What Insiders Are Saying
Does eating at Sunda feel like eating in the club? Yes, but you don't have to love the ChampagnePapi lifestyle to love this restaurant.
Our server was fantastic. Gave helpful suggestions and was on top of it all! Food was delicious!
Excellent service !!!
And food !!!
Family gathering for Father ‘s Day . It was my Michigan daughter ‘s first time st Sunda. She understood why I recommend Sunda to visiting friends.
The food was delicious! It was a little loud in the restaurant, I took my parents for father's day so we had to keep repeating ourselves. But it was well worth it as the food was fabulous.
Truly disappointed in my dinning experience here. I ordered the Chicken Scramble off the Gluten Free menu. I took one bite and sent back the meal - but Sunda never offered another option and still charged me for the uneaten meal. I was also extremely disappointed that even after multiple requests the Bloody Mary bar wasn’t replenished.
Server named Daniel is awesome.
I love their Ube Bites and Adobo Fried Rice.
Lovely spot, but very cramped seats next to others. Plates are shareable and shockingly small for their cost. Service was nice, but not super attentive, which may be a given since it was a Saturday evening.
Completely disappointed. Small portions with tiny pieces of meat in the shrimp and chicken dishes. It’s barely enough to share with a group of 5. Overpriced Asian food is what I can describe this place.
Best food best service best decor
Really, really delicious food. But it was very VERY noisy in there. Difficult to carry a conversation. Fun, energetic space just don’t expect to hear anyone that isn’t right next to you!
2nd time to this restaurant and the food was delish! Tried a variety of dishes and each one did not disappoint. I will be back!
Excellent food and service but the insane noise level really is hard to get by. Enough to not go back which is a shame. Top noise level rating being called "energetic" is a joke. How about "I hope you know sign language" instead.
Food was great! Our server was eager and willing to provide recommendations and the small plates and sushi came out at appropriate intervals. The restaurant was packed, it was difficult to move between tables and it was very loud. That was the only downside to dining here for a client dinner.
The food was absolutely DELICIOUS! Sunda is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago, hand down!
I ate here with my fiance about 5 years ago and, except for the noise level, we LOVED it! The food is outstanding! And this time, with clients, it did NOT disappoint. Once again, amazing and seemed to be a little quieter with a lunch croud.
Always recommend Sunda. That is all I have to say.
Our party of 3 went for Sunday brunch and had a fantastic server, Daniel. He provided great recommendations with excellent descriptions and shared ways to best enjoy our food. He really cared about the food and our enjoyment. Loved the Bloody Mary bar! Sunda also had great music, not intrusive, perfect!
Great!! Loved the food.
What a treat Sunda turned out to be. The room was big and open and well designed. Joe, our waiter, was helpful and so accommodating with all of our questions and needs. Each dish we ordered was outstanding. The menu was varied and seems to have something for everyone's taste.
I will definitely return to Sunda whenever I am in Chicago. It is a don't miss kind of place.
In from out of town and tried Sunda based on a friend’s recommendation. Possibly the best meal I have had in my life.
Went as a group of four and tried a lot of the menu. There was not a single item that we did not like. Everything was amazing.
Can’t wait to be back in Chicago to get back to Sunda. I want to try the rest of the menu!
Looooove this place. Food is phenomenal. Service is great. Everything we’ve tried has been amazing; the flavor profiles, the depth of flavor, the plating; everything is exquisite. Definitely recommend the spicy edamame, pork belly app, Chilean sea bass, tale of two tunas — and really everything on the menu. You can’t go wrong!
The food was great, especially the foie gras Nigiri. We had a special work anniversary and expected something to be brought to the table - were disappointed it was not acknowledged
Very good work by the Event Organizers - Jamie and Karen.
Great food. But be mindful that the portions are huge and when they say "meant for sharing" they mean it.
Interesting and BIG menu of various Asian cuisines, which will be familiar to those who remember Stephen Starr's Buddakan of the early 90s -- a mix of Japanese (sushi), Chinese, Thai, etc. with varying degrees of success. High marks for the black cod, Red Dragon sushi and the pork adobo fried rice, which was recommended by our very talented and knowledgeable server. We loved it. Missed the mark on the pad thai, which was overly sauced and the Szechuan chicken which was dry and tough to eat with chopsticks given the large unwieldy pieces. Come prepared to shout in order to be heard by your tablemates over the deafening din. Very busy with tables crowding the narrow aisles.
Everything was wonderful
Average service and average food. I know people rave about Sunda. It has ambience, no doubt, and you can often catch celebrities there but I'd recommend skipping this place unless your really into paying high prices and for very average sushi, dim sum or Filipino food. Lots of better options in the city. River North is very overrated.
4th time to Sunda and love it more and more each time! The lobster and wagyu beef roll is by far the best item on the menu!
The food was ok, the main entree was kind of small compared to the appetizers. The wait helper (Micheal) was decent but our waitress was very busy talking and doing other things besides being a waitress. The drinks were just ok. There needs some work to be done.
Will be back and highly recommend!
Bit over priced however sushi was very good. Probably would not return
What a fantastic meal... with everything served family style, there is such a nice opportunity for everyone to share the experience. The food was absolutely stellar. The lemongrass beef lollipops were incredibly flavorful and tender, while the tuna truffle pizza is simply not to be missed. Great wine list and excellent cocktails. The server was extremely knowledgeable and helped us navigate the more unfamiliar offerings. Excellent experience, we will definitely be back.
First time here and it was a good experience! The oxtail potstickers were delicious, could've eaten a whole meal just of those. I would come back here again, though next time with someone to share with so we could try more things.
Food was tasty and service was good, but the drinks were too light on alcohol and quite expensive. I didn’t taste the alcohol in those drinks.
Sushi rolls were very good, however, not cut to size for eating. Nigiri yellowtail very good also. Chicken pad Thai and oxtail potstickers were very good also. Efficient service.
Food is always fantastic!!
Favourite restaurant in Chicago!
Great food and place. The only issue was that we were limited to order more food as we reserved the last sitting time for lunch (2:30)
Great food. Creative menu. Fun atmosphere. Great location.
