Tanta is dedicated to sharing the flavors and culture of Peru with Chicago, serving authentic Peruvian dishes and beverages in an approachable, fun and casual downtown setting. We provide service that is casual yet knowledgeable, genuine and attentive, utilizing locally sourced products and vendors that are sensitive to sustainable farming and fishing.

Tanta has two Chef’s Tables that each seat up to 10 people. These tables are located in our main dining room in between our open kitchen and cebiche bar which allows you and your guests to experience our chefs creating Peruvian cuisine while you dine.

The menu, created by Acurio and Tanta Chicago Chef Giancarlo Valera, takes diners on a voyage through Peru via its food. From the Pacific Ocean, through the Andes, to the desert, to the Amazon, Tanta celebrates the diverse landscape and ethnicities that make up Peru’s culture.

    Through the valleys of Peru and prefectures of Japan, chefs Roberto Rocha of Tanta and Patrick Bouaphanh of Jinsei Motto will take guests on an epic 16-course Omakase-style journey shaped by the culmination of their time in professional kitchens across the country. These two artists will showcase their culinary creativity side-by-side in our private dining room, limited to 20 guests per seating—5:30pm & 8:15pm. This once-in-a-lifetime experience is $195 per person - an optional exquisitely crafted beverage pairing featuring unique sakes and Japanese-spirited cocktails to complement the experience. Seatings are available from February 9-11. We respectfully decline any allergies and dietary restrictions due to the limited nature of the menu.

    I tried the restaurant week menu and overall the food was mediocre. The pasta and the pork came out cold. The pasta was supposed to have clams in it but there were more shells than the actual clams. The ceviche was alright for the most part. My friend ordered a pisco sour and it basically tasted like lime juice.

    Our server was very informed and attentive, all of the staff were enthusiastic as courteous, and THE FOOD. WOW. Delicious ceviche, mussels, unique desserts, yummy cocktails. We went for restaurant week and their menu was one of the more well-crafted I've seen for the occasion. We left full and happy. We'll be back!

    I had an excellent meal here with a group of 4. Creative dishes, well-prepared, friendly service. Our only complaint was that we were seated at a table with an unusual configuration, with a bench along 3 sides of the table and the 4th side open. So the people on the two ends were pretty far from each other, and given the somewhat high noise level, it ended up being a bit hard for everyone to hear each other at times. I'm sure this wouldn't have been an issue at most of the other tables in the restaurant.

    The food was delicious, unique, and visually pleasing, our only complaint was the amount of sodium. Way too salty, not only on the palate, but on the body (we retained A LOT of water after that meal). Please, dial down the salt in your cooking. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant.

    We sat at the bar for happy hour on a Thursday 5pm when they first opened. Frankie was our bartender and he was wonderful. We ordered the El Cholito and El Chingon cocktails. I absolutely loved the El Cholito, a cucumber ginger tequila cocktail that was not at all sweet or too cucumber forward, yet absolutely refreshing and a bit margarita-like. My friend liked El Chingon, Frankie's recommendation, a mezcal tequila drink with a ghost pepper ice cube. We didn't hear him warn about the ghost pepper though, so she was nursing that drink for hours. LOL. The mixto ceviche was fantastic, I wanted to drink the dressing. Nice and tart like I like my ceviche.

    It was my first time back in a while. Cebiche was delicious. Other items were okay. Ordered the steak, which perhaps wasn’t the thing to order here. It was also very well done when we ordered it medium.

    Tanta is one of my go-tos. The food and service are invariably excellent, and the drinks wonderful. I have a fairly set menu for when I bring new people there - ceviche trio, antecuchos de corazón, empanada trio and either the arepa con mariscos or the churrasco. In choose these because they represent the breadth of the cuisine and of course, they’re all perfectly prepared and beautifully served.

    Mhm this hard for me to write this but I feel the only way one improves is with honest feedback. The star of the show was the Bachicho and Nigiri Criolli. The churrasco norteño that we ordered was way over cooked nd lacked flavor. didn’t complain due to acknowledging they probably needed the table for the next seating. The tres leche cake was also very disappointing… I’ve heard so much about this place… unfortunately it was a big let down!

    They had advertised two main course items that were not served. When I asked about it, the server said they made a “marketing mistake” even though it was still being advertised on their instagram story 21 hours later with no mention of the error. Typically Tanta is on point with their flavors but the other main course items were below average in taste. One had mushrooms which I could not eat and the other was another rice dish that was soggy so I pretty much had a bunch of appetizers for the price of the “experience.” Server only came by once to give me coffee and they still collected 20% mandatory tip. Disappointing experience and false advertising

    Our group had the New Year’s Eve pre fixe dinner. It was fantastic. Each course was unique, bursting with flavor , right amount of spice and textures. The potato chip chocolate cake was delicious Our wait staff was outstanding, describing each dish in detail, answering all questions. Recommend to anyone new to Peruvian food.

    So so. Classic ceviche was good but pricey ($26) and you have to buy chips separately for $5. We were recommended the chaufa, which honestly tasted like Asian fried rice with no noticeable Peruvian flavor. I will not be going back. Very interested in trying the other Peruvian places in Chicago. Also our waiter never came to see if everything was ok.

    Great place to have dinner. They made me a Chilcano, which was not on the menu. I felt very much satisfied with the overall experience. The desserts were superb, as usual.

    Pre Christmas family dinner from Memphis & Montreal. Short walk from hotel on the coldest day of the year. My husband said his fried chicken didn’t have any flavor but everything else was decent. Good experience.

    It was fine but not extraordinary. The Japanese-influenced "ceviche" was not marinated (as traditional ceviche should be) and was actually sweet and very heavy on soy notes. The vegetarian empanada was very good. The chocolate torte was underwhelming and seemed to be frosted with chocolate pudding, again, unexpected.
