Tanta is dedicated to sharing the flavors and culture of Peru with Chicago, serving authentic Peruvian dishes and beverages in an approachable, fun and casual downtown setting. We provide service that is casual yet knowledgeable, genuine and attentive, utilizing locally sourced products and vendors that are sensitive to sustainable farming and fishing.

Tanta has two Chef’s Tables that each seat up to 10 people. These tables are located in our main dining room in between our open kitchen and cebiche bar which allows you and your guests to experience our chefs creating Peruvian cuisine while you dine.

The menu, created by Acurio and Tanta Chicago Chef Tito Rocha, takes diners on a voyage through Peru via its food. From the Pacific Ocean, through the Andes, to the desert, to the Amazon, Tanta celebrates the diverse landscape and ethnicities that make up Peru’s culture.

We arrived for dinner on a Friday night with an 8:30 PM reservation. However, when we checked in with the front hostess, they told us there was a small wait, and so we waited in the main entrance for our table. Unfortunately, we were not seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time. To make matters worse, when we were sat by the hostess after waiting for 30 minutes, she did not offer any apology for the wait. The restaurant is severely miss managing their reservation times as there were several other parties, waiting long periods to be sat even though they had reservations. The ambience and service in this restaurant does not match the very high price they are charging. While we enjoyed most of the food we ordered, the restaurant is extremely loud and overly bright. Service was mediocre and slow from the hostess to the wait staff. I really wanted to like this place, but will not be coming back.

Service and food were great. Was sat in the upstairs room which was very bright and music playing was very quite. If they had the music up a bit and lowered the lights it would have been a better mood. Some things on the menu are questionable on price but food is delicious no doubt

Nice restaurant with beautiful food from Peru. The waiter was amazing. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes. The noise in the restaurant was terrible though. Acoustics were not well at all. We basically had to scream at each other in order to hear something..

Frankly this time a disappointment. We arrived at opening and they tried to seat us at bad table. We ended up asking to move twice. Sever did not explain something well and i politely asked for clarification and she became defensive bordering on rude. Menu less and interesting than before, more Americanized, less showcasing diversity of Peruvian cuisine. I used to recommend this place highly not sure if we ever will be back.

I can’t make sense of all these positive reviews. I went here on a Friday night and immediately thought the ambiance was strange. It’s lit like a cafeteria, as if they have no dimmer switch or concept of soft lighting. The acoustics were bizarre and zero padding anywhere to absorb sound. This made it so that I could hear people across the room a clear as if they were sitting next to me. My ears were throbbing after I left and I had a headache. The service was abysmal, we were sat there for 10 minutes before our waiter came by. The cocktails were terrible, too. I ordered a margarita thinking that was a safe bet and it tasted like it came out of a can. No, I’m not kidding. They placed cutlery that should be at a server’s station right next to my date’s head. I could see that they had the same cutlery tray throughout the restaurant by customers heads while they ate. Valuing “efficiency” over everything else. It’s honestly like they don’t know how to make a restaurant feel comfortable or fun. The food was good, but extremely overpriced. I ordered what was essentially fried rice for $36. All their entrees are priced there, and the portions are small. I’m so shocked at the high reviews. I would never, ever bring guests to this establishment and wouldn’t go back myself. What a huge bust on date night. The server did remove the $16 inedible margarita off the bill which was a nice gesture. Very bizarre experience and we left early it was so miserable.

This place hits the spot every time! I brought a group of coworkers here and everyone loved it. We ordered/shared the cebiche trio, empanada trio, criollo (table favorite),half pollo a la brasa, arroz mariscos. This was for 5 people. Five stars, and I’ll make a reservation here every time I visit Chicago!

Visite el restaurante por recomendación de una amiga, ambos vivimos en Boston, y quiero ser claro que mi apreciación de la comida es subjetiva, fue por gusto personal, no fueron los sabores qué esperaba, el mejor plato de la noche el lomo salteado y el que menos me gustó fue la empanada de tamal verde, lo acompañe con un cóctel pisco con maracuya qué estuvo decente, lo sobresaliente de la noche fue el mesero Luis que todo el tiempo trato de hacer de mi visita una increíble experiencia.

Although the food was excellent, the service was quite odd. Some of the main dishes arrived at the same time as the appetizers. And, the drink order arrived some 20 minutes after the food when it was the very first thing ordered. I would recommend Tanta but advise people to insist on the order of drinks, a few minutes later appetizers, and 15 minutes after that main courses.
