République, located in mid-city, is owned by Chef Walter Manzke and Chef Margarita Manzke. Centered in the heart of Los Angeles, the classic building in which it resides was originally erected in 1929 by Charlie Chaplin, and later transformed into the iconic La Brea Bakery and Campanile Restaurant. République builds on this storied past, offering a gastronomic environment imbued with history and grandeur. The space features a casual bar and bistro in the front with a more formal dining area located in the rear, serving a French-inspired menu created daily by our Chefs.

My husband and I celebrated a big anniversary at this restaurant and loved every aspect of our experience. The staff couldn't have been more lovely. Our server, Ariel, was outstanding. The food and drinks were sensational. Loved it.

We were first timers celebrating our anniversary here. They gave us a quieter table upstairs for two. Much cozier and less hectic.
The food was extraordinary! Truly a gifted chef. You must try the Kaiserschmarren for dessert!!

Cocktail program is earnest. Bakers are outstanding. Zabayon was ordered twice as it was so good.
We ate our weight in baguettes.

Food and drinks receive an A+ however host/reception needs to be worked on or replaced. My friend and I get to Republique maybe 10 min early. We’re told we’re early as if it’s an inconvenience. Being there for the first time we weren’t even asked if we’d like to go to the bar because again it was my first time and I didn’t know if there was a bar. I say no problem we’ll hang tight. Host tells us our table is closing out and we’ll be seated shortly. It’s now 7:45 our reservations were at 7:30. Host, mind you we’re standing right in front of him, doesn’t even have the courtesy to say “hey guys, sorry for the wait” no just keeps letting walk ins in and showing them where the bar is! Finally at almost 8pm, again reservations were at 7:30, host says “Ingrid is there an Ingrid??” Basically left a bad taste in my mouth so early on. Thank god the food was amazing and our waitress was a 🌟. Not sure I’ll be returning.

I had a reservation through open table...and still got seated way in the front bar area on a little wooden stool...at a large family style table. I asked to move to a 2 top, and they did comply. There was a very cold draft coming from their air units!! They claim they cannot control that...but it’s January, and in the 50s....cold air should not be blowing.
Food was excellent!!! Drinks too $$

The food was outstanding. The choice of music was not the best. Music was kind of like a Hollywood dive bar. Great service.

The food was great. There were a wide variety of options from tiny bites to main dishes to dessert and the opportunity to have half glasses of wine---perfect for someone who does not drink very much. Our server was very professional, prepared and attentive.

Republique has been consistent although this place tends to overbook. Despite having a reservation, it still took about 15-20 minutes to be seated. The welcome staff were not too helpful and were poor at crowd management. Once seated, service was generally attentive. Food choices were good with some excellent creativity on cocktails and appetizers. The charcuterie was a bit mixed, however. Cheese choices were better. There was a terrific wine value offered but be careful as some wines on the wine list were way overpriced.

We arrived for our reservation, were seated at a table with two seats side by side at a table because of a water leak which was awkward. We chose to sit at the bar for dinner instead. Then I get an open table email that we did not show up

While the space has lost the charm of the stunning Campanile interior, the food and service is excellent. This would be my favorite LA restaurant, if more attention was given to the decor and esthetics of the place. Tip: Tuna tartare with caviar will explode in your mouth.

Very elegant restaurant, with a creative menu. Beignets were OK, but not outstanding. Fried mashed potatoes were not that good! Black and white salad was good, but not outstanding. Although there was a generous portion of truffles, they were not really that tasty. Bread with olive oil was excellent as was the rock fish. The desert cheese plate was well done with classy cheeses and delicious accompaniments. Service was excellent and very attentive. All in all a good experience, but not wonderful. Quite expensive.

Went there for a birthday, just two of us. Meyer lemon aperitif to begin. Butter from France on LA’s best baguette. Then —Every.single.dish was prepared with great care and exquisitely: crunchy fresh gem lettuce with green goddess tarragon vinaigrette, savory rock fish with assorted mushrooms, foie gras with a pineapple spear carmelized with Japanese sugar. Apple-based Kaiserschwarmin (sp?) was like apple mousse, so yummy. My birthday wish: to return ASAP!

One of our favorite spots for brunch, but dinner was extremely disappointing. While the brunch portions are huge, the dinner portions are quite small - especially for the price. The seats are uncomfortable, and we had to wait almost 30min after our reservation time. Will come back for brunch for the pastries and kimchi fried rice, but never again for dinner.

AMAZING! The food was soooo good. My tastebuds were doing flips at every bite! It was expensive but totally worth it. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was the perfect way to end the year!

We celebrated new year´s eve with our kids at the Republique. Service was well-timed and friendly. We had red snapper, lobster pasta and cauliflower salad. All dishes are to be shared and tasted amazing. Will definitely return next time we are in L.A.
