I honestly don’t write many reviews unless I have a 5 star experience, or a 1 star experience. I took my wife to this restaurant for our anniversary. I looked at the reviews and stars and thought it would be a great experience. Ambience and service was satisfactory. Great interior, very nice servers. The food and drinks. Ordered the Margarita Del Mar. the drink tasted like sea water and was “garnished” with a tiny rubber duck. For $19 I expected a well curated drink. It’s clear the bartender did not quality check their drink, or taste for consistency. For dinner we ordered the rolls, the chicken, and a pasta. Already off to a rough start with the drink, the food came out and presentation was 3/5. The taste was not it. I’m not sure what was going on kitchen, but heavily salted, not enough flavor or seasoning beyond salt and pepper. We both felt very disappointed with the dishes as they did not match the reviews, the ambience, or the price. After speaking with the manager, they were experiencing equipment issues with the bar, and admitted the kitchen having inconsistencies with their quality. For a professional kitchen in downtown Atlanta, I expected a lot more. We will not be returning again or recommending this restaurant to others.

This was my third visit to White Oak. One of my guests waited 11 minutes at the bar and was never offered service or greeted. Hostesses seemed confused about how to find reservations and seat tables. She apparently didn’t know there was a wine list when I asked, simply pointing to the cocktail list. Server brought the wrong white wine once I ordered, insisting it was the correct wine. At least the red wine was correct and open. A food runner placed a bunch of random food on our table until another server came and removed it. One of my party did not receive his entree until at least ten minutes after the rest of us. The server came to check on us, not realizing it. He did bring us some amazing rolls and some olives while we waited. The plate finally came and he told us the original order had actually gone to a different table (sounded familiar). Server had a good demeanor though. Lastly, the bill came and included the comp rolls and olives I had to point out. All that said…they have a really diverse and excellent wine list. Also, every food item we had exceeded expectations.

Yesterday was perfect. The food was great, service was awesome. My only recommendation is to maybe make sure your reservations are correct on this app. I made a reservation for 10:30am but apparently you don’t open till 11:30am. I was grateful you let me sit on the patio, but also someone could have maybe offered a water or something. It was really hot outside to wait for over an hour to finally be greeted by a server. Other than that, I was very happy with everything.

There is a reason I tell everyone visiting downtown Atlanta to go to White Oak! It is our DragonCon tradition and we will occasionally make a special trip downtown to have dinner there. The bar has excellent drinks and the kitchen is very solid. Every item we had was perfectly seasoned and prepared. We had: shrimp fritters, scallops, corn and crab velouté, short ribs and the charcuterie board. All fabulous. If you are in downtown Atlanta, make it a point to go to White Oak.

It was a busy night so the wait was long. Food was good but I wish the menu mentioned that the octopus appetizer was spicy. The tartare appetizer was weird.

Service was slow. Restaurant was steady busy, but no Walt for a table. The wine we ordered had "turned" and was not drinkable. It took over 20 minutes for the waitress to bring another bottle. Our food came out in 3 distant waves. The time between the first person served and the last was 10-15 minutes. The fish was overcooked and dry. Not a good experience.

Everything was great. John was very attentive to our every request. Appetizers, entrees and the peach pie were excellent. We would definitely go there again on our next trip to Atlanta.
