Big disappointment! The restaurant was almost empty so lacked atmosphere but we think there were private dining rooms being served. Having no fish or tomahawk steaks left was not a great start. Waiting over 30 minutes for starters that involved very little cooking was not great either and we complained. The crudities and the duck salad and the prawns were ok, the tartare was an unusual presentation but also ok. All were expensive when compared to other good local restaurants, especially £9 for a very ordinary prawn cocktail with about half a dozen prawns.
As the aim is said to be to make this place the best steak restaurant in the NW we all tried the steaks. They come with two sides which can be swapped for others. We all changed from string chips to fat chips and that was a mistake. These were not 'to die for' chips. The veg and sauce were ok but unremarkable. The fillet steak lived up to its billing. The rib-eye was acceptable. One of the two sirloins was also acceptable but the other was over-cooked and had to be sent back. The replacement was better cooked but was clearly a rib-eye and a very fatty one at that.
We felt sorry for the server who kept being put in a difficult position by the kitchen and who coped as best she could. The steak was knocked off the bill but that is little consolation.
The steaks and the bottle of wine we had were all more expensive than at several noteable restaurants in the Bolton area, never mind the NW but also not as good.
We were drawn by the Heathcote reputation but were really disappointed to the extent that we won't be going back.
