The food was just OK in my opinion in comparison to the price. They had some type of requirement that if you made reservations, you had to get the chefs special and you can’t choose which sushi you want but they were plenty of seats. No one with hardly there and other people could just walk in and pick exactly what they want it off the menu. when I asked to be able to switch over to that I was told I couldn’t because we made a reservation. Just seem like a way for them to get money. I thought that was silly to say the least and put me in a position to only eat what they want it my friend and I to eat which wasn’t very good.

We had the chef's experience and will be back when we are in DC again. Each plate was well prepared with top quality ingredients. In addition to the 9 courses the chef included complimentary fatty tuna rolls after we raved about the fatty tuna Nigiri we'd had, which accompanied sock eyed and other delicious tuna nigiris. Every bite was exquisite, from the opening salad to the closing soup and kobe beef plates. Our server and the chef were very attentive, and the Marga Yakuza margaritas were excellent. The ambiance is fanciuful: simple, modern and colorful.

The staff were so attentive! They saw in our reservation details that one friend is vegetarian so made sure to point out what had no fish in it and also noted that they could make any dish vegetarian for them. Service was much better than the typical establishment and elevated the experience for sure.

Takara 14 was a great experience and we'd definitely go back. The sushi rolls we got were delicious, as were the tempura veggies and cocktails. The service from our waiter was really slow and inconsistent but other staff stepped up each time we asked them for more drinks or to anything else. A large party came in and were very loud in the front of the restaurant - not sure if that happens every time it gets crowded or if it was just an energetic group.

The food was fantastic. My girlfriend and I got a mix of the sushi rolls and all of them tasted fresh and with a mix of different flavors. We plan to come back in the future to try their drinks and entrees. The service was one of the best I’ve had and the decor was nice as well. Overall a great place that I’ll return to.

Just to warn people there is a steep flight of stairs to climb in order to enter. We had the “ experience,” many courses of interesting items including sushi, noodles, meat and soup. The service was great and substitutions were worked out at the beginning as necessary. Some dishes were better than others. Extraordinary was the raw fish over tiny shreds of fried potato. Yum! Everyone liked the noodle dish but none of us were entranced with the creamed dofu. Anyway, it was an experience as promised, and we enjoyed the adventure. Note: very hard to park nearby.

It is upstairs from a Thai restaurant and both restaurants are owned by the same proprietor. Furnishing is colorful and basic. Food is great and our server was lovely. We’ll go back if i can still climb the stairs.

Takara 14 was an absolutely outstanding and unique experience. My friend and I had the omakase for lunch, and each dish (there were eight) was delicious and often surprising. In addition to the fresh fish (including squid-wrapped uni), the chef gifted us with a broiled bluefin ahi collar as one of the main courses; the fish had arrived from Boston that morning. It was outrageously delicious, and such a treat. We also got the drinks pairing, which included two Champagnes/sparling wines, sake, and a whiskey cocktail to end the meal. Service was extremely attentive and efficient, and the chef checked in with us before the meal and during. The restaurant space is pretty, quicky, and comfortable. I will be returning to Takara 14 often. Highly, highly recommended.

The omakase here was incredible. I took my girlfriend here on a last minute notice to celebrate her birthday, and we are so glad to have taken in the experience of having quality food and a warm atmosphere. Jenis was so kind and tended to our every inquiry. We told her how grateful we were to have omakase at an affordable price point and even still—-we felt like we were eating a meal of higher value than what we paid. We will definitely come here every time for omakase, and I hope others will too. Don’t fall for the high end pricing that other restaurants will charge you. Takara 14 is where it’s at, I promise you. Salute to the chef for doing an amazing job.

Came here for date night and the whole experience was on point. Let me start by saying that my husband and I travel and lot and as he would say "I'm very picky about food". There are very few places that impress me enough to write a review and this is one of them. We found this place randomly on Open Table and booked the culinary 8 course omakase experience for $85 a person. We also upgraded to unlimited select alcohol for $30 a person (for one). If I could, I would redo the whole culinary experience and repeat the magnificent culinary journey again - it was that good. It's hard to pick my favorite dish of the 8 we tried. Every dish was perfectly crafted by Chef Johnny. The staff was very friendly and made the whole experience even more memorable. Can't wait until we are in the DC area again - will definitely be back!

What a gem of a place. I was in town for the night and found this place by chance. I decided to treat myself and go all in for the 8 course omakase without restrictions. The chef prepared the most delicious dishes. The owner actually partially served me as well as our server. She was absolutely amazing. She was kind, knowledgeable, warm, and professional. You can tell she loves what she does. I was treated incredibly special and with great attention. If you are able to embrace this omakase experience for exactly what it is and enjoy the surprises, you will not be disappointed. I will come here every time I am in DC. The food and experience of the omakase was my best dining experience hands down.

All I can say is wow. The food at Takara 14 was amazing. The sushi and apps were unbelievable with such high quality. We ordered a few different things for dinner and I probably said "this is so good" a million times! I keep thinking about that sushi. The bartender, James, was also the best!! He made very tasty cocktails and created such a memorable experience for us. I will definitely be going back very soon...yum!
