   Although I am typically a very generous tipper (over 20%, particularly at dinner), I find the automatic 18% "service charge" to be objectionable. I also resent the fact that it is not listed as a tip and when the receipt comes, there is a line for "tip," not "additional tip." It makes it confusing regarding the "service charge". Added to this is the statement made by each member of the staff during which the automatic service charge is announced and then they add, "...anything you add beyond the 18% is shared among all of us." Okay, what happens to the 18% service charge? I don't want to appear to have ever stiffed anyone, but neither do I want to be emotionally extorted to add significantly to a bill to which 18% has already been added. I have been to over two dozen restaurants since moving to Midlothian 2.5 years ago and only one other restaurant charges an automatic "service charge." The Boathouse has a great and unique location going for it and...just to be fair, outstanding service and food, so I am unlikely to throw in the towel and not return. However, the irony of the automatic 18% charge is that the servers ultimately get a smaller tip...aka service charge...from me. If I were to learn that the 18% goes to the restaurant and not the servers, that fact would make me stop patronizing your restaurant. BTW, I get the service charge for large parties, but when applied to a party of 2-4 people, it raises the price of meal and in my opinion should just be woven into the prices on the menu. After all "TIPS" is an acronym for ""To Insure Prompt Service" and should not be disguised as a "service charge."

   The boathouse has a fantastic view and ambiance. It was a great day and we enjoyed it. The kitchen is just slow. It is hard to justify the time it takes to eat lunch there. Food was good

   The waitress ignored the table and I think this comes from they already know they’re getting 20%. We had to ask for drinks numerous times before we receive them.

    The service, view, food and drinks were very good. There was a table of about 12 people right beside us that were obnoxiously loud. We had a party of 8 which included a four month old. The baby acted better than these other people. It's no fault of the restaurant that this large party was so over the top loud. I do wish that they had been asked to quiet down a bit. The rest of the room almost applauded when this group left the restaurant. It simply took some of the joy out of our family dinner.

    The Shrimp cocktail and raw oysters were excellent. The chowder was okay. The fried oysters were horrible. The batter fried fish an salmon were good along with the clam/ cheese dip. The old fashion cocktail was sent back it was awful.... Too much of something left a bad taste. The ghost and mojito were very good. Need better illustration for where to park.

    My husband and I celebrated his birthday at The Boathouse. Although I told the restaurant it was his birthday, no one ever wished him a happy birthday, nor did they bring him his dessert with the candle. I did see two other tables where that was done, but not for us. Other than that, the food was good as usual we did have the apple crisp for dessert, which was excellent. I do think $14 for crab and artichoke dip is a little high, but it was very good.

    Celebrating my mother being and town and my husbands 60th birthday. Service was great at first but then it slowed so much it took a long time to get dessert and close out outlet ticket. There was a large party that came in after us and they received their bill way before us. A little disappointing.

    Out 5 dishes 2 were not good. Hush puppies over cooked and tasted like dense corn mix, no sign of jalapeño or other flavors. Fish and chips: fish tasted like dirty catfish instead of cod with a mushy texture, fries were dark brown and tasted like old cooking oil, slaw equaled a tablespoon. Clam chowder: serving size, equal to a cup and tastes ordinary. Shrimp and grits: very good. Salmon and asparagus: very good. Lighting was dim. Perfect for romance, horrible for casual or business dining. This place is also loud at times. Service: waitress was exceptional, assisting wait staff not so great. Each one allowed plates to fall on the table instead of placing them on the table. Recommend retraining or adult supervision. Friendliness and attitude were perfect. Prices are high enough for me to expect a fine dining experience. Not sure what dining experience The Boathouse at Sunday Park is trying to provide; casual, business, or romantic. Not even sure this place has a trained culinary staff. Wait staff is dressed in black polo shirts and slacks for such establishment is a bit embarrassing. I'd like to give The Boathouse at Sunday Park another try, but it will be hard to convince my family to join me.

    Each time this place gets worse and worse. I realize they are struggling with staffing but it is basic practice to get your drinks before your appetizer. We literally finished the appetizer and the drinks still had not arrived ( 2 alcohol and 2 sprites). Should not take 20 min. Asked for the manager very politely and the manager never even came. We have been coming here for years but sadly, management needs to pull this together.

    Enjoy meeting good friends almost monthly. Todays visit was as usual until the end. Place got really crowed, busy. Not enough bartenders to service everyone, snd never got our last requested wine. Other than that a usual pleasant visit. Oh, sunset was beautiful.

    What a great dining experience! The host staff was outstanding when we arrived. They were very nice and friendly. Suggested we head to the bar if wanted to while we waited on our table to be ready. The bartender was friendly and attentive to our needs. Excellent drinks and appetizer. When we got to our table, our waitress was attentive, friendly, patient and eager to share about the menu. She was busy but we never felt it. After we paid, she did something that is lost in most restaurants though it’s the easiest and most impactful thing you can do…she invited us to come back next week. This made us feel special, appreciated and important. We are going to make our reservations for next Friday. Great night and great place to dine! Eric

    Service was horrible. Server was inexperienced and overwhelmed. Food was average. The last few times I’ve been have been disappointing. Probably won’t give it another shot which is disappointing because the location is ideal for us.

    I have no doubt the Boathouse will become one of my favorite restaurants. It feels cozy and I love being able to find a restaurant that is not part of a strip mall. The wait staff was friendly and very efficient and the food was great! Overall great experience. One bad mark: We were seated next to the door that led to the bubble eating spaces on the deck. It was a cold evening and every time that door opened (which was often) we were treated to another low-level blast of cold air. I am guessing that must be the worst seat in the house and though I am already planning a return visit, I will be very definitive about where I do not want to sit. In the winter, I would simply leave before sitting there again.

    Very disappointing. We have been going there for years to celebrate family occasions. This time -and in fact the last 2 times - we have left disappointed. I understand and don’t mind the 20 percent service charge but I fear it may be impacting the quality of service. Last night the waiter was slow, the food took well over an hour to arrive and just wasn’t very good at any price. Portions were smaller and over cooked. We did enjoy the fried oyster appetizer. Sad because we have been big fans of all the Boathouse venues for a long time.

    Lovely setting by the lake. My shrimp tacos were perfect and the mimosa bar was fun and attractive. Waitress was congenial and listened and responded to any requests. (substitute scrambled for poached eggs and dressing on side) Will return.
