   With the exception of the service, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Our server never checked back to see if we needed anything more to drink, delivered our food to another table before getting it to us and delivered another table's food to us. We waited forever for our desert and had to ask for our check after another long wait. The host did his best to resolve our issues and I'm prepared to write the service off to an inexperienced or poorly prepared server as other servers seemed to be just fine.

   We were excited to go to Tavern and Grocery for date night and went thinking it was restaurant week which was definitely our fault, but when we ask for the restaurant week menu our waitress said that we can use the menu online which reinforced our belief that it was restaurant week. Food was okay but the service overall took over 3 hours and around 30 minutes to get the check despite asking two different people. Other tables were getting up and leaving throughout the meal. When we got the check and saw the items all separated, we ask about it still thinking it was restaurant week, and they took the check into the back. When the person came back out (not our waitress) 5 minutes later and she was very patronizing and condescending toward us about thinking it was restaurant week. I hate being that person who complains about it all but overall it was just not a good restaurant experience, unfortunately, and I don’t think we’ll go back.

   Great atmosphere and food. Service was excellent. Live music at brunch was also excellent but a tad loud for conversation. Always look forward to experiencing T&G when I’m visiting Charlottesville and it never disappoints.

   They were short staffed, so our entrees took over an hour to arrive. Drinks are delicious. Staff were clearly overwhelmed. I was here in August and had a great experience, so hopefully it was just an off day.

   The service unfortunately was not good at all. We waited to long for our drinks and food. Server never came and check on us. We never felt welcome. Food was good. It was a special dinner with my girlfriends. Don’t know if we would come back.

    Amazing New Year's Eve meal! Pricey but definitely delicious, though bummed they ran out of the lobster bisque. Only real detractor was the staff sort of hurrying us out the door. If you don't want folks there after a certain time, don't take 9:45pm reservations. :) But everyone was friendly, regardless, and their team in the kitchen remains easily one of the best in Charlottesville.

    Lovely place to dine and we look forward to trying this restaurant again. New Year’s Eve wasn’t the best experience, but we believe they were doing the best they could given staff had called out last minute. Wine selections were great and food presentation also attractive. Food was tasty, but not something I would have chosen had the full menu been available.

    We did not stay. We waited for about 20 minutes at the hostess stand before someone even greeted us for our reservation and when we were sat at our table it was cramped and in a walk way. The table was also right next to the live guitar player so it was so loud that we couldn’t talk. There appeared to only be one waiter for the whole room. Although they advertise a lunch menu they only did brunch on Saturday even at 1pm. We ended up leaving.

    We went for brunch on Sunday. Food was good and timely and everyone was pleased with their entrees. however the service for the first 20 minutes was non existent. 3 people standing behind the bar and no one came to our table to ask us about drinks for 10 minutes. After we did order drinks it took another 15 minutes to get a Mimosa. Again 3 people behind the bar just talking. More attention could have made this experience much more gratifying.

    Appetizers were healthy portions - Brussels sprout and calamari. I would def order Brussels again, but not calamari. Risotto as entree had little flavor. Short ribs were great - tender and served over grits. Service was great.

    Visited Tavern & Grocery for a bachelorette dinner and Viviana was our server and was an absolute gem. She was so friendly and gave us some excellent food and drink recommendations while also being very accommodating. The speakeasy downstairs was amazing too. Overall we had such a great time!

    We visited for brunch. Restaurant is adorable. Parking was easy and the location was great. Menu is small, but thoughtful. I’m sure that most people can find something they’ll like. Service was slow- there were only two servers on a relatively busy Saturday afternoon. But they were both very friendly. The food was good, presented nicely and fairly priced. I’d absolutely go back.

    Food was pretty good except my tuna steak was over cooked and the server forgot to order one of our entrees, so my father did not receive his dinner until everyone else at the table was done eating. Not impressive and will not be returning.

    Our carrot and brussel sprout appetizers were good, entrees were just okay. My risotto was under cooked and lacked flavor. Our server seemed distracted and almost rude, my step-mother asked for a wine list and he sat it down at the opposite end of the table and just took the cocktail orders. The restaurant was not busy, nor were we slow while ordering. Once our first drinks arrived and we’re finished early during the meal, we were never asked if we would like another drink. I couldn’t find our waiter to even flag him down. All of this can be attributed to an off night bc we have dined here before and overall enjoyed the experience. However, another server appeared to be doing a great job with his tables when the owner/boss came out and yelled at him in front of all of us because he had not heard the bell to run some food. I’ve worked in restaurants and understand the importance of everyone chipping in to keep the restaurant running efficiently, but for the boss to yell at a server in the middle of a dining room - to the point that I heard her - is so distasteful. Especially as this boss seemed to just be drinking her glass of red wine. I can forgive almost anything at a restaurant, but not disrespectful management.

    I never had an experience like this at any restaurant. We were seated at 7:00 for our reservation and sat there without anyone coming over to us for 20 minutes. At 7:20 the seating host came over and asked if we were ready to order. To this point nobody had come over to ask if we had questions about the menu, wanted to see a wine list or to even say "Hi, I am xxx I will be your server tonight". So we said we would like to see a wine list which he dropped off and then went back to seating people. 15 minutes after this (and still no waiter/waitress),I had to go to the front and ask the host again if anyone was going to wait on us. He didnt seem concerned and came over and took the order. Our appetizer came out at around 8:00 (so an hour after we were seated), and still no waiter or any other communication. At 8:30 our meal finally came out (both dishes cold). When the meal was delivered we asked for the check out of fear of never having anyone come back. In the end, the food was fine, but cold...and still no waiter. It was honestly the strangest experience I have ever had at a restaurant to the point my wife and I were waiting for someone to come around with a video camera and say we were on tape for a new show seeing how long people will sit at a restaurant and be completely ignored. Needless to say, we will never go back.

    Great dinner at Tavern and Grocery. Dining room beautiful with exposed brick and wooden beams, old hardwood floors. Had the beet salad and duck. Great wine list. A little noisy, but not too bad.

    Food was excellent. Place was not kid friendly, and the bartender was rude. We had a two year old with us and the food was taking a while. So we went to the bar to see if we could grab a couple of orange slices fire the hungry boy. Bartender said no and actually took the orange slices off the bar and hid them below.

    Flounder dinner was great. Wine and beer were very good. Duck dinner was half raw and accompaniments were minimal and not tasty - very disappointing meal. Would have asked for it to be returned but was with a large group of friends. Filled up on their extra french fries instead.
