The Commoner in Downtown Pittsburgh is open for business!

At our gastropub, we don’t distinguish between commoners and kings; we just want to feed the good people of Pittsburgh. In the restaurant, seasonal menus add a modern flair to classic comforts, complemented by a robust selection of local beers and craft spirits. It’s all served in an industrial-inspired setting in downtown Pittsburgh. Come and join us for an uncommonly good time.

The Commoner is a great option if you're in the Kimpton or that neighborhood in Pittsburgh. The food is great (I had brunch and dinner), service is fast, friendly, and super helpful! I had a comfortable booth for brunch where I got a lot of work done, but also a lovely table to meet with a colleague for dinner. Definitely recommend whether you're staying at the hotel or nearby!

We have been to The Commoner pre-COVID. I thought it was better this time. Our server was super knowledgable about the menu and helping us decide. The apps, mains, and desserts were all superb. Drinks were original and tasty. While it was a bit pricey, for a special occasion, it is well worth it.

We went to Commoner for an anniversary dinner on a Sunday evening. The space is lovely and has an industrial, moody vibe. The way the tables were set up meant that we got to hear our neighboring table’s drama, which, while slightly amusing, was not ideal. The server was attentive and efficient and made sure all our issues were addressed. My cosmo was the best I have had since moving to Pgh, and my husband enjoyed his draft beer. We ordered focaccia (tasty enough), the shishito peppers (produce good, but sauce had no flavor). Salmon over broccolini (perfectly fine, but nothing a home cook or the hot bar at Whole Foods could not have done) and the pasta with short rib ragú (came out lukewarm, they generously made a new one, but it was still very bland). So in summary, The Commoner is a nice spot to stop for a drink, but all the food was, meh.

Not a repeat. Beet salad had 1 small beet and flavors which did not go together. Crispy potatoes served in a small skillet and kept falling on the table. Ball park potatoes with cheese are just as good for less. Halibut good but overpowered by sauce. Over breaded pork had parts that even the provided steak knife couldn't cut. Chocolate ganache had liquid sauce due to heat of other ingredients. A number of items listed on menu are served in an unexpected manner (e.g., roasted eggplant served as pureed eggplant).

The half roasted chicken dish was outstanding. Best I have ever had. The tomato watermelon salad could have been much better with a different base (while the tomatoes were fresh and watermelon refreshing, the ricotta cheese base was mushy and tasteless). Service excellent and nice wine list. Very pleasant experience

The food was outstanding! A little bit of confusion on there being two separate dining areas, one being the rooftop which is primarily a beer / bar place, and the main restaurant which is within the hotel, I made reservations thinking I can go eat on the rooftop but it wasn't the same selection...

Great food and cocktails, but quite high pricing for such small portions. Waitstaff didn't even suggest additional sides or a salad to help round out the protein (we assumed there would be some veggie/side on the plate at least).

Dark and sexy ambiance serving up delicious food. I was having a hard time deciding between the blistered shishito peppers and the roasted beet salad and although the salad was good, it lacked a little flavor and I wish I had chosen the peppers. Not to fret, the maiitake more than made it for the beet salad. It was so delicious and I could tell that the pasta was fresh. The maiitake was not too heavy, leaving room for the chocolate ganache and it was so on point, I tried to finish it although I was making myself sick, but eventually, I had to throw in the towel. They have a couple of mocktails on the menu and I chose the lady may that was very refreshing. Rebecca was my waitress and she was great!
