   Found a very sharp and long bone in my sushi roll. Could have been very dangerous. A lot of the food was also totally overpowered by way too much torching/smoking. The prices are way too high for the quality of food and ambience. Staff were very professional and handled the situation well but it was a big disappointment. The staff are the only thing I would give 5 stars too.

   Overall a bad experience. The restaurant was so disorganized throughout the whole evening. So many patrons arriving at once without proper order in seating couples. Incredibly loud in the restaurant, zero sound proofing, couldn't even hear the music because patrons were so loud. Hard chairs, poor lighting (bright lights shining in our faces). Food was delicious but way over priced for the amount of food served. Server was kind but forgot so many things. Will definitely never return (mainly due to cost and bad ambiance) and will not recommend to friends.

   I don't mind paying for good quality food but this was very expensive and the sushi wasn't that good for the price. The only saving grace was that the wait staff knew the Saki menu well and made a great recommendation.

   Soto is a neighborhood gem with creative cuisine, great wine and sake list and the freshest sushi! Love their happy hour menu. Always a pleasure to see the sushi chefs. Enjoyed meeting Evan, our server and Frank who gave incredible descriptions of the dishes we ordered. Highly recommend Soto - South Lamar!

   Soto is a delightful Japanese restaurant and is convenient to Alamo Drafthouse on S. Lamar, so perfect for date night or getting together with friends before a movie. The food is great and the happy hour menu makes it more affordable. The service has always been fantastic every time I go. Highly recommend.

    My girlfriend and I had an incredible experience at Soto. Our server was super friendly and had great recommendations. While the Flaming Salmon gets all the attention on OT, the best dish of the night was the Wagyu Surf & Turf - easily our favorite roll in Austin. Highly recommend dining during happy hour as the prices were quite reasonable given the high quality of the sushi. Will be visiting again, hopefully very soon!

    We waited and waited for our food, and eventually asked to just cancel whatever hadn’t come out yet. 30 minutes in between nigiri bites is not a good dining experience. Place is also nonsensically expensive. Drinks 30+, and the sushi as well. No problem paying for sushi, but when they barely give you any fish it’s very frustrating. Would have had to spend 500 bucks to get remotely satisfied. Only one bite was exceptionally good, the rest mediocre. Strip mall quality sushi for NYC prices. No thank you.

    Just mediocre. Outdoor dining was very forgotten about, dirty and windy. Menus blew away all night long. Food was fine but unmemorable. Descriptions didn't make much sense

    Great lunch. Everything we ordered was very fresh, very flavorful and very much appreciated. We followed the recommendations of our server and just about everything that was recommended was great. The last item we had was a roll and it ranked last on the long list of items we had. Do not get me wrong, it was good, but it could not compete with everything else we had. Next time, and there will be a next time, we will get the roll first and finish off the culinary adventure with the some of the more delicate and nuanced items.

    Their lunch special, Chirashi, is not a typical Chirashi from other Japanese restaurant. The fish are chopped, and some are even cooked. Very disappointed. Try different menu.

    Despite enjoying the food and our server being attentive, we won’t be going back to Soto due to our experience towards the end of our time there. We had 7pm dinner reservations with another couple. We were very excited to have an adults-only dinner date and enjoy our meal, beverages and conversation without the interruption of work and children. However, less than 2 hours into our time there (and a hefty food and beverage bill later), we were interrupted and told we needed to leave because our table was needed. We were then repeatedly interrupted by the same person, demanding us to leave so they could accommodate another party. An expectation for customers to come in and wolf down their food and drinks is ridiculous! There is no shortage of great restaurants in Austin that will allow their customers to actually enjoy their food and date night experience. I’d recommend focusing your time and money on those restaurants and skip Soto.

    Was our first time at Soto and we were really happy with the food and the service. We ordered 3 sushi rolls, all of them amazing. For sure will return to Soto next time in Austin.

    The restaurant is listed as a sushi establishment. But if you look at the menu, there are only 4 rolls with only 2 rolls containing fish. They do have fish nigiri and sashimi style. The rest of the menu contains eclectic items like edible flowers. I asked for a roll with mainly fish and they said they could make the traditional rainbow roll but they really prefer to make their own rolls. You just don’t have any semblance of sushi being offered. The drinks are equally minimal, great presentation but the actual product misses the mark.

    One of the best dining experiences we've had. Food was incredible, but it was only one part, the service was absolutely impeccable. We went with Omakase menu and everyone who stopped by our table to being new dishes was so excited and knowledgeable about the ingredients, preparation, origin, what makes it special, how chef feels about it that it really made us more excited to try. This is the place you want to come back to many times and try new dishes as well as your favorites. I can see this becoming one of our regular restaurants to visit. Thank you!

    Drinks were incredibly overpriced. Food was ok. Way better sushi for the price in Austin. Kind of unimpressed. They use a lot of truffle which seems to overpower the fish.A $35 cocktail is kind of shameful. This is Austin not New York. Plus I know liquor cost and it was weird.

    We are regulars and usually give Soto 4.5 stars. Our last visit wasn’t the normal experience. We often order the same thing and we were surprised when some items weren’t prepared as well. We sent 2 items back because the preparation was subpar. Oysters were so spicy we couldn’t eat more than 1, tuna tacos fell apart before first bite etc. Bill was $200 for 2, and we both left hungry

    Went for wife's birthday and she really like it they have fresh (real) wasabi. I am vegetarian and they have a menu for that and that was just as good. Will come back again for sure!

    It's alright - the presentation of everything they serve is awesome, but once you bite into it it's just so-so. I had a few pieces of sashimi that came with pain-inducing amounts of wasabi on it. The sushis good, just not what I'd expect for the price.

    I had heard such good things about Soto, so my friend and I decided to check it out. The decor is very minimalist but it was a Thursday night and the place was packed. Our server Christine came over and guided us through the menu because it all sounded good, and I asked her about gluten free options. To my surprise, virtually everything on the menu was gluten free or could be made gluten free. We ordered some appetizers, and I personally loved the tempura crab. We also had the chu-toradito which Christine said was her favorite dish on the menu, and it was very tasty. We then each ordered 1 sushi roll, I got the wagyu land and sea roll and my friend got the torched toro truffle. Both were awesome. Then we ended with nigiri and they had a special on Hirame, which was olive flounder. That bite of nigiri packed so much flavor and it was the perfect way to end. Soto really blew me away with the amazing food, friendly and attentive service and great prices. This is now one of my favorite Austin restaurants.

    The Chinese ceramic soup spoon was little too large for the fancy little bowl Soto uses to serve a cup of miso soup.  Nothing special about the $5 miso other than a few tiny mushrooms.  I requested the house salad with the sesame dressing, the server emphasized Soto prepares dressing on the side.  Salad waited for about 20 minutes to arrive.  I like how the dressing has less oil. The fatty Hamachi they sold to me for being seared with smoke favors has absolutely no taste.  The trout was not fresh can tell by the mushy texture.  What's worse is this scallions mixed with soy sauce poured over the trout.  They both come in thin slices no bigger than Nigiri and somewhat odd holding up on a pair of chopsticks.  The raw oysters came at the end.  They were very fresh, but it's not my taste that the other 3 were dashed with fish sauce. I felt like I just ate Chinese food than sushi.  Overall service is excellent!  Bravo to all the servers.
