Dear Guests: République will be closed August 15 - early September for renovations. We plan to resume service the first week of September and will announce the date once it's known. We appreciate your patience and in the meantime invite you to visit our sister restaurants Manzke, Bicyclette, Petty Cash Taqueria, and Sari Sari Store.

République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our Chefs.

This is a magical place. Do not rush through your meal, allowing 2+ hours for the peak experience. Order anything, if you are breathing then you will enjoy it! And if you want to taste the best butter in the world, be sure to order the baguette. It's mainly a butter-delivery mechanism, albeit a tasty one.

We truly enjoyed dining in the back room. The ambience was great, noise great, temp great. The sommelier was very knowledgeable guiding us to the right red wine to start our evening paired with a really great story behind the bottle. It really made you feel as if the vineyard was his. Kudos to him. Kumamoto oysters were delicious. The bread with pan drippings a must. the lobster Mac n cheese was good, however the pasta was a tad too Al dente. My duck leg was a tad dry but the breast was incredibly cooked ( crispy skin and juicy) . Wagyu was nothing spectacular. Our server was wonderful. She knew when to touch base and when to let you eat. Overall, we will definitely be back.

Very good. Few tweaks. Had to wait for our reserved table and our entree (chicken w legumes) was luke-warm. We had a hard out to make a movie and since we were seated late, didn’t have time for dessert wh was a bummer since we were celebrating our anniversary. Despite that, still one of LA’s most charming restaurants for an upscale evening out.

A once-amazing restaurant is floundering due to understaffing. In a busy Friday, one waiter was serving the whole patio, with help from two kitchen runners/bussers. He hustled hard but just couldn’t keep up with the quantity of people he needed to serve. We (and many other tables) waited far too long to order and in between courses— I understand that this is the reality of dining in a pandemic, but at these prices it’s hard to stomach. The restaurant is also cheating itself out of higher checks; we only ordered two half-glasses of wine when we’d intended to order a bottle, simply because we didn’t have an opportunity to speak with anyone until our final courses came. (Same thing with extra bottles of water we would have happily ordered.) And, predictably, the wine arrived after we’d finished all of our food. We weren’t in the mood for dessert after all that. The bread and tomato salad were delightful, and the sauces for the pastas were amazing, but the pasta itself was hard (definitely not just “al dente” but unpleasant to eat). I can’t The total bill for two cocktails, two half-glasses of wine, a salad, a starter, and two pastas was $300 — which would be fine if everything had been lovely, but it wasn’t. Can’t imagine we’ll be back.

Republique is in the Miracle Mile neighborhood close to where our son lives so decided to try it since it’s so close by. Wow. The food, the service, drinks and the “family style” servings and the atmosphere were fantastic. If I had to give top rating to one of those it would be the food … French quality without a crazy amount of over-dedication to French food. Fabulous.

Would not recommend sitting outside this is more of a makeshift patio erected during Covid and you won’t get the same feel as inside the restaurant. The food was good but not really worth the price to me. Did not like the brussel sprouts but the wagu app was delicious. Service was subpar

Beautiful setting but the food was not up to par with the cost. The heirloom tomato dish was excellent but the peaches and beets did not work with the duck and the delicate flavor of the wagyu veal was overpowered by the anchovies. I wonder if anyone in the kitchen actually tasted the dish before they served it to the public.

République is lauded as one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, but based on a first visit it is not a great value and has shortcomings. The appetizers are very rich-- overly fried squash blossoms, for example-- and delayed to the point that the main courses arrive too late. The beef dish is very rich and smothered in a bed of mashed potatoes. It is truly worth $56 for four slices of nice beef? The menu is overpriced across the board. The cod entree is tasty, but sits in half a boullaibaise presentation that isn't very satisfying. Desserts were enjoyable at $15 a pop. If you want to dine our for two people for $300 in L.A. with one drink per person, Republique might be the place for you. At this price point, we expected much more in terms of food, service, presentation and ambience . . .
