   It would be good to go out and drink here but don’t let the food menu fool you into coming here if you don’t drink, and definitely do not order the salmon belly blt 😭 had to send the whole thing back; it was a wad of fishy salmon meat with two pieces of bacon on an extremely dense “ English muffin” I can’t even believe how bad it was. The Brussels sprouts were good, the soup of the day was tomato basil; it was barley cambells quality and they drizzled mayo over the top :( not the best experience but the setting of the bar was nice.

   Nice business dinner. Mondays are quiet and easy to get a reservation. Food is somewhat tapas style. Great appetizers including brussels sprouts as well as charcuterie and mussels. Prices are reasonable. Many fancy cocktails to choose from.

   It was almost too loud to talk to each other, the drinks were really good, the food was ok. It’s not a place for a quick meal or drink.

   Serves a broad spectrum of craft cocktails with something for every taste: sweet, dry, smoky or brown goods. Menu is likewise, ranging from vegetarian/vegan entrees to buffalo tartare for your inner Neanderthal. Service is attentive, friendly yet unobtrusive.    I really enjoyed this place. The waitress we had was great, friendly, prompt, & attentive. I did think at times the place was rather dark with the DJ music late at night a little too loud. Perhaps it was the timing of my dinner (late Saturday night) crossing over when it became a bar or something. Regardless, I would recommend this place and definitely be back. The drinks are phenomenal.

   Slow service. This was the second time at Varley and we had the same experience before. Food was ok. DJ in a restaurant was loud enough we had to talk louder than normal. Seems like they’re confused. Is it a club? Is it a cocktail bar/lounge? We’ll likely not go back.

    The venue is nice and staff was friendly, but it feels more like a cocktail lounge. I ordered a grilled chicken salad, and the greens tasted like salad leftovers. It was really bad. I mentioned it to staff, and they just said they’d let the kitchen know so that they don’t give that to any other people. So, I still paid $22 for a pretty icky salad. If I went back, I’d just go for drinks and a chat.

    Tried Varley out for the first time. Our server was great, the appetizer was delicious. Main course dishes left lots of be desired but it is difficult to dress up southern food I guess. Lights were in a constant state of flickering and that was not great. Overall if friends told me to meet them here I would, but won’t go out of my way to come again.

    The food was much better than I was expecting. The service was a little slow, while it was a busy night just small things like asking if we wanted another round of drinks was skipped. Overall it was a great experience and the food was delicious and very high quality.

    Overall, our experience was OK. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable however it appears the rest of the staff isn't properly trained. As examples, the "host" pointed to our table instead of walking us to it and our food was delivered to the wrong table and then given to us after we noticed the mistake (having been touched by the other guests the meals should have been returned to the kitchen and redone for safety reasons). Additionally, despite clear requests for how we'd like our meat and fish prepared they were done incorrectly. At no point did anyone ask if were enjoying our meal (we really weren't). We dined at 7 p.m. and during our meal the lights were turned very low as if we were in a nightclub--at that time people are dining and want to actually see their companions and meals. Considering the menu prices we expected a higher caliber experience but it felt unprofessional.

    We were seated in an attractive, uncrowded area adjacent to the bar. High ceiling made space feel open. Service was fine, cocktails were interesting. I resist being super critical, because I'll eat and appreciate almost anything, but the only low point was the food; their interpretation of shrimp and grits with chorizo was goopy and just weird. Maybe I just ordered the one bad thing on the menu. Other dishes I noticed coming out were attractively plated.

    We really enjoyed a girls night out to Varley! The cocktail menu was creative and tasty (Shout-out to the Killer Bees! Gin Habenero honey cocktail 😍) and the food was surprisingly great. The noise level was very manageable. We did get there 10 minutes later than our reservation, but they still honored it. We did end up moving to seats at the bar so we could continue eating since there was a time limit. (1 Hour 15) all in all, really enjoyable.

    Service was really slow. It took forever for someone to wait on us and get food and drinks. The drinks were good, The food was average at best, some things were luke warm and One of our dishes was forgotten. Beautiful space but won’t be rushing to go back.

    The vibe here was dark and swanky meets club. The music was loud and the lights did a weird flickering thing. The food and service were great. They had a good drink and wine selection. We enjoyed our date, although the music was a bit loud.

    Had a great date night on NYE! Our server Carter was fantastic and provided us with several different drink recommendations. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice night out, and who does not want to break the bank!

    The place was a little too trendy for me. The tables were too close together, had someone sat at the table next to us, we may as well just dine together. The high ceilings make for an echo of all the conversations happening, and when the DJ started it was difficult to hold a conversation. For a cocktail and some fun with friends, sure, cool location. For dinner with a date where you'd like to have a real conversation without yelling at each other across the table, there are better places. Food was good, and not overly priced for the hip vibe they were trying to convey.

    The Varley has an extensive and creative cocktail list and an attractive bar. The food and service were superb. We both had the seared halibut and agreed it was the finest meal we had had in months. The Varley is conveniently located less than a block from the Eccles Theatre, so this was a pre-theatre meal for us. We will definitely return.

    This was an impromptu work dinner/drinks. We had been to the Ivy and Varley but never Varley. I think I prefer it- it seemed quieter overall. The food was delicious. The Gnocchi was incredible - the bison tartare! Shrimp and grits! Really outstanding food. Thank you.

    The server kept forgetting what we ordered, there was a super loud group of young girls drinking and yelling next to us. It’s too dark in there, can barely see my food. Feedback: 1. Train your servers to pay attention or write things down. 2. Keep the loud groups under control and ask them to be respectful toward others. 3. Add more lightbulbs or any light so people can see what they’re eating.

    I actually saw the pictures of the inside and figured the place looked like it had a great vibe and figured my Fiancé would love the light fixtures. I was right on both. We had a table for two in the back next to the DJ booth and away from the front door and it was perfect. The music was just loud enough that we could not hear anyone else’s conversation and it made us sit even closer to enjoy an intimate evening feeling like we were all alone even with a full restaurant. Food and drinks were excellent and full of flavor. We will definitely be back.
