least do one loaf for a party of four and have them cut in half.

Amazing vegetarian tasting menu from a former French Laundry chef. This probably isn't eveyone's jam but if you like food and attention to detail, you will love this. A great date or special occasion restaurant.

This was a wonderful night for us. We had a good time and the food was delicious. It was a pricy meal, but you know that walking in. They did an excellent job on accommodating our needs and the other guests as well. The service was well done. Our one recommendation is to not order the truffle dish as an add on. We tried all the add ons and did not feel this one was worth it. We’re glad we added it because we’d never had such big pieces of truffle before, but we wouldn’t order it again. Definitely order a bread to go, if it’s in your budget, because the bread was very good. Also include a coffee at the end, it was so scrumptious.
One of the most fantastic dinners I’ve ever had. Well worth the cost. We will be coming back for sure.

Always a fun experience. Chef Gary and his apprentice Alex are a great team!
We were left waiting for 1/2 hour in the hotel lobby before being taken into the restaurant. No apology or acknowledgement of the delay. The carpet in the lobby was full of holes & held together with gaffer tape. Not a great start.
We were brought through by the lovely Alex - very charming.
They don’t have a wine list and prefer that you have the wine pairing. Im not a fan of pairings so we were left with choosing from the limited pairing offering.
Music is playing very loudly.
The first couple of dishes were superb. Soup followed by complex vegetable & fruit dish.
Kind of went downhill from there.
Scallop completely overpowered by lemon
Roast squash had an unpleasant texture
Dish with grits followed by dish with mashed potato were very similar texturally.
Did I mention the awful loud music?
Chef was completely disinterested in those dining there.
Vast contrast to a similar set up at Dialogue in Santa Monica- there the chef holds court, exudes charisma and delivered kickass food.
Food was outstanding, wine was good, but really small pour for wine pairing I thought, while we didn't have to get all the extras, we did and they were all great, but our tap was over $500 for two, which was a bit expensive....
Good dining experience. Fun atmosphere and service was on point. Will give it another shot in the future to see what else chef Gary can innovate. Overall enjoyed myself at this restaurant.
So my husband and I have been here three times, if I could, I would literally eat here every night for the rest of my life. Chef Gary is incredibly talented and provides thoughtful beautiful food. Every bite leaves you wanting more. His apprentice Alex is wonderful and Flor is sweet :) Can’t wait to come back again and again.

I love the concept of this small, counter-only tasting menu restaurant but sadly, the food just isn't very good. Dishes lack exciting flavor and a lot of the food comes out tepid. Sadly was disappointed and didn't feel like the it was worth it.
Outstanding! This is not your typical restaurant. Very small and intimate. 12 seat counter so you can see the food being prepared as the chef and staff explain the menu. I was a little leary of the "mostly vegetables and fruit" as I am not a vegetarian but it was wonderful and more than enough food. Be sure to purchase the wine pairing as it is a good value. Overall more of an experience or event than just dining. Fun to chat with the other guests as it is a very intimate environment. You can't go wrong here.

It's too hard to pick a favorite restaurant, but Chef Gary Memes is our favorite chef in LA. Everything about the restaurant is not just unique and perfect, but his personality and philosophy toward cooking shine through with every plate.
The "fruit and vegetable" plate is just an arrangement of fruits and veggies on a dish, but it's possibly the best single plate you'll be served in Los Angeles.
And whether or not you opt for the meat supplements (we've tried both ways), don't be turned off by the veggie focus if you're a meat lover. These plates have all the savory taste and substance that you typically expect from meat, Chef Gary just knows what he's doing and he and his always-awesome team just execute everything so well it's almost frustrating. All the technique of the fanciest restaurants but none of the pretention.
This is the perfect chef and restaurant for the dining experience of getting to sit at the counter as they cook in front of you. Stay a little after you're done to chat with the staff. Always get the coffee.
