White Dog Cafe-Haverford
Food was consistent although one misses the panache and excitement of the real White Dog in the Judy Wicks era. Large solid appetizers, pleasant entrees, excellent dessert and drinks. A highpoint was the lilting Irish server's celebration of spring that added a festive and human touch to the meal. A solid reliable meal which is important given that the Main Line is essentially a food desert; there simply is no comparable restaurant at the nonetheless high price point within miles --this is the only choice between Philadelphia and Devon unless one wants good Asian food.
We were a party of 6 women there for book club. Everything at White Dog was top notch! The food and cocktails were delicious. Our server was knowledgeable and delightful. And, who knew, Monday is 1/2 off bottles of wine!
Chris our server was first rate. I found the dinner not up to same level I had experienced before. Certainly not terrible but the Bronzino in red sauce?? The bread not fresh but overall a decent experience.
Nice place, atmosphere, food, service. They seemed to deliver on the farm-to-table sourcing claim, though 2 in our party ordered simple pasta dishes which didn't really have opportunity to highlight ingredients. Server was excellent. Main issue was price: 4 of us with one shared appetizer, modest entree' orders (only 2 meat dishes), one shared desert, and one cocktail, no wine: $180 with 20% tip.... just a bit steep for a casual night out dining.
I realize that the restaurant can't guarantee a booth but we made reservations and were not even offered the opportunity to wait for one. The section away from the bar had tables and chairs so close to one another it was very hard to be seated and it was impossible not to hear every word of the conversation even when patrons tried to speak in low tones. Don't allow yourself to be seated on top of other patrons. It's worth the wait. I actually love the restaurant but this visit left me with a headache.
Exceptional food and the waitress was absolutely delightful!!
Six of us went for brunch on a Saturday at noon. I had made a reservation and we were seated immediately. We had only been to the White Dog in University City (which we love) and had heard mixed reviews on the one in Haverford. Food and service were outstanding. We all enjoyed our meal very much. It was a bit noisy, but nothing terrible. Entree prices were very reasonable and portion sizes were good. I thought $3.50 for a soda and $10 for a bowl of soup was a bit much, but that's where a lot of restaurants make a good bit of their money. I would definitely go there again and recommend it to others.
The quality of the food at White Dog Cafe is consistent and it is always an enjoyable experience. As one who eats with their eyes first, the presentation matches the high quality of the taste. They have tasty options for those who do not eat meat. Their drinks and desserts compliment the meals. The service and cleanliness of the restaurant completes the experience.
Chef Michael Selser is excellent. Always using fresh ingredients and keeping farm to table in mind his food is flavorful and fresh. Homemade soups are fabulous.
We always enjoy the White Dog--especially at lunch time. Wait staff is friendly, attentive, and very hospitable if you want to sit over coffee after the meal: I have never felt rushed. Good food, reasonably priced.
Celebrating a bday thought would receive a free desert
As always, the service was terrific and the food delicious.
Server was horiable. Never checked back on us, she was busy sitting and talking to her group of friends behind our table. Had to ask other servers for more water and coffee. Poor service.
What a wonderful brunch, the food was delicious and the staff professional yet very friendly. Highly recommend.
We had a lovely birthday celebration at White Dog! There were many thoughtful touches to make for a special birthday. And as always the food was delicious!
Our party of 9 people were thoroughly satisfied. Thanks very much.
Dependably good food in a comfortable atmosphere. Loved the Marsala sauce on the chicken. Perfect for a cold rainy night.
I really like the food and service at this restaurant - but please lose the mason jars used for water. Using these would be fine for an outdoor lemonade at a casual outdoor cafe, but here, it has the effect of over-casualizing the ambiance. Bring back the regular glassware, please!
We had a wonderful birthday celebration for my sister-in-law. We sat in the "living room," and it felt warm and cozy. Our server, Jonathan, was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu and the specials. All four of us ordered the scallops and risotto which was absolutely delicious. Jonathan recommended a wheat beer (the only kind I drink) which was light and tasty and hit the spot. I can't wait to go back!
Fabulous food and attentive service. Lovely atmosphere.
The food was delicious, and the service was prompt and personable. We had a wonderful time.
To exspensive. Tables very close together ,active bar
Food came quickly, which was great. Unfortunately, we sat for more than 30 minutes waiting for a bill and then for it to be taken. This was a disappointing way to end a business lunch.
Always a delicious meal! Great to come after yoga and eat healthy alternatives, or settle down with a delicious burger! Our come to place to have a nice or a quick meal.
For two soups and sharing an entree , the price point was high!
Outstanding food! Very delicious!!
Salmon was fabulous!
Chris our server was first class, very helpful with the menu since this was the first time for us to dine at White Dog.
Fabulous food and excellent service. Prices on the high side: server told us lunch is a better value and we would definitely return to try it. Arctic char entree special was particularly good.
Birthday for my girlfriend. Every person who assisted from the host to the server to the food runner all made a point to say Happy Birthday. Very great experience
one of my favorite brunch places! love the decor and especially the sunny front room.
Food was very good. Service was slow, unfriendly and cold. Perhaps she assumed that there was no good reason to give good service because the tip was automatically included for our party of 8.
Don't forget to make a reservation if you want to visit on the weekend. This place is always so busy but if you are lucky, you will get a comfortable booth and your planning ahead is all worthwhile. I always appreciate a restaurant that has gluten free bread options. I had the winter vegetable salad. The arugula was fresh but I wasn't happy with the crispy sweet potatoes. I love sweet potatoes but the taste was fried out of these. Unless you like a lot of cheese, get it on the side because it will overpower the salad. I got the avocado toast and it was a perfect compliment to the salad and made it it filling and satisfying meal. My companion got the Koch Turkey Sandwich and enjoyed every bite. But who needs all that fried food. I expect White Dog to be more innovative and offer more roasted options. Oven roast your fries and cut back on the fried foods. Main Line diners do enjoy healthy eating options and White Dog should be the place to get at least a few options.
Not a great menu for a restaurant that has a large number of women diners. Love their lunch menu.
My request for a booth or a large table was honored at the height of the lunchtime rush on a weekday. We both settled on an omlete, which was prepared to perfection . Staff was attentive but not overbearing - an excellent balance.
This was our first time at the White Dog Cafe and we enjoyed everything about it! The food was VERY good, nicely presented, with excellent and friendly service. We loved the relaxing, comfortable, and tasteful ambiance. The only drawback was that it is a bit pricey so probably a place for special times rather than a regular favorite.
Great food and always a good time. Food was very well done with great attention to detail. Served us in the bar area which is less than desire able for service and view since the rest of this place is quite nice.
The usual solid experience with interesting menu items.
The food was very good and the room where we were seated was bright, attractive and inviting. However, we were seated thirty minutes after our scheduled reservation.
My wife had shrimp and scallops for $38, there were two shrimp and two scallops. I had the New York strip steak for $41 which was choice not prime. Very noisy and packed for a Thursday night
