The Bombay Bread Bar
Was served undercooked food,
I had a terrible experience. Waited 10-15 minutes to get the table ready for my party. The server pouring tap water into our cups of bottled sparkling water without an apology or even offering to replace it. The food came out very late (waited 20 min). The food was very bland and tasted like low quality. I understand that it’s modern fusion Indian but didn’t taste remotely Indian.
Very disappointment since I was looking forward to this place. Wouldn’t recommend
Best Indian ever!!! Floyd Cardoz outdid even his last restaurant. I love this place.
I had the spiced shrimp and the pork ribs. Both were well prepared, spiced just right for my taste.
This was disappointing. The service was so poor that it affected our experience with the food. I really wanted to like the cheese nan but it was just melted cheddar cheese inside a flat and unfluffy nan, sort of greasy. The cocktails were great though!
Over rated, bad choice.
I have loved Chef Cardoza's restaurants and food since Tabla. Bombay Bread was rather a disappointment. Many flavors were muddied. The Chicken Tikka was overcooked and dry. The bread was lovely and so was the Cauliflower small plate. I will try once more because I usually enjoy his food.
Super delicious meal. Highly recommend the Meat & Eggs Tiffin for brunch and the cheddar bacon naan. Friendly service and the restaurant is spacious so you can be comfortable.
Extemely loud once it’s in full swing but delicious food
Very small plates and pretty overpriced. Definitely a “hot spot” “trendy” vibe but not great food and really loud so couldn’t talk much
The noise level of the music made conversation impossible. We asked several times if they could lower the volume and it did not happen. With the exception of the appetizer shrimp, the food was bland and uninteresting. The vegetable curry was a brown mess with no flavor or seasoning. There was nothing distinctly INDIAN about the cuisine. Generally it was dumbed down food for a late night crowd. The nan was good. Maybe they should stick with bread.
Amazing food with a top notch staff. Found the space a little loud for such a great place.
Food is magnificent
Room too hot ana waiter was a dud.
Lively ambience and interesting menu. It was way too noisy to hold a conversation. Food was ok, the shrimp starter was nice and cheese kulcha was delicious. The lentil curry was average, overpriced for the taste. Service was quite slow.
Our table loved the food, but the service was achingly slow.
We arrived for our 8pm reservation and waited about 20 minutes before being sat at the bar instead of a table as we had booked on the reservation. We didn’t even get drinks until 8:45 and the food took a while to come out. The food was just okay - nothing mind blowing, which does not justify the time we spent waiting for it. They did take our drinks off the bill at least. Probably not a place I would go back, sadly, because their cocktails were great!
The music was too loud and the hostesses were rude and not great at prioritizing those who were waiting for a table with a reservation and without. We waited close to 10 mins even though the restaurant was half empty AND we had a reservation.
I LOVE BBB. It is ridiculously delicious. The menu changes and is always exciting and surprising. Foods that I would not order anywhere else, I will order here and love. Floyd Cardoz is an alchemist with ingredients. Go and order the whole menu. Everything is perfect. And the room is great, the decor down to every last detail is perfect and the service is always lovely.
Nice place and good atmosphere. Food nice and tasty. Not haute cuisine of course like you would expect but not worth the cost so not good value. If cheaper we would return as otherwise excellent
Love the restaurant but the noise level is horrendous. Will go back as food is so yummy but can you keep the music down?
We were really excited to try this place but it was a disappointing experience overall. And we were there on what should have been a good night since the chef-owner was on-site, but still service was pretty mediocre, the food was good but not that exciting, the flavors were pretty tempered and subdued and nothing wow’d us. The portions (even the so-called large plates) were exceedingly small and generally it was pricey for the amount of food we consumed (and especially because nothing was all that spectacular). That said, nothing was terrible, but for a pricey night out there are better options in the city, with tastier food and way better service.
I was a fan of this restaurant... fun, informal good service, good food... always crowded, and difficult to get a reservation.
This time, it was not crowded at all, the service was so-so, and the food a disappointment...
The fish, that the other times, was so delicious, in a creamy tasty sauce, this time didn’t reach the level of a pre-cooked frozen meal. A squared little block of fish without taste in a watery flavorless sauce ...
How the management staff can let this happen ??
It was my fourth or fifth time in this restaurant, but i don’t think i’ll go back... sorry
Exceptional, authentic, fun. Great food. Great ambiance.
I came here to celebrate my birthday and it was such an amazing experience! I got to meet and chit-chat with the famous Chef Flyod Cardoz. Quirkiness right from the decor to the menu. Handcrafted drinks were too pretty to drink and Oh so creatively named!
Loved the ambience and the Tapas style Indian food was to die for. A must visit spot in SOHO!
Very flavorful food. Coordination of the meal was poorly executed. The naans were sent out with the appetizers and we had to wait almost 15 mins for the mains by which point the naans were cold. Ambience was great. Vibrant colors, great attention to details with decor.
A funky Tabla. Nice to see a celebrity chef actually at his restaurant cooking and conversing with diners! Everything you need to know about the quality and creativity of the menu can be gleaned from the brussel sprout hash. GO!
Came here with family over the holidays. Great food and fun vibe. Excellent cocktails and reasonably priced wine list. Would definitely come back!
Loved the tapas size portions of the food. Service was great and priced very reasonable!
Overall good, over priced as
portion size is small. Main meals don’t come with rice so you have to order separately, we got the smallest rice portion I have ever seen!
Loved the food, service friendly but slow, we had to wait a long time for drinks and refills.
Music could be more tolerable, really loud.
Will return for food.
The food was very tasty and the service was great.
For those of us who still mourn the closing of TABLA a few years ago, the mourning is over. This is a great bread bar in the style of TABLA by Floyd Cardoz. The menu is small and simple: indian regional street food. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
We literally had about 80% of the menu and EVERYTHING we had was delicious. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. Loved Paowalla but this is definitely different and may I dare to say, better?!
Amazing. The food is fantastic and the flavors authentic. One of the best places to eat at in New York.
Food and cocktails were amazing! Great service!
The food is spectacular--creative, amazing spices, combinations you wouldn't imagine. And of course the bread is excellent. The garlic naan with a mango chutney was a perfect beginning. Three "small plates" was more than enough for a full dinner for two people; the portions are very generous. The service is good although not the highlight of the place. The overall vibe is energetic and grabs you instantly. That's also the only downside too because it is very noisy. If you're with a big, raucous group it couldn't be better (lots of folks singing happy birthday). But if you're looking for quiet conversation forget it (although it's likely quieter on weekdays and lunch! But overall this is a special treat and worth trying--and a few steps from the C train.
Far too noisy loud makes it hard to enjoy being with friends. Keep your music low and control the noise
Fantastic food! I wish the portion would be a little bigger especially the bread one piece per portion not enough
Polite friendly staff
Poor menu and tasteless food
Definitely not where you would go if you fancied a curry
Food was delicious as usual though service was packing. Table wasn’t ready until 40 mins after our reservation and the host comped a round of drinks but only after prompting (and forgetting to include in the final bill). Service was choppy and the server forgot 3 of our groups dishes at the end - seemed to just never write them down. Not a reason not to return, but certainly disappointing for a nice restaurant.
