Sushi Kappo Tamura
Tamura is a Kappo style restaurant where food is prepared in an open kitchen and served quickly in a lively environment where staff and guests talk about the food and beyond. Our goal is to become the very best restaurant to our guests by getting to know them and serving them in a personable yet professional manner.
*Please note that a 20% living wage charge is included (dine in only). The house retains 100% of these charges to help fund higher wages and benefits to all staff. Additional gratuity is not expected.
We have been to Sushi Kappo Tamura many times and have loved it, but this last visit was very disappointing. It seems to us that the quality of the sushi and other dishes has gone down. In addition, the portions seemed small. The slices of sashimi were thin, and the server recommended a geoduck small plate, and there were so many mushrooms the the geoduck was hard to find. Has there been a change in ownership or management?
The food was delicious. The service could have been a bit more attentive and it was a bit expensive but very high quality. The location decor and sushi bar are very attractive. There were many interesting and unusual choices on the menu that we didn’t have a chance to try. I’ll stick with Jason at Kisaku for me regular omakase but will return here for special occasions.
We walked in for a reservation at the sushi bar for two people. We were kept waiting for over 6 minutes while the girl ignored us and stayed on the phone with a reservation being made. We are from the Bay Area and should have walked out at that point.
Instead, we are at the sushi bar eating dinner and the food was mediocre at best.
We ordered miso soup which was tasteless, a grilled yellow tail collar which was greasy and lacked any flavor.
Our green beans were pasty and had a sweet clingy sauce .
The quality of the sushi was inferior and the presentation was sloppy .
We subsequently are at sushi kashiba and we were shocked at the disparity in quality and service.
Best sushi in Seattle. Dragon roll is exquisite. Such a friendly, fun atmosphere.
this place is one of the best SUSHI places in Seattle!!!
Great dinner, as usual.
Love this hidden gem. Going twice this week. The chawan mushi is so lovely. Beautiful presentations. Super fresh preparations.
Best Sushi I have had outside of Japan. Could not recommend it enough.
Food was excellent. Not cheap for sure, but great ambiance and overall really happy with my visit.
We went here for a special event with high hopes based on all of the reviews. We arrived at 5p and had to wait 10 mins until they opened the doors (there were a number of people waiting so it was not klike we arrived early). They ended up bringing us the wrong food and at the end even the wrong bill. To say the service was slooowwww was an understatement. They were maybe 10 people TOTAL there as we ate our miso soup...but we didn't get out of there until almost 7p. The food was OK but not even the best sushi I've had in the past month. To add insult to injury, I was appalled when the bill arrived and I was effectively required to pay a 20% tip (aka "living wage") for some of the slowest service I've had in years. I would NEVER go to this place again and would NEVER recommend it to others.
Never Disappointing- Food, Service, Atmosphere always on point. One of my favorite things about Sushi Kappo Tamura is that there is always something new on the menu! Try to get a spot at the bar
This place was lovely... the food was simple and delicious. Omakase from them was a joy. I love fishes, because they're so delicious.
Fantastic sushi with a friendly staff and sushi chefs.
We had the best dining experience. We all felt like it was one of the best Japanese meals of our lives. We have been coming here for years. We love it. We brought a foodie guest and he was blown away.
In Seattle, this is the place to go for sushi.
Both the service and the food was excellent and they went out of their way to make our anniversary dinner special. We ordered their five course tasting menu and each course was mouthwatering. We will definitely be back!
Good but over priced for a lunch
Great sushi authentic - love the options on the menu. Service and am embience
Great food and service. Server went above and beyond to remedy a small mistake, and was generally very helpful.
Pleasant, welcoming & friendly staff. Most of all very delicious food!!!
Best sushi this side of Tokyo prefecture
The food wasn't as good as I expected.
Service was good and the restaurant was clean. I feel it was a little pricey for that quality.
Excellent experience overall. Attentive servers. Awesome chef and food options. Superb!
The service was great, the fish was great, but it just was not a $300+ experience. We came for the prefix Valentines day dinner and the fish was really great but the rest of meal just left us wanting more. I hate to leave a bad review but when you are spending that kind of money you are expecting something exceptional.
There was a snowstorm the night we went (a freak of nature for Seattle). A lot of people had cancelled their reservations and the restaurant was empty by the time we got there. The main server was not very helpful, did not listen to my questions (no, I did not ask what karaage was, but she assumed I had because she did not listen to my question, which was about an entirely different item), and seemed annoyed that we had honored our reservation. The helpers were much nicer and friendlier but weren't allowed to answer our questions. I specifically asked our server NOT to put shiso leaf on anything even for decoration. The sashimi platter had it on there, touching the raw fish. The portions were small and obviously expensive. The quality of the fish was very good, but not the best I've ever had. The miso soup that came with the platter was unique and good. There were several items on the menu that were standard Japanese fare, such as the karaage, which I wouldn't expect in a top notch Japanese restaurant.
Personable, approachable, and absolutely delicious. Would recommend to friends.
Very friendly service and good food.
The Staff was outstanding. The food was delicious. The drink pairings were spot-on. Our waiter convinced me to expand my food and drink palette; he was not wrong! We were in food nirvana. Thank you! I got a thumbs up for the birthday dinner.
The waiter was incompetent and the fish was not fresh. I tried to ask if certain sushi (scallop) was in season and the waiter’s response (passive aggressively) was that all their fish comes from Japan. (: Albacore appetizer was very fishy, nigiri was also fishy and tasted pretty poor. Rolls were good when covered up with spice but way overpriced. Waiter also forgot drinks and overall very mediocre dining experience for the price tag. We will not be returning as there are many better sushi options in Seattle.
Simply amazing food, wonderful service, and excellent wine. They go out of their way to create a warm and friendly atmosphere, and go above and beyond to make sure your experience is fantastic.
Best sushi in Seattle hands down! Even better that Taichi follows a sustainable sushi practice
Amazing service and food. Had heard great things about this place and was excited that it lived up to the hype.
I have been coming to this restaurant for a few years now and they never disappoint. The friendly an knowledgeable staff are a big part of what keeps me coming back. That, and of course the amazing sushi! You have to try their Hamtastic roll. It's simply the best!
Hands down BEST sushi in Seattle. Never disappoints
Always a favorite. Food quality is outstanding if a touch pricy for the sashimi portions. Our waiter was great.
The Omasake Chef tasting is amazing! Different than other Japanese places, fresh, seasonal unbelievable taste experience, great presentation and the 7 course meal will leave you full, satisfy and happy. The Sake pairings are worth it.
It’s definitely a place we’ll be back and often.
Thank you to the staff
Lacy rocks. Very knowledgeable about the sake and seafood! Will be back again
Delicious, authentic Japanese food experience that includes a great sushi selection and a lovely sushi bar. However, I go there for the tempura, as they do it so well — they are always fresh, flakey and absolutely fried to perfection.
Excellent food and great suggestions from our server
Wonderful service and excellent food! Thank you!
Sushi Kappo Tamura is consistently awesome. Love coming here for birthdays and other special occasions. The food is exquisite and superb, and the service folks very knowledgeable and helpful. Hooray for Sushi Kappo Tamura!
