I stop in to The Federal every time I visit Atlanta. I can always count on a consistently good meal and a great bourbon selection!
Wonderful dinner, will go back! Food was fabulous. Atmosphere is dark and intimate, and we feels like you are in Europe.
We really enjoyed hearing about the specials and details about the menu. When they we’re energetically shared by the server at the table next to ours and we overheard them. Our server was infrequent and seemed rushed. We waited a long time for drinks as well as food. The food, however, was excellent. Was not as impressed with the steak as much as a prior visit, but the sides and other entrees were very good. Our water was refilled so aggressively (twice) that it spilled onto the table.
The food was excellent. The service, not so much.
Food was good, server ruined what could have been a nice night. After 20 minutes at the table, I checked with the host to ensure someone had been assigned to us...the server arrived shortly afterward and as best we could tell from his demeanor, this may have been an unforgivable offense. At the 60 minute mark, a food runner noticed us looking around with nothing on the table and offered to bring us some bread. She and the host were gracious and the meal was fine when it arrived, we just wished we had the service that the tables around us were receiving from other servers.
Angus filet was cooked perfectly to order and very tender. Sides were great, especially the mushrooms and Brussels sprouts.
The service was great but the food was underwhelming. Steak was over salted and Brussels were mediocre
The steak and service was amazing. Might come back to try the happy hour Prix Frixe menu at the bar next time.
Enjoyed a great meal. All the staff was so wonderful. Great evening.
Celebrated a birthday lunch with friends. All was excellent.
We took my Mother to the Nutcracker so made reservations early before the show. We had previously had lunch here but not dinner. The restaurant was not full as we were early. I have to give a shout out to our waiter. I do not remember his name but he was awesome. He made a great recommendation to try the new Bordeaux on the menu and it was much appreciated. It was an excellent wine for the price. We had Charcuterie as an app - incredible meats - a little more cheese would have been nice but I am a mouse in a different life. My husband and I shared two meals - the hamburger and the special of the night mussels in a white wine sauce. I don't think I have ever had mussels that big before. They were awesome. Once again our waiter stepped in and recommended we switch out one of the fry sides for something else and we picked Brussels sprouts - huge side by the way and perfectly cooked. My Mother tried the pork schnitzel with the toppings and loved it. We were too full for dessert. I would definitely return and appreciate the great service.
Most of us thought our food was outstanding. Burger not so great.
The waiter was a little overwhelmed and some of our items were delayed. The restaurant was busy for a Monday night.
The Federal never disappoints. We shared a wonderful family dinner here in the early evening before walking to the Botanical Gardens. Service was spot on including great recommendations for food and wine. We all found the filets to be some of the best we’ve ever had. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and flavorful. Pommes frites are a must.
Not a place for a business lunch. One server to the whole place. Food came out wrong, waited for water refills etc and then the icing on the cake is I left with someone’s to go order. Super messy establishment for a business lunch. Will not recommend or be back to try again. To be on crescent, you lack the business hustle and bustle.
I went here for brunch with my family and everyone's food was delish! Service was great and the mimosa's were yummy! Would like to come back to try the regular menu.
This was our first trip to this restaurant. Our service was outstanding. However, it was so incredibly loud in this restaurant, that even at our table for two, we had a hard time communicating. I had to practically yell my order to the server so she could hear me. I had to resort to pointing and nodding. I often had no idea what she was saying, though she was very kind and attentive. The food was pretty foot, but I think the loudness of the restaurant just took away from the experience. In addition, our seats were so close to the people at the tables behind each of us, that we often bumped into one another. The tables on the perimeter seemed fine, but the tables in the center were too close. That can also ruin the ambiance of a romantic evening. This was intended to be a special occasion dinner. Unfortunately, for $150-200 for two, it did not turn out that way.
Good food, very good service, cozy ambiance. Chicken liver and wild mushrooms were very good. Ribeye was good and cooked the way we asked ( medium rare) but not the best we’ve ever had. Our waiter was really good, gave us good food and wine recommendations without being aggressively polite.
The veggie sandwich I’ve ordered before - and I ordered it again. It way too salty (I think it’s the fried tofu?). And very fatty. A lot of avocado and avocado sauce - and not much taste except for salt. And not a lot of options on the menu for other non-meat dishes.
My spouse and I went here for dinner to celebrate! We split a few items and everything we had was really good. The crab cake - all crab. Rich and absolutely delicious. The 12oz Wagyu Steak - WOW! In my opinion this was one of the best steaks I have ever had and this is coming from someone who loves Ruth Chris, Hals, Rathburns, Marcels, and has even had famous steaks in Argentina. I thought it was fabulous and cooked to perfection! We also got the truffle mushrooms - they were great! Different type of mushroom then we are used to but delightful still! Would highly recommend! My only complaint was the music - they were trying to play vinyl and it kept skipping and was WAY too loud considering how small the place is - but this has nothing to do with the food/or service!
Walking into the place, the atmosphere is very cool. Definitely has a laid-back but upscale vibe. The menu is definitely focused on steak so that is what we ordered. We got the Manhattan which is supposed to be their signature dish and we were somewhat disappointed. The steak didn’t have anything unique or special about it. We also ordered salmon with the two sides and that was decent. For the price, I definitely think other restaurants offer more so we were a bit disappointed.
Fue una comida de negocios en un ambiente ameno, una buena variedad de platos para el almuerzo, comida muy sabrosa, buen servicio, volvería por la noche también.
Excellent food...very friendly wait staff....good wine list. Best pork scnitzel in Atlanta.
The new track lighting is HORRIBLE. Makes me never want to go there for lunch ever again. I have been a weekly customer for months.
Great food, excellent service! I appreciate that they welcome my little Yorkie on the patio.
Great service and an awesome (+really good value) whiskey list.
Food was mostly too heavy handed. Salads were way over dressed, steak good quality, but over salted. Sides (okra + mushrooms) were the highlight.
My husband and I have been meaning to try this restaurant for sometime since it had gotten such good reviews when it first opened, but it either wasn’t on opentable or was completely booked every time we tried to make a reservation. We finally saw an opening for a Saturday night and planned to try it on a date. It’s a fairly small dining room, dimly lit which I tend to appreciate. However, there was a huge tv on the wall in the bar that sufficiently suffocated any romantic atmosphere they were attempting. The hostess was late to greet us and if it wasn’t her first night on the job the owner should replace her immediately as she was barley interested and made her easy job look frightfully difficult. The wait service and the food were both quite good minus the pricey steak that arrived over cooked. By far, though, the worst part of the experience was when the hostess seated a couple at the table 2 inches next to us despite all the empty options throughout the dining area. After that, there was zero chance of carrying on our own conversation or avoiding the sound of them chewing the rest of the evening.
Started by watching our dining neighbors order a dozen oysters. I guess they got the last of em’, even though there were all of 3 dining partys’ in the whole place. Sorry, no oysters for you. Drinks were expensive (not a big deal) but they make sure and not pour a minuscule drop over 1 1/2 ozs.....liquid gold in their view apparently. Their specialty steak was average (at best) and fillet of the day salmon had to go back....just didn’t taste right. Not a good experience for us and too many places in Atl that have it together to waste time and money here.
A very interesting menu. Many wine choices. Good bar scene.
We really enjoyed our evening. Jessica, our server, was outstanding, friendly, and professional!!!!
Poor service from the get-go: at the entrance, the 2 employees i could see didn't greet us. No hostess station either. So we stood there not knowing how to proceed--maybe we should just seat ourselves? After a few minutes a server did greet and seat us. Food was blah (my smoked pork sandwich was dry and bread like a cheap deli roll, my friend's salad was crammed in a too-mall bowl and he said it was almost inedible, especially the funky hen mushrooms.) No salt and pepper shakers on table, and when I requested them she pointed to a tiny bowl on the table with large salt crystals, not appealing -- who knew whose fingers had already been there? I asked for a regular salt shaker, perhaps from the kitchen or bar? How do they salt the rim for a margarita? No dice, just another bowl of salt crystals was the remedy.
Won't be going back.
Great little local place with a cozy atmosphere. Food and service is amazing..worth every penny! We go there almost every week for dinner.
A unique menu and excellent service - Michael took great care of our table and was a joy to interact with too! The Black-eyed soup special was delicious , as well as the Liver pate’ appetizer - the only negative of the dinner evening was the noise level - which made conversations more challenging. I would definitely recommend The Federal and return myself.
Probably the best Steak I’ve had in Atlanta. Love the atmosphere.
outstanding food! really enjoyed the service as well.
Best newish restaurant in Midtown. Popularity has made it noisier and lunch service was slow for a business meal. But all in all we love The Federal.
Terrific food and excellent service. Very enjoyable...we'll be going back soon.
Great brunch and service. Good coffee. Quaint location.
Food Is excellent, we would go more often if the service wasn’t so spotty. We have had to wait excessively for waters, wine, and silverware, even when the place is half full or less.
Disappointed. Went on a Friday evening and it was half full. And half of those people were at one table. Still, the noise was so loud I could barely hear over my own table. And the menu was simplified, yet still fairly overpriced to comperable restaurants. My filet was actually perfectly cooked, however. But the watermelon salad, at $12, was mostly just chunks of watermelon and feta. Only a couple hints of herbs and nothing else. I don't see this restaurant surviving much longer, unfortunately.
