   Food was good but not overly impressive. Service was good but again not wow service. Silverware came out with a dirty knife and a hair inside napkin wrapped around the silverware. They added a 20% service charge onto the bill up front and states it helps with employee wages. I would think it should be up to the customer to award the gratuity based on their perception of the service. Didn’t get a chance to check the outside deck due to it raining but the views were still nice of the water.

   Our 5th time at this Hopewell gem. Staffing snafu led to significant service delays from 5-7pm. Food was the usual taste explosion😋Look forward to our next visit.

   The kitchen was very busy and there was a party at the time of our dinner. The server was very friendly and attentive for the most part. The problem was the timing of the food. It took FOREVER to get any food. It took almost an hour to get appetizers and then maybe another 30-45 minutes to get dinner. Thankfully the weather was very nice and we had a nice time, but not sure if I would go back if this is normal. Parking was challenging as well! The food was delicious.

    For the pricing of the food the portions are very small. There was also very little flavor, I had the salmon with asparagus and mashed yukon potatoes. There were only four stalks of asparagus and they were cooked with the woody ends. The salmon was cooked great just really no flavor the same with the whole meal, very little flavor. The apple crisp was extremely sweet and not a true apple crisp. The dinner was a huge bummer as this was a birthday present to my Mom who loves seafood and she was also not impressed. Going out to eat is a rare treat and it is always disappointing with the meal is not good.

    Very elegant and bright. The outdoor seating is very open and even if it’s sunny, they have umbrellas at each table overall it was a very pleasant experience. I enjoyed myself very much.

    My wife and I celebrate our 22nd anniversary at the Boathouse City Point in Hopewell on 05/19/23. Although we were a bit early, we were seated right away, and were allowed to choose a table that better suited our needs. The service and food were ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING!! In addition, the staff had all signed an anniversary card for us. We were also treated to complementary champagne and dessert! They helped make an already special occasion even more wonderful!

    My visit this time was very disappointing. The food was not good. The salmon was dry and burned. I make it better at home. After viewing someone’s plate who had the same meal served, I got a raw deal for 98.00. (Included my guest meal). My guest meal was great! (Shrimp and grits) I guess my 3rd trip was not a charm! I didn’t dare get dessert was afraid of further frustration. I would recommend but would tell them to send order back if it is overlooked.

    The restaurant service did not come up to the high price point - while staff were friendly and helpful - drinks coming from the bar took more than 20 minutes - and food coming from the kitchen was slow - for a special event like an engagement or anniversary possibly a good choice

    My family and I had a delightful experience! It was our first time in Hopewell and it won’t be our last. Service was excellent and food was terrific. The river view was beautiful and the ambiance was lovely. So much to love about the BoatHouse. The food was fresh and people were so friendly we really did enjoy ourselves today.

    The food was really good and I definitely liked that everything is homemade and fresh picked instead of it being store bought. The restaurant is beautiful and I love the way it's decorated. It's really cool to eat by the river while enjoying the fresh air and having an amazing meal. The staff is really nice and checks on you often to see if you need anything or to take plates off the table so you have room on the table. Overall, the boathouse is an amazing restaurant and I'd definitely go back.

    We had reservations for outside seating. It ended up raining and we’re told that they have umbrellas but basically we would still get wet bc it doesn’t cover everyone at the table. We asked to be seated inside and were given the bar as an option or we could wait because a table hadn’t come in for their reservation. We luckily were able to take their table since they were a no-show. The appetizers were ordered when the waitress came to our table. About 45 min later they finally came out. Lukewarm at best. About 45 more minutes later our food came out. Again some plates were hot, some lukewarm, one overcooked piece of salmon and cold truffle fries. I would’ve told our server, except she didn’t come back until after we asked another server for a to-go tin (for the dog). I’ve eaten at the other 2 boathouse restaurants and have had wonderful experiences, which is why we tried City Point with our family from out of town. We all said we would not go back and would’ve been better at another restaurant. Disappointing experience for all.

    My side vegetable was 3 baby carrots. Portions were very small, very little sauce on the side for the salmon. I was so hungry after my meal I HAD to order dessert and I never eat sweets!

    The Boathouse rates excellent in all categories. It’s a beautiful restaurant with great views of the Appomattox River. The service was excellent and the food quality reflected great fresh seafood well prepared. Food came out hot and delicious.

    My wife and I frequently eat at the Boathouse in Hopewell for brunch on Sunday's or lunch and dinner on other days. We have never been disappointed with the food or service at this restaurant. Our latest visit was on Sunday, April 30th for brunch. It was a belated anniversary present as we also had a concert to attend in Richmond. I made reservations and requested a window seat as we love looking out onto the water. We have always been accommodated with a window seat and as luck would have it we were seated at the same table the past three times. As usual, the food and service was exceptional. A big thanks to the staff at the Boathouse.

    This was a special lunch for 3 old high school friends catching up and looking for seafood with a view. What a view! The Appomattox River spills into the James River off the deck. Started with the Crab Dip and Oysters Rock. The oysters were just above average, but the Crab Dip was fantastic. They were out of Shrimp Cocktail, our first choice. With no shrimp and no crabcake platters, I chose the Boathouse Burger and it was very good. Guest 1 chose the Atlantic Salmon which she loved. Guest 2 chose the Chicken Florentine and she was stuffed with only half then finished the rest at home. Her first choice would have been shrimp or crab cake platter, too. Be patient. The courses took a little longer to receive, but that was fine with our experience. We gabbed for our 90 minute visit and enjoyed it the extra time. Our choice for first seating on Saturday at 11:00 gave us the place all to ourselves for over an hour. Beautiful place and staff.

    This place is amazing! I am an early dinner kind of person and having a reservation at 330 and sitting outside is the BEST DECISION EVER! The ambience is outstanding and the food is delicious! The drinks? They were definitely lacking alcohol, so if you want to make sure you’re getting liquor, I would order shots on the rocks. Lol. Overall, it’s one of the best places to eat in the Tri-Cities, in my opinion. I will definitely be back!

    I modified our reservation so that we could sit outside, but the modification was not honored & we were inside, could not enjoy the river view. The food took an extremely long time to come & I had to take mine to go. Our server was exceptionally nice & we enjoyed her. Don’t think we will return to this location.

    Beautiful restaurant with great wine and seafood options. Their mixed drinks are also pretty good. Making a reservation is highly encouraged, especially if you want to enjoy the beautiful outdoor seating area. Just be prepared to wait for seating, even with a reservation we waited more than 20mins for our table to be ready. Parking can also be tricky if you go at a super busy time. But, the wait is worth the view and the food TBH.

    We went for a friend’s birthday lunch. We sat outside and it was a beautiful day. I got the fried shrimp and she got the cod sandwich. Both so good. Coleslaw a little dry. Great service and your restaurant is gorgeous. Loved it.
