The Gregory at The Watermark Hotel is the premier destination for modern food & wine in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Located off the lobby of the hotel, in the former Bank of Louisiana, our restaurant is centered between an open kitchen and a full bar surrounded by murals painted by the artists of who the restaurant is named after, Angela Gregory. Chefs Justin Lambert and Jace Schexanydre design menus that utilize fresh and local produce and available organic proteins that offer twists on Southern classic in a modern farm-to- table menu. As a Louisiana-native, Justin brings an influence of Southern cooking styles employing our wood-stone oven, Spanish Josper oven and cast-iron grill to elevate flavors and create one of a kind dishes in the downtown Baton Rouge area.

The Gregory is a lobby restaurant next to bar, as such a little louder than I’d like. Ask about table away from bar and that would help. I was by myself and the two-top tables are near the bar. Food and service were very good. Also has a good breakfast.

Cocktails and music were great. The fish special was good but red snapper was over seasoned and broccolini very salty. Limited menu/out of a few dishes, one of which my daughter would've ordered.

Service was excellent. The food was not the greatest you'll find at a finer dining experience but also not far off. The desert and drinks were great. Lighting was perfect and restaurant was quiet enough to have casual conversation without interruption. That's hard to find at most Baton Rouge restaurants.

The vibe was pretty good. The food portions were small. The drinks were also pretty good. I probably wouldn’t return back here they were way over priced for what they are offering. You’d probably do better just going to a similar restaurant without all the fancy stuff and eat better food for half the price.

We did not have a good experience. I made a reservation but it took 15/20 minutes for the hostess to approach us to greet and provide seating. We ordered and when the food was brought out an entree was missing - a BLT sandwich. Thirty (30) minutes passed and still no sandwich so when we finally got the server back we canceled the sandwich and got the check. The food was lackluster. We all decided to not return. If a restaurant cannot execute an order for a BLT in a timely manner then there are issues with the management and kitchen staff.

I’m a hotel guest so just wanted to eat and get up to my room…which this is perfect for. I don’t know that I would make a special trip here for the restaurant. The bar is lovely. The food was good. Not great— but good. I was one of three tables on a Friday night so we each had our own server. The bar served fresh cocktails with fresh juices. Delish.

It was Chrismas evening, but even so, an up-scale hotel should ensure the restaurant is adequately staffed. Maybe the restaurant is a concession, yet they should also strive to offer guests to best experience at any time. Waitperson was untrained, the kitchen was a disaster, and the management was fourth-rate at best. After waiting almost 45 minutes for a cold pate platter, we were told it had been sold through and unavailable; how, upon ordering or the waitperson keying in a ticket no one knew immediately indeed shows a lack of professionalism. After I asked, the manager on duty did comp us a round of drinks. His original offer was another appetizer, but our dinner orders were in, or so we hoped. Starving, I asked for bread service and was told we would need to pay, no problem, but what was supposed to be crostini was poorly warmed PO-boy bread; let's at least call things what they are, no need to embellish or make a culinary faux-pas to make something seem "fancy." When starter salads and soup finally arrived, we were pleased, but the gumbo....although tasty, was not authentic; it would have been better using a bottled roux by Savoie. About four minutes into our starters, the mains arrived - abysmal timing and a flustered server and manager; we conceded to just letting them sit on the table. My sister had the redfish, MISTAKE, overcooked and cold, bland as cardboard, simply inedible. My husband had the pasta with shrimp, the smallest shrimp in Louisiana (that isn't called gumbo shrimp), and a sauce straight out of a jar, which was disgusting. I had the pork chop, it was properly cooked. On a good note, the drinks are great; sit at the bar and have a drink in this lovely room. The burgers coming out looked good, but the people attempting to eat them did not look overjoyed. After the bar, many other places around downtown serve fantastic food. If we go out again on a holiday, we won't try something new, we will stick with the tried and true.

Our waitress was super friendly and did an incredible job. We left saying the best thing about that was the bottomless mimosas even though we each had 2. The food was all cold and we had one of the first seatings at 11:30 so no excuse. The gumbo would have been better if it had not just tasted like a dark roux (really had no spices in it). Husband is a duck eater so was happy to have on the menu but again it was cold. The ham was filled with fat (definitely not honey baked ham). We chose The Gregory because we new the owner and figured it would be up to par. Its unfortunate but we will not be back for any buffet service .

Host was nowhere to be found when we arrived. Hotel manager had to go track him down (we were not the only customers this was required for). They had our reservation on file, but seemed to have forgotten to actually hold a table for us. Once seated, the server was great and very attentive. The food was good but a bit overpriced for what it was and took a long time to come out. The kitchen was out of multiple appetizers. Overall experience was ok, but wouldn't come back.

The food was good enough but not nearly as good tasting or well made as the menu would make you think and it was certainly overpriced for what we got. It was like they had all the right ingredients but someone in the back didn't really know how to assemble them or cook them all that well. My duck was overcooked, and the oysters and pork belly were kind of tasteless and strangely assembled. The mushrooms and peppers were okay but could have easily been better. The mushrooms were very tasty but sparse and chopped up small and sprinkled on top. Our servers were all very sweet but flaky and obviously young and new. Also, something you would be fine with if the price point wasn't so high. Overall, it didn't ruin our evening but it was nothing special. I won't be going back unless I hear they have improved a lot.

My wife and I were going to a Sunday night show at Manship Theater, so we thought we'd try The Gregory for dinner after having enjoyed a light snack and drinks while seated at the bar a week earlier. So I booked a table for 90 minutes prior to the show, figuring we'd have ample time to eat and walk the very short distance to the venue. I figured wrong. Or more correctly, I estimated the required time under normal circumstances. But if "normal" is being seated at a table at 5:57 p.m. and then waiting for a server to return after bringing water and a drink menu, then having to bail to the bar at 6:32 p.m. after sensing the futility of expecting him to ever return, then I guess I'm just too demanding a customer. Even the manager on duty, after stopping by the table to reassure us of the AWOL waiter's imminent return, was unable to muster the guy from whatever was requiring his undivided attention. To the manager's credit, he at least took the time to apologize to us and comp whatever food and drink we would have in the abbreviated time we had left sitting at the bar. Lastly, I don't typically like to complain about food if it was served to me comped, but we ended up just ordering the same flatbread plates we had enjoyed the week before. They were totally different this time, and not in a good way. It was as though they were prepared in a completely different kitchen. The "Seersucker" was notable for its totally changed - and pretty radically so - ingredient portioning (what happened to the caramelized red onions that were so good last time?!), as well as the unpleasantly overcooked mountain of arugula on top that had all the taste appeal of the hot, stringy boiled spinach served in a junior high cafeteria. At least the bartender was courteous and attentive. I put a $10 on the bar for his troubles and we left, resolute that it's the last time I'll ever attempt to dine at The Gregory. Such a waste of a beautiful space.

The drinks were great. Had two cocktails. Both were excellent. The appetizer, Crawfish Cake, was excellent. Would order again. Entrees were so-so. I had the duck. For some reason, the duck came with a boatload of peppers and maybe 6 or 7 tator tots. The ratio was really off. The pieces of the duck were rather small too. I left a bit hungry. I would not order this again or recommend it. One of the pieces of duck had quite a bit of fat on it. The other entree ordered was the seersucker pizza. That was tasty. Would recommend that. We also had the bread pudding dessert with ice cream on top. That was delicious. Order that again too. The vibe of the restaurant was nice. The only thing bad was my entree. I should have ordered the chicken. It sounded delicious. Next time I will.
