Taking inspiration from the Viceroy’s house of New Delhi, the restaurant will be a glamorous Indian dining room with rainforest emperador marbles, dark timber paneling, gilded walls, and Lutyens inspired furnishings. The space will reflect the vibrant colours and intricate patterns of rare Jamavar shawls, offset with brass accents, hand-cut marquetry, and a sculpted bar that will celebrate the great textile traditions of India.
What Insiders Are Saying
Jamavar is an upmarket Indian restaurant in Mayfair with excellent food and a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere.
Very friendly and attentive staff.
Excellent customer service combined with delicious food and a nice ambience!
Food and service were both impeccable!
As always a wonderful evening with amazing cocktails and food
The food was good but the amount in each portion is so little, we order boneless chicken for starter it came only one piece and one piece of potato.
Lovely ambience, service attentive but not intrusive & food sublime - full of flavour, exquisitely spiced & ‘á point’ as to ‘heat’. Arguably the best cuisine of this kind I have EVER had (and that includes over 40 years’ extensive experience - in Birmingham & Leeds/Bradford, as well as London). I shall DEFINITELY be back!
The best Indian restaurant that I have enjoyed in London.
Overall we enjoyed our meal, the food was delicious and we were guided politely through choices by our server. However, the service was slow and a bit cold and functional which really sums up our reservations about our experience at Jamavar. The tone of the evening was unfortunately set from the beginning when the maitre d' took us through two floors of an all but empty restaurant to a table next to the kitchen doors and then expressed surprise when we asked if there was another, more appealing table available. No surprise to find that there was! This is an expensive restaurant in London's highly competitive restaurant market which we concluded really needs to make its guests feel more welcome in order to justify its prices. We will not hurry back.
Very tasty and pleasant atmosphere
The food tastes good but the portions sizes are not very filling.
I felt the price was too high for what you get.
Amazing Indian cuisines - beautiful atmosphere, attentive and gracious service, . I think , no, I o ow this is the best I Dian food that I have had, ever! Looking forward to maki this our “go to” for dinner when in London next.
Excellent service from Nazz & Vithal. Lamb chops are a must as they are delicious
Overall the service was poor, not one friendly smile from any of the staff. The maitre’d did not come up to the table once to check everything was ok. The ambience of the restaurant does not feel like fine dining as the tables are very cramped and there is the constant passing of people next to your table. The only plus side was the food which was decent but would not go back especially for the price.
It was really nice place with delicious indian cuisine one can ever get in london
Food was not great, seemed heated up. Was expensive for what it was.
So delicious and enjoyable we had to go two days in a row! Do not miss this excellent food and lovely service. We visited during Alphonso mango season—so many special treats!
Food was very tasty but portion sizes were small for the price. Service and atmosphere was good.
Best Indian food in London. Try the prawn dishes. Also currently mango is in season, amazing use of flavours. Thank you again
Food perfect as usual.
However we experienced what could only be described as the worse bit of service ever.
The tall bald guy with a stern look didn’t stop bothering us, every time we where speaking he was interrupting us.
When it came to ordering 3 of the party wanted the tasting menu and 1 the a la carte only to be told that wasn’t possible.
We where told that we all had to eat from the same menu...
How strange for an establishment of this kind.
When we explained that the person who wanted to eat from the a la carte menu was choosing to due to dietary requirements that the tasting menu could not cater for he still just said it was not possible.
We then decided to slightly part the tables and 2 of us have a la carte and 2 have the tasting menu, and the waiter said that isn’t possible as he has seen us part the tables and that we are together.
Once we had all ordered and eaten from the a la carte menu the waiter even tidied up around a colleague who was still eating...
Such a strange turn of events and such a shame as none of us will eat here again.
Overall the food is great this was my second visit in a month just think that this individual needs some training.
Everyone can have a bad day but this was beyond a joke.
Was he having a bad day? Or was he just pushing us to have the tasting menu as it’s the most expensive meal on the menu?
We were shown to the best table in the house (I had requested a romantic table) by a smiling member of staff. Generally every waiter, the sommelier etc. were very helpful and made us feel special. We ordered plenty of seafood (the fried crab is very interesting). Cocktails were also delicious. Much recommend Jamavar for a date night!
Food and service was good as usual.
My favourite Indian restaurant in London. The food and service is amazing. Highly recommend the 4 course lunch menu, great food and great value.
Good Indian food, overpriced though
Amazing! i think it's officially my favourite indian resturant.
The starters were very good but the mains were terrible. There’s much better butter chicken available at Waitrose than what was served here, which was akin to a soup. Same story with the lamb. The dal also disappointed. These are basic dishes that any decent Indian restaurant should nail down. The cocktails were good and the palak paneer side was good. The portions were sizeable. However for £60 per head it wasn’t really good enough.
This is my first visit to Jamavar. It has been on my list of 'must go to' restaurants for a long time. So we chose to celebrate my Mothers 77th Birthday. The restaurant is exquisitely decorated and fitted out. Great service from the moment one enters the door. Since my Mum is prone to some allergies, we had pre-advised the restaurant of these. The restaurant had not only called ahead, and confirmed the same. but the Manager, Mr Basu Joshi also immediately came and discussed her preferences.
Thank you to Mr Joshi, This is the exact kind of service I have come to expect from fine dining establishments. And Jamavar certainly did not disappoint on the service ! We have recently been to 3/4 fine dining Indian restaurants and Jamavar is one of the best along with Trishna. So thank you to Mr Joshi and Joaquin and the rest of the team to make our experience memorable. The food was served elegantly, and all of the food was excellent. The taste, flavours presentation, and quantity were abundant. A must visit again establishment, and the price is what I expect to pay and got plenty of value for our outing. As a surprise the staff presented my Mother with a birthday cake and candle, for which she was delighted. To add to the surprise the famous Hollywood actor @kelseygrammer also turned around and wished Mum a happy birthday. Thank you to Jamavar and to @kelseygrammer.
Our waiter Katarin/ Katr is always excellent and is an asset to Jamavar. Food is incredible.
Good evening but expensive.
Very good experience and amazing food!
Florin the waiter was very attentive!
We loved it
Good free from options
Knew it would be good, but exceeded expectations. If upstairs is too noisy for your liking there is a nice basement seating area.
un des meilleurs indiens de Londres . Seul le service peut être plus personnalisé
Booked as a treat for my 75 year old father who had spent the last month in hospital (the booking clearly stated that this was a special occasion). Table was not ready despite booking the day before. Was told by the general manager at the door that we would have to wait at the bar and my father was left STANDING in a cramped space bar. Had to make a fuss to the general manager who seeemed to be unable to understand why it was inappropriate. We were eventually given a temporary table next to the kitchen to be be seated whilst we waited for our table. Having waited for more than 30min after the supposed booking time we were given a table. The lamb biryani was ok but have had significantly better for less than half the price and was most definitely not worth the wait nor inconvenience. The waiter was lovely and tried his best to make up for the experience thus far however the night was ruined by poor management who was fully aware that this was a special occasion. Extremely disappointed and will not be visiting again.
Overall strictly okay. There are much better high end Indian restaurants. Food was passé. Ambience service were good.
The food is excellent...if you like really spicy Indian food. My husband was very happy with his meal and he also ate mine. I like some level of heat, but this was past what I can eat. However, if I took the "hot" away, I could tell everything was delicious. If we go again, I will ask if they are able to tone it down a bit.
It was more than amazing 👌👌👌
Food was very good but service was a bit rushed. Otherwise, the ambiance was nice.
