Seated 20 minutes late for our reservation. Reception desk seemed very chaotic and confused. The two things that we wanted for appetizers were already sold out. We were seated right next to the kitchen where it was extremely hot from the heat lamps. Took a very very long time for server to show up and then got very little attention during the course of our meal. Food was ok but not worth the price. On the plus side, the design of the space is awesome.
We had brunch on Sunday. Service was great, place was nice. The food was average. We ordered the Benedict, baked egg, omelet and Gold Coast breakfast. The pastries were good and the gooey butter cake was delicious. The cappuccinos were really good too.
Great service, great food!
Sarah was absolutely incredible. The staff as a whole really had it together and uncoincidentally, you could tell their floor manager was on point. The Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict were to die for and the Corned Beef Has was sublime. Overall, a great experience and a great dining venue.
Very very crowded when we arrived and two people in our party were late. The hostesses were very nice about waiting.
I had lunch with a couple of women friends who had not met for a while. I chose Somerset as the venue because I remembered its ambiance, good food and moderate noise level. We had a great time catching up and could talk and be heard easily, an important factor for me in choosing restaurants. One had a pasta, one a sandwich and I had the fish entree. We all were pleased with our choices. Our waitress was particularly accommodating. I'll be back.
Somerset is the best place to take someone for a birthday! They make personalized menus that say "Happy Birthday [Name]" for whoever's birthday it is, and they called me before my reservation to ask about my friends' name, any dietary restrictions, etc. and brought out a dessert without me having to ask. Beautiful inside, delicious food.
I strongly dislike that I "Must," rate everything. The judgements for noise is all wrong. the top rating should mean much too noisy not lively vibe. That said the restaurant was too noisy for my taste. One of our party was in a wheel chair an the staff were wonderful trying to find us a comfortable table and helping get us get there and all they could for the chair to chair transfer. Very much appreciate their care. The Cod fritters and the dipping sun were delicious- not at all greasy , tasty and yummy. The black pasta with sea food was also wonderful, the pasta maintaining integrity of texture and taste and the seafood adding The chicken ,I have had chefs chicken at the peninsula and at Boka was not as wonderful as I hoped- still very good. Almost no polenta, not enough taste of sausage for me as the sausage was lost in the skin.
We enjoyed our meal an wil return
One of us wanted to order a hamburger but realized that the two parties meant w medium done hamburger with no hopes of rare burger. We all dislike the thought of overcooked hangers and are curious as to why you think this is the way to go- 2 patties, cooked way beyond rare.
Excellent! Thank you for a memorable time !
Great spot and ambiance
Great atmosphere great vibe. Great service. At best food is ok. I live nearby and this place is plummeting in food value and escalating as a post college hangout. After a number of visits spending lots of cash I will be hard pressed to return. I went to brunch Saturday and the food was meh. Better food and value is fond so many other places.
The service was exceptional. There were 3 of us and the one order of Salmon was delicious! The other 2 of us split the Kale/Brussel sprout salad to start, which was mediocre, nothing special. Then we had ordered a pasta dish with duck, which they had apparently just added to the menu - the flavor was very good, however the portion was the size of a small plate. They were extremely nice about it and planned on talking with the chef. Great that they have a wine expert to help pick out your wine!
I'm a cook and this is my "go to" spot when I have a day off. I'm a big fan of pretty much everything I've ever eaten here (and I've had the bulk of all their menus). Yum.
It was fantastic. One of my favorite restaurants ever
I am running out of different adjectives to use to describe how much I enjoy this establishment. The ambiance is current without being distracting, the staff are uber-professional and helpful, the food and beverages are outstanding. Brought an out of town friend who was similarly impressed. We got a great table to boot. Cannot wait to return!
Salty food, rude staff. Not professional. I’m a local, will never eat there again.
Always great food.
This is a great date or special occasion spot. The ambiance is beautiful and so fun. My scallops were delicious and so was my cocktail. Highly recommend.
Somerset went above and beyond for our dinner on Saturday. We were celebrating an engagement and not only did the restaurant give us an incredible table with a semi-private feel (I did not ask for this) but they also printed the engaged couple's names on the menus and brought a special (free) dessert. I was simply blown away by the service. Above and beyond expectations! Would HIGHLY recommend!
Delicious food, great service, and the decor is absolutely lovely and a fun conversation piece.
Some of the best dishes I’ve eaten in Chicago! Go with a group and order many plates to share. It’s absolutely delicious!
Excellent experience at Somerset. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Our appetizer (creamy Kale dip was plentiful and satisfying. Our entrees were just the right amount, and the flavor combinations were outstanding. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Somerset.
Classic conventioneer and tourist trap. Waiter rushed us even after stating several times to hold off. Food was just not special and pasta dish was very oily. At $200 for two people very over priced. This was third time here and won’t be back.
Extremely slow service. May not have enough staff on Mondays
The wait staff was very attentive and patient while I waited for a friend- perfect place for catching up and enjoying great food
Eggs were dry and tasteless. Servers were discombobulated and didn’t communicate well with each other. Someone would take a drink order and 5 minutes someone else would do the same. Disappointing experience.
Fantastic service by the staff. Excellent selections for brunch and the best Pain au Chocolat that I have had outside France. There was an energetic buzz in the restaurant that made if feel that you were part of something without inhibiting the ability to converse.
Tasty food, large portions, good ambiance
Went to celebrate our anniversary. Waitstaff was attentive but not intrusive. We received complimentary champagne and printed menus wishing us a happy anniversary. Dinner was delicious and the portions hearty. The pastry chef at this restaurant is amazing! The lemon tart and chocolate budino are beyond description. Definitely going back.
Great experience all around!!
The Cheese and Ham omelet was meh, something I could've made better at home. However, my mom got the chicken and French Toast and boy do they know how to fry their chicken! Super yum, ended up just sharing that plate with her since my omelet was gross - it had those chopped cubed pieces of ham in them that you could buy pre-cut in a plastic bag at the grocery store...
Running out of new ways to say how much I love this place. Brunch especially wonderful -- great variety of options, all served with helpful, just the right amount of attention staff. My go to place, without a doubt.
This is a great brunch and lunch spot (I have not tried dinner, but imagine it is equally good).
Great food , great staff very pleasant experience for a family or social event
When making the reservation with Open Table, I mentioned we would be celebrating my daughters birthday. Upon arrival, it was clear that the entire staff knew it was her birthday. They took the time to make our brunch special. Our food was outstanding, particularly the pastries. Great food, and a wonderful staff. We will definitely be back to Somerset.
By the time we were seated for Brunch, they were out of almost every pastry except the plain croissant. Given that one of their signature menu items is the pastry board, this really reflected badly on the restaurant and it's management.
10/10 experience. The drinks were fabulous, the Somm was knowledgable, and our service and food were both excellent. Will 100% be back.
We so enjoyed our dinner here. The waiter was spot on with his recommendation and the bartender as well. you can't go wrong with dinner at Sommerset!
The meal was just ok. We had the hangar steak and it I came out from the kitchen lukewarm. We sent it back and it was returned the same way. Service and ambiance was excellent.
