Excellent food and service. It closes too early. At ten the vacuum cleaner and the flickering lights made us understand we had to go. It would be better to tell people that unfortunately the restaurant closes and they have to leave.

I've been here several times, and always find the food and service to be the highest quality. Plus, you can't beat the people watching if you're lucky enough to get a table by a window, since it's on the second floor right in Harvard Square!

The food was amazing. The portions are pretty big. I would recommend the Maharaja to anyone. I would definitely dine here again. The staff was extremely attentive and knowledgeable.

Wow! Wow! My wife and I have been enjoying Indian cuisine for 30 years. I cook it now and then and I do it very well. We wanted to introduce this remarkable cuisine to our nextgen cousins, so The Maharaja was their entry point. Nowhere to go now but down for them. This was exceptional. I deliberately over-ordered for the table so that we could sample as much as possible (I could tell from the menu that this would not be a reckless strategy). Service was very good the entire evening. We kept the servers very busy! First course: grilled paneer was awesome. The veggie fritters were a mistake (we ordered kabobs but who’s counting?) but were excellent. Next was a huge spread: tandoori salmon (with a tasty veggie medley), lamb vindaloo, chicken tikka Masala, chickpea curry, eggplant curry, lentils, onion kulcha, peshawari naan, mixed pickle, chutneys and raita, other spicy condiments. I’ve probably left something out. Everything but the raita (not thick enough) was A+. We were all ooing and ahhing the whole time. We also had very good wine, beer, and I had one of the best cocktails (two actually) ever: a mirchitini. A very picante gin-based cocktail with lime and cilantro. The Maharaja exceeded expectations, although the advertised “view of Harvard Square” didn’t exactly pan out. This is Indian food at its best! One important caveat: especially if you’re not experienced with Indian cuisine—but even if you are, as we are—be prepared not to feel wonderful when the meal is over. Nothing beats it going down but it can hit you like Mike Tyson at his peak when it's over. This is not a knock on Indian cuisine, which we fully embrace. It's just an important PSA. Eat a very light lunch that day.

Loved my time at the Maharaja! I loved their Paneer Tikka appetizer and Paneer Makhani entrées. They were the best I’ve had in a long time. The service is top notch too!

My husband and I visited here based on a recommendation and we are glad we did. We enjoyed delicious lamb biryani, lamb korma and goat curry with enough leftovers for another meal for both of us. The server was super friendly, helpful and attentive.

we liked all our dishes. but we asked for authentic hot and spicy dishes, and received mild and non spicy food. (we specifically asked to make it as they would at home.) it was very disturbing as we've been constant customers for many years. even before the fire and rebuild. none of this was the servers fault. she was charming. we have very enthusiasticly recommended The Maharaja over the past many years. but can not do so at present. len

A bit expensive compared to its competition, and one drink came to the table incorrect. The service seemed to be avoiding us a bit but maybe they were just giving us space. We both asked for medium spice and it was barely mild. Ambiance was great, the food was all tasty.

The food was prepared expertly and was very delicious. We had the Chicken Saag, Channa Massala, Tandor Chicken, garlic Naan, cucumber salad, and Veg & Chicken Samosas. The service was perfect, very attentive without being intrusive. Excellent Restauant!!

The service and ambiance was excellent. The only problem was I ordered no heat and my dining companion ordered mild. My meal ended up being somewhat hot, and my companion’s meal had no heat. In spite of the mix up the food was tasty and wonderfully prepared. I did not tell the waitress about the error. I am certain it would have been rectified immediately if I had. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

This is the first review I have ever given on OpenTable after being a part of the network for many many years. This restaurant has the best Indian food in Boston. I can’t recommend it enough. An incredible menu with a vast array of selections, very traditional flavors, and the service was exceptional. It is one of our favorite places to go in Boston. Ask to sit by the window so you can see the square. Exceptional service exceptional food can’t wait to return!

We enjoyed our window table (views, private, quiet) and the server was nice. The food, however, was very bland. The Tikka Masala sauce had excessive cream. The Seekuh Kababs lacked seasoning. Dal that came with the Tandoori was overcooked and bland. Pricey for what you get. Will not return.

the food has been much better in the past. Recently the Malai Kofta dish did not taste as it has in the past and was disappointing. On the other hand the Vindaloo was very flavorful and spicy.
