The Bombay Bread Bar
Although the food was excellent, I would not recommend The Bombay Bread Bar to a friend. It took 1 hour for our Masala Chai to arrive, and it was nothing great. My friend and I made our reservation for brunch, so not having a standard drink like chai available was a big turn-off! Everything item we ordered was delayed. The waiters were nice and friendly but the overall service really disappointed me.
Overall great place for some nice drinks and lunch with unique menu. It can get expensive pretty quickly but at least drinks are well made (not skimping on alcohol as many restaurant bars tend to do). Service can be a bit chaotic and erratic and waiters are courteous once you are seated.
Service was great - once I reminded them that we had been sitting there for 15 or do minutes. Food was really good, full of flavor, very authentic. Overall good experience.
Service was really bad. We sat on the outdoor deck 5 feet from the bar. It took almost 15 minutes for anybody to come to our table with water or Menees. The waiter was unresponsive, slow and not knowledgeable about the menu
Excellent evening, although loud for just two people.
Wonderful atmosphere and wonderful Host to greet us! The food was amazing and the waitress was especially knowledgeable about the menu....we were very happy with the food as well, simply amazing! Everyone was kind and accommodating! Thank you #BBB ! We shall return! ❤❤❤
They were even sweet with my 3 yr old... Which is great, considering it is her favorite restaurant! We just wish all the tables were sparkle blue! XO
Food was average at best, and the menu seems confused and grasping for a theme. This place can be so much better, here's hoping.
Dad in town
I really enjoyed my experience! Everyone was very kind and I loved the ambiance of the place.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very fun and vibrant. Great place to get several small plays and share among friends.
Fun atmosphere, beautiful food and great service.
Had a wonderful dinner here on a Sunday night. My date and I stuck pretty much to the small plate offerings, and of course, we went for a few different bread options with the chutney sampler. Everything we tasted was incredibly well-rounded, and I'm happy to say that no two dishes tasted the same in the slightest. Our waiter was very helpful in terms of recommending cant-miss dishes, and with how much food the two of us would need to feel satisfied. The food was definitely the best part, but I must say that the decor and overall ambiance of the space were very fun as well. I believe that the murals inside the dining area and over the wood-fired oven were all created by "HateCopy", and her style really lent itself well to the restaurant's overall vibe.
Incredible food. Fruit flies/gnats were all around our table. Water refills were non existent.
I loved the ambience at Bombay bread bar, the drinks were great. Loved the 60s vibe with the music and decor. The drinks were also great. However I don’t think the food was worth the price point. They offered very tiny portions for me and my friend to share. We ordered the chicken fry which was a small plate but there was too much of a pepper to chicken ratio. The spiciness was fine but I felt they could have offered a side maybe some nan or rice for the table. We also got a chicken dish which was 4 pieces of chicken and some radishes with salad which was not worth $25. I would just go to this place for drinks and maybe an appetizer or two. Then head somewhere else for a heartier meal.
What a cool place!! Loved our dinner!! We tried six different dishes and every singe one was amazing! Loved the vibe. Located in a great neighborhood!
Still thinking about that Cauliflower Paneer and the chutneys- so very delicious!!
The food was good but service was mediocre everyone had a frown or seemed unhappy as you walk in.
Had a set menu (option 1) for 10 and it was delicious but we were given way too much food! It was such a shame to waste so much, but we couldn't finish even half of what's given. I would have preferred the option to order our meal purely a-la-carte (didn't seem like an option from my email exchange).
Beautiful interior, service and ambience though. I will definitely be returning to try more of the a-la-carte options.
The person we connected with via email to add 2 people to our party was so rude and dramatic about it. And then we practically had to beg the waiter to come to us
Worst service ever. We were asked what kind of water we wanted by three different waiters. The timing of all the food was off. Only the breads were worth trying. There was a very large and loud party next to us and it felt very crowded. We never knew who our waiter was and I was looking forward to just having the evening end and just leave. Not going back.
Fantastic food, attentive service, great ambiance (especially sitting in front of the break oven at the bar).
Went here for my birthday dinner. Food was excellent. Service started out just okay - ended terribly. Regardless of the food being good, hard to say I'd come back.
I booked a table but i had to wait for half an hour to seat and no apologies from the manager or some one else...
I recommend this restaurant for the food and for the cocktail even if it's too noisy and the service is a bit confused and slow.
Haven’t been to a restaurant with such awful service in a long long time. Also food including takes over an hour to be served including appetizers that shouldn’t take more than 10 mins to be served.
We sat outside. We were accommodated by the staff and they made this birthday experience special.
The pacing of serving could be better. We went in at 7 pm and the food came so fast that we were done by 7:30 and we were feeling so weirdly stuffed. It almost felt like may be we are being served pre-made food. The dal pakhwan chat was a bit cold. The kulcha club was okayish. The taste was just not for me. We loved eggs kejriwal toast and cheddar cheese naan..
We had great time at this place, it was a last minute booking and we still got a very nice table. Staff was very nice and helpful, made great suggestions for the menu.
The food is meant to be shared but each dish coming out was better than the previous. Great modern twist on Indian cuisine.
Lovely atmosphere! We had really great service as well. Thank you! ☺️
I was a fan of Paowalla and was excited to see the new version of the space by visiting Bombay Bread Bar. Food overall was very good. I think $5 for one piece of naan is a bit steep, but otherwise had a great dining experience. My one complaint was my friend and I were seated in the back of the restaurant and it was almost impossible to hear one another. Between the other diners and a party of 12 the room was VERY loud. The tables are also close together so servers and other guests kept bumping into us which was irritating. Otherwise a very nice dining experience and would return again (but only sit in the front of the space).
Interesting though not innovative enough. The host at the front was dry and not very pleasant and welcoming.
Loved the food, a little on the pricey side for some of the items such as the kerelan fried chicken. Unfortunately service was slow and often confusing. Took the waiter 30 mins to comeback to our table to tell us four of the drinks we ordered were no longer available and servers didn’t know which dishes we had ordered. The place has a good vibe but wish the AC was not so cold, my fiancé had to sit through dinner wearing a coat and scarf despite asking for temp to be adjusted.
Hello, we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our menu items and we will be sure to pass your review onto our team so that we may improve.
I'm sorry to report that Bread Bar is a very poor imitation of Paowalla, its previous incarnation. I visited Paowalla four times and had excellent food and great service each visit. But in their effort to make it more casual and turn it into Bombay Bread Bar, everything has slid into rather mediocre territory.
To provide just three of several examples, my full party of two arrived 14 minutes ahead of our reservation. We were told our table was not ready yet. As I had made a counter reservation and every single counter seat was indeed available, I asked whether we could not be seated early. The hostess informed us that they were preparing an actual table for us so to please be patient. Fine. Great. However, after sitting at the bar (where the bartender took our order and then promptly forgot to make our drinks) for 10 minutes, she returned to tell us our seat at the counter was now ready. I reminded her of her promise of a table and she looked at me as though we had never had that conversation and insisted that she could only seat us at the counter.
When we ordered, we both ordered by saying "I'll have X for an appetizer and Y for my main course." Then the food came out one dish at a time, starting with my entree. I refused it, asking for my appetizer and the servers acted as if they had never heard of such a concept before and kept delivering dishes in no particular order.
Finally, I asked our server (while pointing them out to him) what the diced, white, crunchy fruit was surrounding the vanilla kulfi. He said he did not know but returned a while later to tell me it was blood orange. Yikes.
And the food was good but not nearly the level it used to be.
I can understand wanting to make the place more casual, but letting the standards slip this far won't appeal to many people. I cannot imaging returning or recommending Bombay Bread Bar to anyone after this visit.
Hello Dave, we are extremely disappointed to hear about your recent visit with us as it certainly wasn’t up to our standards. If you wouldn’t mind private messaging us your number our general manager would love to reach out!
Delicious naan bread with wonderful chutneys. Loved the cauliflower paneer.
I’m sorry but this was the worst service I’ve experienced in nyc in 5 years. Please advise your staff that 3 waiters a table with multiple items ordered that never made it to us is unacceptable in a service industry such as nyc. This lack of attention will spread and bad service will close your restaurant.

Horrible customer service. Staff needs a training on how to interact with customers.
Service was abysmal - after starters, waited over a hour for the main course. No one checked in, no water refill, we finally asked about our meal. More time passed. Finally asked for check and left without eating (or seeing) our entree.

Eh, service a bit slow and they bring food out at weird times. Curry got cold waiting for rice and naan. Also, forgot our main dish.
Hello Lillian, we are disappointed to hear about your recent dining experience with us. We will be sure to pass on your review to our team so that we may improve.
They should go back to the original theme. Food was awful. Fried chicken was inedible. So salty. SUPER ANNOYED!!!

While the food was pretty tasty, the service and value detracted from the dining experience. A $15 small plate of cauliflower paneer curry came with 2 pieces of cauliflower and one piece of paneer. Upon asking for more paneer, it was brought out ice cold. Cocktails sounded good on the menu but were watery and uninteresting in execution. Service was very disorganized. Not a great experience overall.
