The Derby is more than a restaurant. Established in 1922, it has been family owned and operated since 1951. It is a grand museum showcasing some of horse racing’s greatest moments. Diners are invited to take a break from the rush of modern life and travel back to the time of George Woolf, Seabiscuit, and relive the excitement of “The Race of the Century”. We excel in offering the best meat and fresh seafood hand selected by our longtime executive chef that would delight even the most discriminating of taste. The restaurant was very well presented. We weren’t greeted very warmly. The starters were good. The steak was undercooked and the lamb was cold. A $325 meal I expected better.

Been meaning to try The Derby for a while. It's local to us but never seemed to remember it. However, for a recent special occasion, we made reservations and mentioned the occasion. They gave us a great table and congratulated us on the occasion. From maitre-D to the server, all were friendly. The filet mignon was superb, and easily as good as Morton's where I've eaten many times. Even the valet parking was efficient. We'll be back for our next special meal.

The Derby is supposed to be a fine dining steak restaurant in Arcadia, California. It has a long history. Unfortunately, it is outdated. I had my worst filet mignon last night at The Derby. I ordered their Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon and asked for medium. It came out as well done plus. The meat was stale and salty throughout the meat. It tasted as the meat was soaked in salt water for days. The only flavor was saltiness. They gave me a replacement which had an undercooked bacon wrap. Both the waiter and manger apologized. The ambient of the interior of the restaurant was dark, noisy and uncomfortable. After the COVID, they kept the cheaply setup outdoor dining area. It was high 90 degree yesterday, even in the late afternoon. The charged for fine dining prices but delivered below average quality food and value. They should close down that cheap outdoor dining area and focus more on quality. I already crossed out The Derby from my restaurant list.

Not the same quality as in past visits! Service was great and attentive. Steaks smothered in sauce instead of letting the taste of a good steak shine through. Needed a fish option as a special.

Derby is no longer the same. The low rating is a reflection of the restaurant management. We revisited for dinner last night, many favorite entrees including the bone in filet and scallops were taken off the menu, the wedge salad no longer came with ice cold forks... etc. We were charged additional fees for substituting vegetables to baked potatoes without being informed, it's nominal amount comparing to our dinner bill, we would have gladly said yes if we were informed by the waitress; what's fascinating was that the manager decided to leave the additional fees on our bill even after he came over to "understand" the situation, such pity, we just laughed and left a big tip. But we will not return here again. You might want to think twice before going.

Patio is more enclosed than most resulting in more noise and less air movement. Our round table in a corner was nice for six but the ceiling dripped periodically on the host’s head. Five of six diners were happy with their steak and salmon entrees; the one pasta entree was deemed tasteless - no cheese or pepper was offered for it or a Caesar salad. A surprise complimentary and tasty dessert was served to honor the two couples celebrating 50 yr wedding anniversaries. Service was good.

For our 43rd aniversary dinner we showed on time, but waited a few minutes next to some dude in shorts and flip-flops with a huge Bowie knife strapped to his belt. was seated; ordered a well dirty martini (why the up charge?) Ordered a bottle of Cab and waiter 45 minutes drinking water (great busboy). No waitress. ordered another slice of bread(why the up charge?) Ordered two Centenials with upgrades. Baked potato; up charged for the sour cream. I grew up dinning around the track, from Benny's Clubhouse, Eaton's Santa Anita, Klockers Korner, etc. What's happening to our idea of a special dinner out?

The Derby hasn't changed in the last 50 years I have been going there. Excellent "old opulence" decor, excellent menu and perfectly prepared dishes, superb service, and reasonable prices for the whole package! What a delight it is to go there!

Outside seating was warm. Was sat by the fireplace, which gives off good ambiance, but is too warm for summer evenings. Server was very kind, but busy, so we waited a bit for basics like steak knives, water refill. My steak was a tad over cooked. I asked for medium rare. Was medium plus. Still a great dining option. We’ll return.

The Derby exceeded our expectations! Our party of 5 was promptly seated and water given. We were there to celebrate two birthdays. Service and food were excellent and everyone enjoyed their meal. Prime dip, filet sandwich, chicken Marsala and Cobb salad with steak-Outstanding!! Wonderful meringue and ice cream set ablaze was a delight. Kudos to your chef, server and staff!!!

We recently celebrated an anniversary and the staff made us feel very special. The food was great and we were seated by one of their beautiful fire places. They also provided a complimentary dessert due to our special celebration.

Food was really wonderful and service was much better than I've had at other restaurants, lately! We sat at a table in the bar, rather than outside, because it was too hot. The folks at the front desk really did a great job of accommodating us on the spur of the moment.

My husband & I celebrated our wedding anniversary & our experience was great. The food was delicious, came out in a timely manner. Our server was friendly. I love that when we’re seated to our table we had a special note on our table wishing us a happy anniversary. Just as a side note the ambiance is nice our table lighting is dim where I needed to use my iPhone flashlight to see the menu. We will be back.

Probably the best dining experience we’ve ever had. The food was delicious- we found ourselves eating much slower than usual because we didn’t want it to end. The service was impeccable. Each time a wine glass was empty our wonderful server magically appeared to refill it. And the garlic cheese toast as well. The wine list is expansive so it took a little while to choose. This was our first time at The Derby and we will definitely be back again.
