Minetta Tavern was opened in Greenwich Village in 1937. The Tavern was named after the Minetta Brook, which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River. Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists. Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern." We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

I thought the wait staff was pushy, we were waiting for our final guest to arrive and the staff was asking for our order. I asked them to wait until we were all at the table. They were more interested in turning the table for the next reservation. We arrived early so there was no need to push us. The food was mediocre at best. My son had the $31 burger, when comparing it to another burger he ate at Covina, his reaction was the Covina burger was far superior and much less expensive. This is a tourist trap, there are far better dining experiences to be had in NYC. Extremely over priced.

We had a fun evening at Minetta Tavern. The service was excellent, and with the exception of the seemingly random 90s alternative songs that intermittently interrupted the jazz standards, which give the tavern its classic New York feel, the ambiance was quite nice. The steak-frites were peppery and the béarnaise sauce bright and pungent. Though the kitchen could not nail a medium cook on the steak or the burger, both were delicious if doctored up with enough salt, pepper, and other provided condiments. The star was the chocolate soufflé however, which was worth the trip itself.

Wonderful experience at Minetta Tavern. The staff was excellent and attentive and the food was delicious. The bone marrow appetizer and duck pâté special were both very good and the Black Label Burger really is worth all the hype. It is hands down the best burger I have had in my life. I would go back again just to have that. If you are a burger fan you absolutely owe it to yourself to go try it at least once.

Went for the famous black Angus hamburger, which turned to be the best piece of meat ever! Special mention for the buttered oysters, simply sublime. Warmly recommended to anyone looking for quality food and great taste. Thumbs up!

Wife and I went for anniversary. Waiter and staff very friendly, informative and spread everything out perfectly before our comedy show. Bone Marrow with a salad was a great starter. Wife had Filet Mignon paired with spinach and mashed potato which were excellent. I had the Bone in NY Strip which was also excellent. Old school New York feel only adds to the experience. Great way to celebrate our wedding anniversary! Minetta is always a delicious meal!

The food was great, and the staff was phenomenal. Everyone worked as a team to support all/any needs. We took a while to decide on our food choices, but as soon as someone recognized we were ready, they came over to check and took our order. This was the same for filling water, replacing a drink, helping to move the table to get in/out, etc. They really catered to us to make it an enjoyable experience. We left full and happy.

Disappointing with their timing as they were 20 minutes late for our reservation which caused us to miss the jazz show we had booked afterwards.

The meats were cooked to perfection however, none of the meals were very balanced in terms of getting protein carbs and veg.

Tight space and felt like we were having dinner with the people on either side of us.

Good energy of the place though.

Wasn't what I thought it would be. The Black label burger soaked through the bun and honestly for $30 lacked anything special to justify the cost. I've paid less and had much better French food, let alone could pay $9 for an insanely better burger. Service was great, decor was old world NY which was cool but the food missed the mark.

Hot, loud and slow service

The sommelier argued with me when I asked if the had red Sancerre. He said it did not exist and Sancerre only was white.

Having served it at home last weekend that would be incorrect. Check the wine list at Le Goule in NY and you will find it.

Nothing really stood out. We were in the first seating prior to the restaurant being filled and still waited an exorbitant amount of time between apps and dinner. The $33 burger while on many lists was meh. And the bus-ers cleared the table with such swift speed (almost as I put my fork down from the last bite they asked if plates could be cleared). Instead of feeling attentive it felt like they were ushering us out as soon as they could. I'd skip this place.

We found this place through a recommendation and were really just blown away. The service was impeccable but the food was out of this world. We had grilled oysters that were barely warmed medium oysters bathed in proscuitto butter. The bone marrow which I'm not a fan of anywhere else made me a fan - it was so tasty and delicious. Our entrees - -NY Strip and a Sea Bass were excellent and then we finished with the Grand Marnier souffle -- it was like eating a cloud. Highly recommend!
