   We totally enjoyed everything. The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding. There are two things that we question the need for. One is the fee of $5 per person to reserve a table. $ 5 to reserve one table is enough. The second is the happy hour prices. We believe they should be for everyone not just those able to sit at the bar. Because of back and knee problems my wife cannot get up in those high bar chairs. Yes we will definitely return, we loved it.

   The food was really great and the view was amazing. Sitting outside was the best choice and everything about it was amazing. The truffle fries are chefs kiss would totally recommend. The crème brûlée was also stunning!

   We were seated right away thanks to our reservation and had paid extra for a river view. It was worth it for a special occasion. While it took some time for our server to arrive she was friendly and helpful. She was not attentive enough to drink refills or timely to bring the check and collect it. But the food was incredible. Our starter of hushpuppies came quickly and was delicious. Both entrees were gorgeous and also arrived quicker than expected. I ordered the “simply prepared” swordfish and I feared it may be bland, but it was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. We went on Friday evening and it was a little noisy but we still had no trouble hearing each other. We will go back to treat ourselves to a great meal with a wonderful view.

    The Boathouse could be an excellent restaurant. We were there on a Thursday evening. The food and drinks were excellent. The service was extremely slow. It was not the table server's fault. We ordered cocktails. It took a very long time for them to come. Dinner was even slower. It took an hour to get our food. We were trying to make a show at the Beacon. Thank goodness, the Beacon is only 2 minutes away.

    Easy to make reservations. Greeted with a smile as we entered the restaurant. Seated promptly. The restaurant was neat, clean and inviting. The atmosphere was classy and comfortable. We enjoyed our entrees... Crab cake sandwich, grilled chicken, kids fried shrimp and shrimp tacos. Very flavorful, just wish the portions were a little bigger. Great to see kids menu selections that were reasonable priced. We were celebrating a birthday and at the end of meal, our server brought out a delicious dessert with a birthday candle! Overall, pleasant experience and we will definitely be back!

    We love the ambiance of this space and we were really looking forward to a good meal with great service. For starters, our waiter had an injury which really limited his ability to serve us on time. The oysters Rockefeller we ordered had been under the warmer way too long and didn’t even look appetizing when we got them. The wedge salad had hardly any dressing on it so we had to ask for more. The fish that came with the fish and chips meal was really greasy. We were so disappointed in the quality of the food. We will definitely try this place again but something was definitely missing this time around.

    Shea was absolutely amazing. Service was quick, food was delicious, we sat, ate, chatted, and just enjoyed ourselves. Even though it was close to closing and they were cleaning up, we were not rushed. Shea checked on us often, cleared the table for our next dish, refilled drinks, offered dessert, answered all our questions, and what she wasn’t sure about, she found out and came back to tell us. Appetizers, dinner, dessert, friendliness, service, it was all a wonderful experience. We are always pleased with how we are treated when dining here. This particular location is highly recommended. Thank you Shea and other staff members!!!

    I booked a water view table for two for my wife's 70th birthday. The table and view of the river were great and the entire experience was great. All the food servers are attentive and they all pitch in to help one another. The food was plentiful and extremely good. It was a great experience again as this restaurant has never let me down.

    Food was good except for the crab cake, was same as one we get at sams club. Service started off well but then degraded quickly. Could see staff playing around some in back corner while we were left waiting a long period of time for our food and desert. Place was less than half occupied, not very busy late at night. Not awful but for the price would’ve expected a better customer service.

    We had a most pleasurable Valentines lunch experience. Excellent service from Jeremy. My husband's steak was tasty and tender. My salmon was delicious. The Crispy Brussels Sprouts were superb. Wonderful view of James River on a lovely day.

    The restaurant has a black/silver/gold linearly geometric design decor which I found very attractive. From any seat, scenic views of the river can be had. Our seating was at 3:30 p.m., and there seemed to be only one other party at the restaurant. Wait staff - very pleasant and nicely attired. Quality food used - we had a steak order and a salmon order. Salmon was excellent. Ordered medium temp steak but it was closer to well done than to medium, but taste and tenderness were good. Sides and sauces were not to my liking - either too crispy or too sweet and peppery. Creme brulee was "eggy" and seasoning bland - but crust was perfect! I enjoyed the rich black coffee I ordered with the dessert.

    Very disappointed with the food quality. Especially given the prices! Scallops were extremely salty. Do not order them! The Brussel sprouts were straight up burnt. For that price point I expect much higher quality. This place used to be much better.

    To be charged forced to pay 20% gratuity and not receive good service with food arriving late. Forgetful on orders. This needs to be changed or I will not be coming back

    They put a 20% gratuity automatically and this means they can get away with terrible service. We had to ask the bartender to take our empty dishes to make room for the entree. We had to go to the bar to get fresh drinks. While the crab cakes were delicious the rest of my food was cold. Overall not a good experience.

    We took our Mother to the Boathouse for her birthday lunch. We were greeted promptly, seated right away (we did have a reservation) and my Mom was given a birthday card signed by the staff! Our server was excellent – she was knowledgeable and attentive. Our experience was great. I highly recommend this restaurant.

    Food and wine were great- server started out great but transitioned off our table towards end of the meal so took 30+ minutes for dessert to come out. Servers were ok but timing with dessert ended on not a great note

    Fantastic!! The atmosphere was very relaxing and comfortable. Great time with coworkers. The food was great! Service was great! I was undecided between NY Strip or Braised Boneless Beef Ribs, so I asked for advice from our waitress, and she recommended the Beef Ribs since it was a limited option, and the NY Strip is a regular menu item. Turned out to be good advice. Looking forward to the next Boathouse experience/memory.

    Food was excellent and the chefs complimentary salmon appetizer was perfectly seasoned and very tasty. My 6oz filet Mignon was cooked perfectly and my wife’s broiled seafood platter was superb. Lastly the dozen raw oysters were perfect in every way. Temperature was perfect, flavor and saltiness was exactly right and the cocktail and horse radish was so darned good. Service was great and our young waitress Cierra took care of us so well we were spoiled like we were home with family. Thank you Cierra! And thank you Boat House for a great date night.     Food was good service was just OK. Took too long on drink reorders. Portions of the sides were left off plate and arrived after the meal had concluded. They also include 20% tip whether deserved or not and then also add a line for additional tip on final bill so if you’re not careful and observant, you’ll double tip which I’m sure is what is preferred. Menu is pricey and portions are fairly small.
