Indian
The Bombay Bread Bar is Chef Floyd Cardoz's love letter to the glorious food and culture of his native India, serving riffs on Bombay's street foods and traditional dishes reimagined. Nestled in the heart of SoHo, the colorful and vibrant space was designed by set designer Kris Moran, a longtime member of director Wes Anderson's creative team.

Great ambiance, even better food. The bread and chutney is a must get to start. Egg Kurziwal is Chef Floyd's speciality, so be sure to get that. I also got the Prix Fixe menu and while it is a lot of food, it's great taste so many different dishes. Will def come back!

Food, service, atmosphere are all excellent. We told our server we needed to be out by a certain time for theater and the kitchen did a fine job of not just sending out the dishes, but also spacing them out really well. If I could make one small improvement it's to have a few dishes that are toned down in terms of flavor. All the dishes are so excellent, but by the end of dinner my palate was a little exhausted. Definitely go to this place and bring a group.

We had a delicious dinner (kulcha special was exceptional) and our servers were excellent. Unfortunately the young woman who seated us must hate her job. She was surly, rude, and apparently we were a huge inconvenience in her day. She seemed to treat everyone with the same disdain. I hope she's related to the owner otherwise there is no explanation for keeping her on.

Super rude manager, a well deserved 1 star. We had an 8pm reservation, we called 10 minutes before to tell them that we were running a bit late. We were there 12 minutes past, checked in, they tried to seat the three of us at a table that was clearly for two people. When we asked for an alternative the manager said we arrived past our alloted time which was 15 minutes. When I showed him the time on my phone, which was 8:18pm, and we had been there for several minutes by that time, he said (direct quote from him) 'yours is apple time, I have a different watch'. So we left without sitting down. Clearly never going back. Too many good restaurants in the city to tolerate this kind of behavior. BTW we moved to Sola Pasta Bar nearby and had an excellent meal, highly recommended.

Without question, the BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT IN NYC!!!! I have eaten here several times and each time it is an incredible experience. The food is superb, the service is lovely and the room and ambiance is wonderful. I can't recommend BBB enough. Go with friends, order everything and then share it all. Floyd Cardoz is a culinary and hospitality genius.

Outstanding food - not sure if they were understaffed but our waitress had a lot of trouble with our order. It took a very long time to get our order, and I ended up getting some food I am allergic to despite sharing that allergy 3 times (I caught the mistake luckily before eating). But aside from that the food is delicious (really unique fusion menu), and I didn't die from the allergy, so 4 stars ;)

So disappointing. A waiter didn’t show up for a good 10 minutes to our table. No menus. They wanted us to order food at the same time we ordered cocktails. Few recommendations on the menu. Naan was burnt. Fish not memorable. Donut dessert was ice cold. Who wants to eat an ice cold donut? The kulfi was good. Not going back. Ugh.

This was the best Indian that I have had. We ordered about 3/4 of the menu and everything was incredible. The three-chili chicken was a bit spicy for me, but it still had good flavor. The lamb curry, egg toast, and pork rib vindaloo were standouts, not to mention the breads which I could’ve made a meal on with chutneys alone. I’ll be back, many more times.

Food was good to wonderful. For three of us we each had two small plates plus a bread product. All the breads were very good; four of the six small plates were fabulous, the other two were good but nothing special. The noise became annoying by the time we finished around 8pm, between the music and the crowded tables. I would definitely go back though. I have the Flavorwalla cookbook and the food didn’t disappoint.

Excellent food. We were happy with everything we ordered - dal and onion kulcha (skip the mint chutney - meh), upma, egg toast, crab cakes, dal, lemon rice. The whiskey based and the Durga something cocktails were delightful. Dessert was nothing special though. The price looks a bit on the higher side on the menu but $193 + tip for 2 with drinks is acceptable in NYC.

Great food!! Was so full that we couldn’t have dessert and will plan to go back for that.
Counter seating was cramped and a little uncomfortable though. (normal seating was sold out!)
Servers were very friendly but the food took a long time to arrive and they only brought out one item at a time so we couldn’t eat things together - I’m guessing this was because of the counter space. Not sure if they do this for normal seating as well.

This was a gathering of 6 of us for my birthday. Me and hubby were at the bar 30 minutes before our reservation and enjoyed the fabulous cocktails at the bar. Great crowd and vibe.
Our table was super tiny but we made it work, this is the Village after all. The ambiance and decor are beyond fun and charming. We ordered 80% of the food on the entire menu, it was all to die for. Soooo tasty and satisfying. Did I mention the cocktails?
This was a fabulous venue for my birthday and can’t wait to go back for a casual get together next time.

The food was amazing and the menu really offers a new take on Indian cuisine. Items such as the Kerala Fried Chicken, Cheddar Cheese Naan and Goan Crab Cakes are innovative, but still keep an authentic Indian taste. The service at Bombay Bread Bar is also great and with the modern ambiance, the combination makes for a 5 star dining experience.

The food was great (so I would still recommend because of that plus the fun/trendy ambiance). The service, however, was so poor it was almost unbearable. We had a 9:30pm reservation and got sat at 10:15pm! The hostess agreed that it was ridiculous.. but what could she do? Then it took forever to get drinks or even a minute of our server's attention. We started placing new drinks orders about half way into our current drinks so that he would get them at a reasonable time after finishing. Then when we ordered all our food, the server said we had to order all at once because last call from the kitchen was in the next few minutes.. considering we had a reservation 45 minutes beforehand this was quite frustrating. Loved the food itself, the atmosphere, and location.. but they need to get their service together.

Superb cocktail list. Completely underwhelming dinner.
-Egg toast- heavy unbalanced garam masala
-Chat- soupy dal with pomegranate and chickpeas with fried Puri crushed table side
-Cauliflower and paneer ‘Makhani’- very liquid gravy, with 3 tiny pieces of cauliflower and one blob of paneer. It was like fishing for the last pieces at a dinner buffet in a vat of gravy. The server was kind enough to comp this dish.
-Kulcha with caramelized onions and dal- the bread was good and filling was nice. We used the soup/makhani from above as a dipping agent.
-Chili Chicken- 6 bite sized pieces of chicken, well-marinated. Presentation was odd as there were nested amongst many spirals of jalapeños. I suppose they needed to fill up the dish somehow.
The bartender, servers, and front staff were all very nice. It is a great scene and fun place for drinks.

The food was delicious but the service wasn’t - had to wait a further 40minutes for table even though I had a reservation! And the server said ‘this is common in NYC - if you eat out?’ Ill informed and offensive - they should train staff to not say such silly things. I would have left if we hadn’t already waited to long!

Food was good, as has been my experience here in the past. Service was not good. We were seated on time, then waited a good 10 minutes before a server came to take our drink order after we'd asked a bus person to send someone over. Food came entirely too fast, while drinks were delayed. Check was presented before we asked for it, and my companion's drink was pulled away from the table before she was finished. Server did not ask whether she was done (there was still a sip or two left), nor did server ask if she wanted a refill. Management immediately started circling our table waiting for us to pay. Pressure to turn a table, especially on a Tuesday night, following bad service, does not go unnoticed.

This would be a five-star review, except for some real service issues that made the evening drag on for much longer than it should have. And it seemed we were the only table that suffered very long delays before our first course arrived, and between courses. This was a Restaurant Week dinner - extremely interesting and numerous options - and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was delicious, but it took forever for the first course (just some bread and chutneys) to arrive. And then there was another long pause before our appetizers came. There was also an incomplete drink order that no one on the staff seemed to realize was incomplete until we pointed it out to them.

Our server was delightful, and helped us understand what some of the menu options were. But clearly, something in the kitchen went awry with our order, and we didn't finish our meal for almost 2 hours. Every other table in the less-than-crowded restaurant ate much more quickly, and were served their food much faster than we were.

Chef Floyd never disappoints at the Bread Bar. The food is just amazing, I could go there every night. His concept for the Kulcha Klub is just brilliant - we tasted Chef Daniel Boulud Kulcha made for Bread Bar and it was delicious. This restaurant is a must go and often - date night, with friends and family or private party!

Host has an attitude problem and was very rude when saying that he only sits complete parties. Paneer dish actually has no paneer in it (2 small cubes), other appetizers were mediocre at best. Lamb dish hints of lamb, it’s mainly mashed potato. Main dish chicken tikka was so burnt that we couldn’t eat it. You will overpay for everything, from naans to even the chutneys and papadum that are usually free at any Indian restaurant. Really hard to understand the hype around this place. May be due to location or decor. It’s completely overpriced and disappointing.
