Universal Cafe

About this restaurant

The Universal Cafe is an upscale restaurant located in San Francisco, California. Led by Head Chef Leslie Carr Avalos, The Universal Cafe has a menu and style that is rustic and refined. The dishes often take inspiration from classic cuisine and then modify it in new and exciting ways to create something that will intrigue diners. The dishes are often simple, yet done incredibly elegantly; for example, the handmade ricotta ravioli with heirloom tomatoes and Sierra Mountain chanterelle mushrooms. Not too many ingredients, but each one gets a chance to shine. The Universal Cafe also does a brunch on weekdays and weekends. Along with the sweeter and heavier options that accompany brunch, there is also a Detox Bowl which is a combination of summer lettuces, eggplant and chickpea purees, rose kokuho brown rice, a poached egg, and green tahini.
